  1. Other way round. The 4.7 ratio is the weakest due to its larger diameter crown wheel and more likely to flex. The 3.54 is smaller diameter and does not flex as much so there is less need for pegging. I also think the pegging stops some of the issue with crown wheel bolts coming loose/stretching. If you can I'd peg them Bob. And as Breg90 says, £200 is quite reasonable, Anyone who thinks not needs to try running a business.
  2. Looks like the very thing Mark. PM on its way!
  3. Think I know how im going to do it but just incase someone else has already done it and found a better way I thought I'd ask. Its a 4.2 with 2 V belts and a Multi V. (Although I might well re arrange the pulleys to better suit what I want) Cheers. Steve.
  4. Thanks Dave. The number on the box ends in 740. Any idea what type of fittings I should ask for? Hydraulics are not something ive had a massive amount to do with.
  5. Ive fitted a few air bags and had one valve block seize up due to water leaking past a back light which is where it picks its air up from. They dont seem too troublesome tho, Much better than the RRC's were.
  6. Auto bhox is 660cm long, Your LT77 is 500cm long! Spect you can guess why I know that! Im keeping the motor where it is in mine and taking everything else(including the rear axle) back. its nose heavy enough without moving the motor forward.
  7. My first trip to Slindon and I really enjoyed it (even if we did retire at 12 o'clock) Had an excellent time when we were still going and I much prefer the taped out, drive through type sections. The Friday night was also very enjoyable with quite a few camping, A bit of socializing makes a much better weekend of it. Many thanks to James , OEC, X eng and all the Marshals for a brilliant (yet short for us) event. Cheers. Steve.
  8. Cheers for the reply. I definitely need the RH (or left as you look at the engine from the front), Probably need both!
  9. Need to get a second alt on the 4.2 ive just bought for the challenge truck. Im sure ive seen alternators mounted on both sides of the V8 on O/E brackets. I will Fab a bracket if I need to but if theres something available off the shelf then it would be much easier and quicker to go that way. Can anyone confirm if they are available and if possible a part number would be brilliant. Any photo's so i can have an idea of what they are like would also be great. Thanks in advance. Steve.
  10. Try doing a Find-a-part style, on line, breakers yard search. I did recently and got replies for around 10 sets. The American ford stuff is a bit of a mine field, Theres so many versions, Only some of which is worth using and nobody seems to agree on what you will find the right stuff on. In this country you wont find it.
  11. Your having a laugh, The more I look into this the more it becomes clear the GQ C.V's are well known for breaking, Even more so than the Toyota it would seem. The Toyota rear is known as pretty good, Granted not as good as a Nissan rear but will out last a GQ CV many times over. Ive been looking into this a lot over the last few months and the choices worth considering are either GU front and rear, Or 80 series front and rear with Longfield front shafts and CV's. The GQ CV's aint much bigger than the LR ones, Granted the rest of the axle is massive but theres little point in that when the CV is small. Even with uprated units its still not going to be any better than an Ashcrofted/ARB'd Rover axle although it would work out cheaper untill the Nissan CV breaks. The std yota CV's aint great (as im sure Nick will tell you) but with Longs they are known to be pretty bom proof. Gu Axles are very hard to come by, If you do find them they wont be cheap, They wern't sold much in this country but Yota's are everywhere. Yota axles are cheap and the Longfields will cost you roughly the same as a front ARB for the Nissan.
  12. What, Lady's coming back out of retirement? Good work Lardy, It'll be nice to see you again.
  13. Ah, See there was me thinking the system used a MAF sensor, But now I think about it some more there was talk of "T"ing into a Vac pipe so I assume there's a MAP sensor built into the ECU. Similar to the rover/GEMS systems???
  14. Many of the modern hot wire MAF sensors have a built in IAT sensor. Is there any reason not to use one of these instead of fitting a seperate IAT?
  15. Ahh no , Turners right for a change, Well never hear the end of it !
  16. Also A well done to James and Nick for a fantastic and well deserved result. Good work Fella's.
  17. Spoke to Chris earlier, Sounds like they (Chris and Simon), despite problems, did i again, Well done Guys. Also sounds like Rob Turnah Did very well, Excellent result, Well done.
  18. Is there any reason other than availability people use the Ford Coils? Ive never been a fan of the ford DIS coils and have replaced so many ive lost count. I do have access to a set of disco2 V8 coils, any reason not to use them?
  19. I will probably have a pair for sale later in the year (probably nearer the end) as im moving my engine and box plus lengthening the wheel base.
  20. Yea, The CV's in the Y60 arn't much larger than the rover CV so theres no gain over what I have now. The Y61 cv is much larger.
  21. Need to get some hose ends so I can make up some Oil cooler hoses. These are all a bit new too me. Anybody know what thread/style fittings and Diameter pipe I need to order for a 4.2 v8 (engine/filter housing end) and ZF auto box out of an LSE range rover. Thanks. Steve.
  22. Getting the bits together for the rebuild, Have a few options for axles Volvo, Mog or if I could find them Nissan GU. Searched the country High and low but cant find any GU's. Found a set in France but then realised they are LHD so im on a Last gasp attempt to see if I can find some. Can anyone help? Im open to the option of getting them sent from overseas (dependent on price) as long as they are RHD. Any Help much appreciated. I don't want to get into the whole Portal v's std axle debate here, I'm very open to the portal option but the Nissans are my preference so I want to see what's available and at what price before I do anything. Cheers. Steve.
