  1. I have 31 x 10.5 x 15" KL71's on my daily driver Disco and am very impressed with them also. Both on and off road. Grip well in the wet or dry on road and great in mud or on rocks when green laning. Seem to be wearing reasonably although I don't have specific milage versus wear figures. Pete.
  2. Good progress there, Mark. I still haven't even started measuring up for mine. Pete
  3. Basically what I found was that with the washers fitted correctly and using the correct rubbers when I tightened the lower nut on the front shocks the end of the pin that the nut goes on was hard up against the axle tube (I discovered this because I couldn't get my ring spanner off the end of the shock with it done up. To fix this I trimmed the lower pin down by about 5mm (effectively I cut the smal flats on the end of the pin off) this allowed enough clearance between the pin and axle tube. I still had to use an open ended spanner to do the nut up but the pin did not hit the axle. I would suggest running the nut up the thread with the shock off the vehicle to clean out any paint in the threads and then applying copper slip to the threads before tightening it down on the vehicle to make it easier to fully tighten it fully up as the bit you cut off is there for useing a spanner to hold the shock still to allow tightening the nut up which will mean that you have to hold the shock still by hand through the spring. HTH Pete.
  4. I would also check the conditon of all the rubber intercooler hoses to make sure that non have delaminated and are restricting the amount of air getting to the engine. Pete.
  5. Python, In addition to the brake lines and the rear arms I will add possibly castor corrected hockey sticks and a double cardan front prop. although you may not need them if it isn't a daily driver or the steering doesn't get to vague. Pete Orgasmic Farmer, I also had to trim my front procomps as they hit the axle tube. Pete
  6. I am running gwyn lewis challenge shock mounts with rough country +5" shocks and a 2" lift so not standard travel. best pictures I have are these. There is still a bit of travel to go at this point. I also get a little noise from going over speed bumps but I think it is being caused on mine by the main springs sitting at a bit of an angle, because of the length of the rear radius arms in combination with the lift. HTH Pete.
  7. Yes I have them on the rear of my Disco. Pete
  8. Just a thought but are the contacts on the bottom of the various bulbs all the same shape? I only ask because if one bulb has smaller/larger contacts than the others it might not be connecting correctly. HTH Pete.
  9. I managed to get a few pictures of my home brew toughbook mount tonight. Tough book in place Close up The mount minus the laptop The swivel allows for the Toughbook to be positioned easily for the passenger or driver. Large white bit is an amplified set of speakers to allow the voice navigation from navigator 7 to be heard. Basically I found a suitable bit of ally sheet at work to make the mount and use Velcro to hold the Toughbook to it. The original idea was for the mount to be easily removable however I found that it was a little unstable when on the move and have had to add brace to stabilise it a bit. Hopefully over the next few months I will be able to make the brace quick release so that the mount comes out easily. I suspect that if it was a manual the mount might be a bit intrusive when it comes to changing gear but cos it's an auto I don't really notice it. Pete.
  10. The only reason I can think of for using them would be if you fit lowered shock mounts (to gain down travel on the axle) as on the upward travel I guess it would be possible to bottom out the shock before hitting the standard bumpstops. I can't think of a reason for using them if all you fit is a lift as the upward limit would not be altered. I think that makes sense but I'm not totally sure. Pete
  11. Looks like a nice install. As an alternative mount for the screen I used this LCD tv wall mount from Vivo. I have a Tough book mounted on mine and had to a brace to stop it wobbling, but I have not mounted it on a vertical surface (it's on the side of the transmission tunnel in my Disco). It's nicely made from cast ally and the head rotates through 360 degrees which allows the screen to be postioned for either the driver or passenger. I'll post some pics when I have taken them. Pete.
  12. Maybe to late but whilst you have the pump off I would suggest changing the P gasket that is on the housing the water pump bolts to as they have a habit of leaking. Mine started to leak just after I replaced the pump. Helpful thread from Les about P gaskets. Pete.
  13. As Bogmonster says, you have to change the injection pump to a mechanical one from a non EDC discovery or defender. This is what I have done with mine. I changed mine at the same time as doing the cambelt and it took me most of a saturday to do. The mechanical pump will give you a slight loss in power, but as it is mechanical it is easy to 'tweek' to give better performance. I have to say that I don't think loseing the EDC hurt the economy on mine, well not as much as fitting 31" M/t's did , but mine had a few intermittant issues with the EDC system so I can't say for sure that it was giving it's best when it was EDC. Pete.
  14. I think EDC was fitted from 96 MY onwards. Mine when it was EDC with standard size A/T tyres did about 35mpg on long but gentle motorway runs, Now as a ,non-EDC but slightly tweeked and with 31 inch M/T tyres does about 30 on the same run. Pete.
  15. Actually in tools and fab not tech. clicky Pete.
  16. I would agree with Broonie. New Flexi's should sort it. Pete.
  17. Nope, Mine runs a lot cleaner since I did it. You will need a new intercooler to inlet manifold pipe if you remove the EGR but I think you can get a standard one from a dealer for about £8. Is the engine EDC? (ie no throttle cable, don't be fooled by the kickdown cable that goes to the injection pump, it will have an airflow meter.) Mines a 1996 300TDi Auto and I know a bit about it if you get stuck. Pete.
  18. Mark, Does it have an EGR valve. If it does it has probably stuck open allowing exhaust gases to feed into the inlet manifold all the time. Is the sludge like marmite? Is so clean it out with degreaser, and the intercooler and blank off/ remove the EGR. There is a thread by Les about this on here somewhere. Pete. editted to add Found the thread by Les clicky. Pete.
  19. Don't know if this helps but when the spring on mine broke I had to hold the key in the un-locked position to open the door. Pete
  20. I run the challenge kit on my Disco daily driver (with Rough Country shocks) and find it fine. I actually prefer the softer ride and don't find the handling to be compromised. Works very well. I got mine from LLama 4x4. Still had a fair bit of travel to go. . Pete.
  21. I also have a 300TDi Auto. Mine was EDC went well and returned reasonable fuel economy however, The EDC started to play up and I could not be bothered with plugging it into a computer to find out what was wrong so I replaced all the electronics with a mechanical pump and proper throttle cable. I have tweeked the pump a little but it goes just as well if not better, returns the same sort of economy and does not have any electronics to go wrong on the engine. I think the power difference is 11 hp the non EDC as standard being 111BHP and the EDC ones being 122BHP when new. I would certainly have another one. Pete.
  22. I second what Fridge says get an X-fan switch £39.99 with out the forum discount (you get this by following the link in SimonR on here signiture) HTH Pete.
  23. The rear arms will give the chassis bushes an easier time so they should last longer. With the fronts I would say drive it and see how it handles (might have vague feeling /lack of self centreing) and then if it does get either the castor corrected arms or a cheaper alternative (especially for a mostly road going vehicle) could be castor correction bushes from the likes of Old Man Emu as they are a fair bit cheaper, If it drives fine I wouldn't bother. However you may find that correcting the castor causes a vibration from the front prop. this can be solved by fitting a double cardon front prop. HTH Pete.
  24. Nice show, was good to say hello to Chris and Simon at X-eng before they got too busy. I came away with a couple of bargains but I only collected them at the show as I had done the deals elsewhere. Have to say I am very impressed by the service (Superpro bushes) from Anton at OEC and was nice to meet him. Was also good to meet Adrian (Orange) and Mark as I have both bought/sold stuff to/from them both. Mark if I change my mind about the bumper I'll let you know . Pete.
  25. I think (and I stand to be corrected) you just need to make sure that none of the gaps line up. Setting each one at 120 degrees to the previous one, rings a bell. Pete.
