  1. A quick search on Yell.com brought up this lot:- Southern Rebore Services Unit 44, Rowfant Business Centre, Wallage Lane, Rowfant, Crawley, West Sussex RH10 4NQ Tel: 01342 713634 I absolutely nothing about them but they provide the services you are looking for. Pete.
  2. I emailed them yesterday lunch time and this morning recieved a qoute for the combined egt/boost gauge and both senders etc, $189 inc shipping. Works out at approx £99. delivery is quoted as seven days. I'll let you know how accurate that is when mine arrives. Pete.
  3. When I was looking for a Disco I went into Reid landrovers as they were local to me then. As I was looking around the yard the old boy who was working on a defender in the workshop came over for a chat. He intially thought I was looking for a defender and went into a long spiel (sp) about how they only repair bulkheads properly by filling them with epoxy and glueing the repair patches over the holes . At this point I walked back to my car and left. I have to say that I wouldn't have bought any of the vehicles in their yard as I didn't think any of them were worth the money they wanted. I also suspect that the old boy is normally kept away from Joe public as he seemed to honest about what they were doing. Pete.
  4. I have now used about a tank and a half of diesel (BP Ultimate as it's only 1p a litre dearer at the mo) with a double dose of millers in it and although I can't say it's going any better than without, it definately doesn't smoke as much as it did. I need to do a few more fill ups before I can tell if it's made a significant difference to the fuel consumption. Pete.
  5. I have to say that I was nervous the first time I did it but found as long as everything is clean they are very easy to reinstall correctly as you just push them in till they stop. Pete.
  6. Assuming it's a Disco 1, If your careful with the ABS sensor it should be possible to lever it out of the swivel pin and tie it up out of the way. you will need to clean around it first and I then shoved a piece of rag in the hole to stop muck getting in. IIRC there are connectors on the inner wings that pull apart in the usual manor to disconnect the sensor. Hth Pete
  7. Not sure how much that will help as the vehicle is a 200TDi not a V8. Pete
  8. Mine had classic Spider related intermittant non-starting issues (ie the starter motor would not spin, wait a few minutes and it would be fine, usually after long hill climb leading to a higher temperature) which ,after taking the dash apart and then discovering that the spider wasn't there, I traced to the relay inside the alarm unit that controls the starter relay (and fuel solenoid). I fixed mine by earthing two of the black/orange wires that go into the unit as that is what the unit should have been doing. The PCB in the unit had some really shoddy soldering (I am an electronics engineer so I know what soldering should look like) and several dry jonts on the afore mentioned relays. Ok so I might just have been un-lucky but I think the potential for the same hassles exist with the EDC ones as well. Pete.
  9. From the tech archive wheel bearing replacement. HTH Pete.
  10. The original post states that if he tries to make it go the engine smokes but not a lot happens which i took to mean that it was in drive but had no power rather than not going into drive and thus not moving. I would agree that if the fluid was low it would not shift well. Mine does exactly that when the level drops (it has a small leak on the output shaft to the transfer box) but if I try to rev the engine it doesn't struggle and smoke, it revs and then harshly engages drive and then moves normally but with harsh(er) gear changes. Pete.
  11. There is some evidence that changing the oil and filter can be a bad idea. Ashcroft FAQ link the last one relates to gearbox oil changes, Although I found I had no problems having done mine. Also surely if the ATF was low it would be sluggish to take up drive rather than being slow to move? Pete.
  12. The circuitry that does what the spider box does is built into the alarm module on the EDC/Auto ones as far as I could work out. It is still possible to by-pass bits of it as I had to do it on mine. However none of this helps as it applies to the later models not the vehicle in question. Pete.
  13. Good to see you got the engine fitted and running. Does this mean your fuel consumption will be even worse now? Can't help with the query though as I have a nice simple diesel Pete.
  14. Good to see this coming together. Just a quick question, Will dogs be allowed in the camp site and show ground? Pete.
  15. I reckon Austin rovers Vermillion would be a nice subtle choice. Pete.
  16. I would agree with you that on a 12v vehicle that would be the case, obviously on the fire engines it was less of an issue as most of the electrics were 24v. Pete
  17. Back in the dim and distant days when I used to build fire engines, we used to do exactly as Luke has sugested to get 12v feeds for certain bits of comms equipment from the 24v battery system used on the chassis. Pete.
  18. I only cleaned the intercooler on mine as I had it off the vehicle anyway but did it at the same time as the EGR removal and inlet manifold cleaning. As comical says the intercooler should not get muck in it from a failed EGR. In fact the intercooler on mine was actually fairly clean but every little helps. B) Pete
  19. Whilst I agree that some muck comes from the breather, in the 18 months I have run mine with out the EGR I have not had any significant build up in the inlet manifold (the metal work is still silver in colour but a little bit oily, where as with the EGR in place (admittedly over a longer period as I don't know when the valve failed) the crud build up had reduced the diameter of the opening in the inlet by some 12mm. Pete.
  20. Coming along nicely Les. I hope you put the rockers in before you fitted the rocker cover . Pete.
  21. I found a load of black sludge in the inlet manifold when I was changing the gasket, which had failed, and did a little research that basically pointed to the cause being a failed EGR valve. It was also quite smokey which got better after I blanked the EGR off. I think that it improved the mpg and performance a little and the throttle response definately improved, It was not a major change but was noticable. As I said above it now smokes less on hard acceleration too. Pete.
  22. I would have thought so as most TDI's are overcooled anyway. I have a single kenlowe fan on mine and I have only had it switch on two or three times in a year. I don't tow with mine but it does get a lot a varied runs from long motorway ones to short b-road blasts plus some laning. plus mines an auto so may work the engine a bit harder. Pete.
  23. It came with it when I bought it and got replaced as soon as I could (I don't like them either) Pete.
  24. I did mine approx 18months ago and I have to say that having cleaned out all the muck from the inlet manifold and intercooler it definately runs cleaner and smoother since, but my egr had failed, If it is working correctly the mod should not make any difference. This thread may help clicky here. HTH Pete.
  25. Just out of interest what type of airfilter did you have fitted (standard or K&N type) as I noticed on my home made snorkel also rear facing, that fitting a standard paper element made mine much quieter. Pete.
