  1. A year or two ago Tony Mason did a report on a 2 wheel drive car trial that was also on a public "green lane" as he annouced. They thenn showed a Mk 1 Escort ripping the f%&* out of the lane. IIRC one car was clearly going nowhere but the driver just kept his foot down! To make matters worse the program was shown as part of the "Off Road" series.
  2. My brother is left handed and also was forced to write right handed. Worse, as his younger brother who is right handed I was forced to write left handed at school!!
  3. From web site. Please Note all Newbury Sortouts are cancelled for 2008 ..please join our mailing list for further information of NEW Venues and alternatives for 2008 Letters explaining should be with you soon Updated 03.02.08 Regards "The Sortout Team"
  4. Cheers Orange, Went to Aldi to day and bought the Drill and Grinder/belt sander, both items i have needed. Apart from the casting on the drill base being the worst I have ever seen the rest looks reasonable. How can they make it for £35? the materials alone cost more than the selling price. Marc
  5. Road signs are ally of varying thickness! No I don't suggest nicking them but I have seen them in Scrap? IIRC a mate made is racer out of some (not the whole thing but some of it)
  6. Hmmm, Filling up at the Gas Station with 4500 psi or 300 bar! That sounds safe
  7. When an uninsured toe rag hit me (slighly different) I took out a CCJ against him for the excess. Good Luck though what ever you try. Marc.
  8. Good stuff with calculations to show why it is bad news.
  9. Erm Unless I have missed something why not buy the vid series?? Or is there a fundemental difference between Disco and RRC as a base?
  10. Hi Michael, As I bellieve there is only one 4 speed manual box (LT95) then you aren't gonnna get it all out in one go. The Transfer Box and Gearbox are all in one and weigh a ton thats why they are strong. Assuming you have a 10 ton crane you will still need to counter the mass of the whole lot when you try to manouver it out of the engine bay. I had two to remove in one day, one from a donor rangie and one from the Hybred. I finally got the replacement back in at midnight with help. As I did not want to remove the body work I chose to rermove the gear stick and lower the unit onto the floor and slide it out from under the vehicle. This was a little tricky but worked, to do this I used a hydrallic engine hoist through the door. I am sure that some other views will come a long soon. Good luck. Marc.
  11. Police cars have automatic car checks but they would have stopped you.
  12. Happy christmas all. I bought a second hand one and found two possible problems, first the cone that goes over the exhuast did not fit very well and second the open shut valve was dried out and not flat anymore which made it leak. Apart from that it was great on soft ground where a Hi-Lift would sink.
  13. To be honest a Harley with replacement engine cases is a dead give away as well but he is Scottish
  14. I hope you get a good result following the inspection. The rulesmay haave changed but this is what happened to a freind. He bought a Q plate Lightweight Hybrid from a guy outside apub in Heathrow, then latter he followed this by buying a Q plate Harley chop. Some months laterthe police cam to see the Hybrid and anounced that it was stolen. Eventually the Police returned and announced that yes it was stolen but that they could not identify it so he could keep itbut couldd not sell it as this would constitute dealing in stolen property. A few more months later and Police Officers from a different force came to his house and announced that the Harley had come from shop that had just been cought ringing bikes and that they needed to check his bike. As the bike had S&S engine cases and a new headstock it was very likely that the bike was a ringer but again the police could not identifiy it. Agin he was toldthat he could keep it but could not sell it. I hope youare lucky if it does turn out to be stolen.
  15. Hi Meccano, Have you narrowed the axles? I am concidering that dumb idea! Added I may have asked this before? Oops
  16. Guessing here but I believe that the raised bit the wheel nuts locate in is to stop the nuts from undoing by adding a bit of spring and friction of the counter sink? I have often wondered if flat 8 spoke steel centers should be used with "Alloy" wheel nuts for this reason? I look to an adult to come and advise? Cheers.
