  1. sticks Yes; a 3/4 hood will too, but full length is different (cos of windscreen shape)
  2. Twice had similar things - both times it was the loom inside the chassis rail. I 'bypassed' the offending section. Starting at the multiplug in the engine bay, identify the naughty wire then run a new one to the rear via the vehicle interior... Worked for me
  3. Back on topic... Ever tried to get to the cluch m/c on a LHD 90/110/defender? Between the brake m/c and the wing there's just enough space not get any access without stamping on a kitten in frustration
  4. It costs (a compulsory) 141.5 euro for the tow if you break down on a motorway in France...just saying
  5. Hi Mike, These should do the business for the front bearings: TIMKEN LM 603011 cup with TIMKEN LM 603049 cone, or use SKF LM 603011/Q cup with SKF LM603049/Q cone. Somebody more knowledgeable will tell you if the rears are identical (I think so...). Can't help for the seals, but a caliper and a decent agri/motor vehicle outlet should be able to match them for ya. Good luck
  6. Hi, I'm only in france, so not far. In my experience, the dealers/suppliers are all usually relatively straight up - so long as you check availability properly, just coz it's on the website don't mean that they have/can get it. Where everything can go tits up is the courier. If you're in a major urban area you stand a reasonable chance with dhl/fedex etc etc., but away from a decent size town it's a 100% lottery, coz everything gets handed eventually to a self-employed guy in a van with a phone - try tracking that! I'd say that you should ask locally which network seems to work, and try to get yr UK supplier to use that one - or sort it yrself via one of the broker services on the net... EDIT: I THINK SIMON IS RIGHT BOUT AGENTS... but I dunno if that'd work for smaller/ one-off consignments
  7. Hi Neill, I've got a 110 with a roofrack and 1/2 the time it codes as 2. So long as you use a booth with an operator in it, I've never had a problem in getting it changed to the car rate.. bonne chance
  8. Hi Ian I've just looked at 2 different genuine voltage guages for you, on both 1 is -ve and 2 is +ve... Giles
  9. (almost the first time I've dared to answer anything on here - you're all too clever 4me) Nige - my lucky winner would be citroen CX diesel (if you can find one over there). Twin leccy fans on the outside, in fact the entire rad unit is a perfect fit for a defender... Giles
  10. Hi Rusty, I guess you have a sneaking suspicion that technically it's a non-starter. However, you can get away with it (I registered a transit-engined 110 in France) by answering the questions on the form "inventively"; the process all occurs by post. I think however that your real problem would be the petrol to diesel swap, which even the most inept inspector is unlikely to nod through when it comes to controle technique (MOT) time. Then there's the insurance ... ... you just can't mod anything here and then get it insured, unless you want to do a French SVA (called RTI here). Not recommended unless your rich and retired... HTH
  11. Hi Marc, Like da guys say, landmania is the place for info... Last time I did this, you needed a 'quitus fiscale' from the local tax office (it's free, and certifies that the tax you don't owe has not been paid, if you see what I mean); an 'attestation de conformité' from LR France (whose number was 01 61 01 62 61; they will want a copy of the V5 + a few other pieces of simple info + a cheque for €125); a valid 'controle technique' (like expat69 says, no worries there if not modified, 'cept you may have to change yr headlights). Once you've got all those bits of paper together, a trip to the guichet at the local prefecture (where you need to fill out another form) should be enough to get you a new French reg, opening the path to parking tickets, speeding fines etc etc... Bonne chance Giles
  12. Inside the chassis rail where the loom runs to the rear... that's what happened to me. You can bypass at the multiplug at the bulkhead and then run a wire thru the interior to the rear flappy thing that covers the wiring behind the lights... Bodge on Giles
  13. Yea, trailers caravans and motorhomes are all a pain to register over here unless the French have already OK'ed them. Modern cars and commercials are easy, it's the more low-volume end of things that gets tricky. Not all Ifor's can be registered here - you'd have to check the model (and serial) number with Ifor France. Bonne chance
  14. Hi, I've long lurked but never posted - thought that I should say hello and thanks for the tips I've picked up here (Les H I'm talking bout you). I live in France and own a suspiciously rusty 110 200tdi. Anybody near toulouse got a chassis? Only kidding... Right, I'm off now. Bye Gilles
  15. Hi, These guys - Landypoint (+33) 05 45 62 27 20 Fax 05 45 23 66 96 - are not too far from Bordeaux, totally know thier stuff and Annette (who's Dutch) speaks excellent English. If you do get in poo, they'd be a great way of bridging any potential language barriers... What could posibly make you think you'll need help???? Gilles Merde! Just seen that's I'm a life-long lurker who's never dared post here before - I'll go and say 'Hi' upstairs now.
