  1. Looking good. Just a thought on the fit of the sliding arrangement, a bit of slack may be required if the two parts expand at different rates. As one is fixed to the door skin and the other possibly in direct sunlight the two may differ. I would think the outer piece would expand more so I would expect you would be OK, but it may be prudent not to fix it permanently to your door skin until you have had a years worth of testing so you know how it reacts in different conditions. Enjoying the thread! M
  2. Is it possible to remove the steel frame from the bonnet without damaging the frame or the bonnet skin? I have a bonnet that would also benefit from this treatment, and at the same time I could give the frame a bit of love and attention regarding corrosion!!! If you know of any threads or videos showing how to do this it would be appreciated. Many thanks. Mick
  3. I did borrow one a few years back and enjoyed using it. I found PLA and abs quite easy to use but they were not quite strong enough for what I needed at the time. I tried some nylon but I couldn't get the results I needed - lots of warping and stringing. I was using a Prusa mk2s and it seemed to print well but thought it would have benefited from an enclosure and a dehumidifier for the nylon - but it was only borrowed so I couldn't go to that expense. I do fancy the latest version the Prusa (I think it is the mk3s+) and hope to get one early in the new year, so if you have any items you would recommend then please share. I think 3D printers are great but if you something stronger then laser sintered nylon is good, but expensive for single items - great however if you want multiples. If you print other items for the truck, please post them on the forum as it would be good to see what people use them for.
  4. That looks really smart. It looks as good as a factory made piece. Will it be tough and resistant to knocks etc? I am looking at a 3D printer and wondered what else people have used them for regarding land rover bits. Keep us posted with this project as it will be good to see it fitted. M
  5. How do emissions compare between SVO and diesel? Is this going to be an alternative as they start to put more tax on diesel. I have not heard of pumps tuned to suit SVO. It would be interesting to know if a pump could be fitted with a heater element, though I am probably showing my total lack of understanding of diesel injection pumps!! I don't do enough miles to warrant an SVO system, but if it allowed me to use the truck when diesel would be way to expensive or difficult to get hold of in the future, then perhaps it's an option.
  6. Well done and a virtual pat on the back for your persistence. I hope the engine gives you many years of trouble free service.
  7. I don't know if you are anywhere near a "Home bargains", but currently they have in some gloves in their gardening section that are pretty tough. They have fiberglass in the front coating and are cut and abrasion resistant. I found these to be great for any rough work. They are not waterproof/oil resistant so not good for oil soaked jobs, but good for a lot of tough jobs where you don't want thick leather gloves. They only have large and extra large in the stores near me and they are £2/pair. Being home bargains they could be here one minute and gone the next.
  8. Oh wow, that is awful. I hope you don't have any further bad luck.
  9. Photos would be good. I am sure I will be in the same predicament shortly. Are all the main sections the same size?
  10. Firstly I hope you are ok. Secondly a huge thanks for posting this up here. It's great that you are willing to help others by sharing your experience. I look forward to you reporting your fantastic running engine shortly.
  11. Wow, that is some amount of work gone into that - well done. Why did you have to go so deep? I don't have a clue with building or building regs, but that seems to be a long way down just to build up.