  17. Hi Steve, I am concidering the same move. IIRC the standard way is to weld a strip of steel inside the front hoop to enable the windscreen rubber to locate the glass. Not that easy as it has to be waterproof and the curve is cut from a square peice of metal if you see what I mean? Then make a template for the flat glass and get it cut to shape to fit. If I am incorrect or there is a better way then I am sure someone will come along If this is how you go ahead I would like to know your experience? Cheers,
  18. As other answers except that the DVLA has been trying to get MOT testers to report such alterations. Although unlikely to notice, every MOT would be a lottery unless you know the tester
  19. Had a look last night at the RA Adventurer spec in Halfrauds, it has MM with 1:50,000 OS parks maps installed. Also looked at a MM website and only found parks maps. So a question about MM if I may? Can you get ordinary Landranger 1:25,000 maps for any reagion of the UK? By the way the price for the RA Adventurer is £250 which is where I thought it might be.
  20. Hi Dan, I am also looking for a Sat Nav solution and am interested in the Road Angel Adventurer as this has Memory Map plus road directions and cameras as a bonus. I have no idea on cost yet or how good it is but the advvert seems to suggest that it is hand usable as well as in car plus very water proof? If any one has information on this I certainly would be interested? PS Sorry not trying to nick the thread.
  21. Thing is they are not Fog lights , they are High Intensity Rear Lights. the give away is the name. They are intended to work exactly the opposite of Front Fog lights. One is to NOT show the Fog the other is to turn it into a HUGE RED light. As people call them Fog lights they turn them on as soon as they get into any Mist. IIRC the first UK car to get them was the Rover SD1, I came down the M1 in thick Fog and I knew there was and SD1 in front as the sky was totally RED the problem was that I did not know where the f&$&*&g road was! I've hated them ever since. As an aside, when driving in Mist/Fog how many cars do you see with the wipers on? None most of the poor visibilty is on the windscreen not Fog but no one wipes it off! Rant Over
  22. Out of interest did Moglite make in to any magazines or HFH’s motor? I’d be surprised if Moglite would be shown as it does not look like a L-R and therefore has no advertising ability for L-R stealers or bolt on bodger suppliers. As for HFH (gosh that looks like he’s from a special family!!) I guess his motor has it’s special bits (ooh err) too hidden for a magazine. I stopped buying when they were all about how a Police RR is different to any other, sorry a few lamps and radios don’t do it for me. When the challenge scene became marketable it looked like the articles might perk up but the fact is the only “extreme” item is how extremely standard the extreme landies are! Or how extremely expensive it would be to build a copy of a companies latest advertising vehicle!
  23. My two penneth. Definitely use a Temperature Controlled Iron Keep the tip clean – old solder will oxidise on the tip Wipe the tip on damp cloth, flicking the iron is not a good idea! Only use multi core solder Even when at work we ditched the low temp solder as it was carp and (illegally?) used lead solder (this was awhile ago). Don’t leave the heat on too long or you will loose the copper pad from the PCB or destroy the component. Power Transistors will need a heat sink and heat conductive compound and insulators once installed. Even after bending the component legs out to hold them in place some still fall out so I don’t place too many at one time but fit some and solder then fit some more. Personally I use a good solder sucker Even after removing the solder some will/may still stay inside the component hole as surface tension will keep it between the component leg and the plated hole. To remove the item you will need to break the solder by GENTLY rocking the leg back and forth or round in a circle. If you are not sure of soldering chips into the PCB then buy chip holders and solder them in first (if you have the space). Chips do not like static electricity you must ground yourself before touching a chip or a PCB with a chip on it. It won’t stop working straight away but it does seriously reduce it’s life expectancy (Military grade chips have each leg protected better than commercial chips or so I was told at work). Take your time like most things rushing is a bad idea. Hope this was useful and not just me spouting off? Good luck with the build and I for one would be interested in how it goes when you get to the final project as I hope to build my own Megasquirt in the future.
