  1. Very easy to fit and highly recomended. You'll be very pleased with it.
  2. Never heard of the X link! Can anyone stick up a link to an explanation or give a quick explanation please?
  3. This is a free spool :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=am_KsYcJZ8M
  4. Typical, Everyone else drives it without fuss but Turner has to make hard work of it !
  5. Hi Alan. Do you use any sort of head set radio type setup with that? If so what is it and how did you get on with it? If not do you think it would be possible? Cheers. Steve.
  6. Thats awesome, Fair play! Come on Jim, Where's mine?????
  7. Hi Bob. The rope thing is definitely an issue. We have found its usually happens if you run a length of rope back on the drum without any load on it then have a shorter pull the next time so your pulling over top of loose rope. Then the rope tends to cut into the loose stuff and cause problems next time you feed it out. The speed of the winch just makes it happen all the more but trying to keep the rope tight/keep some load on it as much as possible seems to help a lot. We used an XD9000 on the front of our truck when we started. It pulled very well and seems reliable except the brake was a bit of a pain. It used to destroy brake pads very quickly through over heating when lowering off stuff, The brake would stop working once it had been in water meaning you had to pull it all apart to clean it out and it was a case of taking the whole winch off the truck to get to the brake. I don't think I ever had the brake working properly for more than a few hours so it had to go. Rope bunching was also an issue, The drum would be simple to extend, you would need to extend the drive shaft aswell. Smaller diameter wouldn't be easy as the brake sits in the middle of it.
  8. Brilliant, Any idea who the original selling dealer was! J.V.Likes maybe? Dealers tend to buy blocks of registrations at a time so the two were probably part of the same run.
  9. Thankyou Neil. Im really chuffed with that. I can not believe how well it came out, Its brilliant. Even blown up full screen on my big monitor its faultless. I owe you some beers next time I see you. I very much doubt this but is there anything can be done with the red eye (we'll mines red eye, Pikeys are just like that, Apparently its due to the "adult" material he finds on the internet ) in the other pic James posted?
  10. I like the look of the Xeng one and believe its proved very good in boggy ground.
  11. Excellent, Thankyou Neil and James. Thats brilliant and I didn't even have to do anything. Will that size of file be OK for an A2 size print????? Cheers Fella's. Steve.
  12. I need a photo blown up to A2 size for something in a weeks time and the only picture I can find thats any good has red and white tape across it which when blown up will stand out like a sore thumb. Does anyone that has some experience of editing photo's think its possible to remove the tape in such a way that it will look good when stretched to A2? And if so is there anyone out there that fancies taking on the job of editing it? Alternatively Does anyone have any pics of my truck competing that they think would look good blown up? Doh, Typical, I was about to post the pic so anyone who's in the know could have a look at it and advise me but I cant find it on this PC so I'll post in when I get to work! Thanks in advance. Steve.
  13. I suspect they are not making any more as the RD128 which replaces the RD56 does not use the plastic cage.
  14. Chris, I have a TDS as mid mounted on the challenge truck and its a nice bit of kit. As an "occasional use" winch I don't think there is anything better. They are nicely made, Good VFM, pull well and the extra seals should be perfect for a winch that probably isn't going to see lots of maintenance. As far as motors being water proof they are not. They do need to breath so if your going to seal it with silicone then fit a breather. Rain doesn't tend to be an issue but if you dont seal it and do give it a dunking then its only a five minute job to take the end plate off and let it dry out over night or give it a squirt with WD40 and stick it back together. As James says above, Go for a hawse of some sort, Stainless for synthetic or steel for steel. Rollers are more trouble than they are worth and will fly to bits if you have a side pull. For the use I would imagine you would have for it I would totally recommend the TDS.
  15. No p*$$ taking here. Looks impressive for a wide range of material thickness. At 240 amp on 6mm im not suprised you had to move fast. I dont expect you know what its like turned up high for long periods of welding yet?
  16. We carry a A knife, a spike and a roll of tape for splicing plasma. A pair of vice grips. Screwdriver. Tyre lever. Used to carry all sorts but dont now. You've all got me worried now tho!
  17. Yep, Ashcroft, I have them fitted! Bob, If they are about the same age you May as well send both diff's and get them done at the same time. Peg them aswell while your at it :D .
  18. Almost surely the plastic cage inside has broke. Dave Ashcroft makes steel replacement (I have them in both of mine) Either get him to send you one or send the diff to him to have it fitted.
  19. If this is where were heading then lets hurry up and get there. That's awesome, Just the kind of driving I like . Jim, Find me some of them big axles so I can!!!!!
  20. I can fully recommend it. Main reason for doing it was flattening the snorkel all the time plus the air box arrangement was less than watertight. The disco manifolds were a bit cluttered and would need an arrangement of right nasty bends to turn the air intake back. This has tidied it all up. Dont have to move the brake and clutch pipes really, Just had to bend them a bit and now as you can see they are untidily stuck up, kinked and messy so I'll make some new ones and route them a bit neater.
  21. Carlsberg cans, mmmmm, I have plenty of those!# Well, theres been a small amount of progress today but I got side tracked and ended up doing 101 other jobs on the truck rather than getting on with the task at hand ! Unfortunatly the 300 TDi pipe work didn't fit. I thought it might as there wasn't that much difference but it wouldn't. So I used some bends and made up some intercooler pipes. Plumed in the waste gate actuator pipes, FIP pipes etc etc. All thats left now is make a new clutch and brake pipe. Decide if im refitting the heater. Tidy up some wires and pipes and refit the wing. Then I can get on with the pipework through the cab, Best drag that TIG out and learn to use it a bit quick!
  22. Sort of, Just spoke to Simon, Chris and Simon won. Well done fella's. Adrian was a little rough with his toy and broke it again!!!!! He sounds a little P*%$&d as it was quite early on and was home in time for lunch. Think from what was said the weather wasn't kind to them and they all had a rough day.
  23. Ok maybe I was going a little far saying to ignore physics and maths as a majority of the time they are very important in the design. But you know what im saying Simon. There are some situations, Off road Suspension particularly where an accurate recreation of the many variables is not possible and maybe the numbers are not necessarily a great representation of what may work and what may not. Sometimes you just need to go with what works through testing. Steve.
