  1. I would say that a stuck caliper is much more likely to cause your issues that a bent/twisted anti-roll bar.
  2. Personally I wouldn't bother adjusting the mount back to something like true I would simply remove the anti-roll bar. I doubt you'll notice a great deal of difference in all fairness without it.
  3. As a proxy for the tracking look at the wear patterns on your tires in particular the front pair. This will allow you to see if your tracking is inline or not as a non even wear pattern would indicate miss alignment. Such alignment is quite likely to be miss in a service and so could have been there for sometime. All the best
  4. Came accross this tonight, interesting from technical point of view for electrifying an older architecture but also Terrain Response into a Defender. Is this something we could see in future production towards the end of the Defender life? http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/geneva-motor-show-2013/geneva-motor-show-land-rover-showcase-defender-ev Best Wishes
  5. Tank is 80 litres, maximum range for myself on a long run is upto 500. Stick to the 300 above and you should be good and be putting in around £60/70 each time which is much more paletable than a fill from empty. HTHs Ryck
  6. Many thanks for your replies guys, That's good to bottom that out as a non starter now than when things are all in bits. Can I ask, how did you upgrade to Discs on your Salisbury rear axle, what parts are needed/is it a cost effective upgrade? Best Wishes Ryck
  7. Quick question asked by a friend who is interested potentially in my rear discovery axles from a 1993 200tdi when I come to break it in replacement of his 1993 200tdi 110 rear axle which has drum brakes Alas though the casing on my rear axle is rather shot but the hubs are in very good order. So the question is will my hubs from the stub axle be able to swap straight over or does it require a change of the whole casing to facilitate this update from Drum to Disk brakes? Many thanks in advance. Ryck
  8. I certainly did feel the odd one out with a total clean car, thanks to parking it in the underground one at work in the morning before we were all advised to leave Basingstoke before we got stuck Drove home and then upto Worcestershire, no issues albeit the Hampshire local authority have decided to equip every tractor with a snow plough and send it out so all the minor roads became sheet ice So had to adapt and use the verge to slow down once much to the funny looks of the sliding seat who was coming the other way There was a lot of cars with damage though and several vans in ditches along the M4 and A417/419, including brand new Range Rover Sport running around with a pushed in Corner
  9. Many thanks for all your replies and apologises for my later reply (the forum wasn't posting as we know and then I was away). I think from all your posts that it is worth keeping and consequently it has been wheeled into the back corner of the garage for future use. Apart from the cables what else would I require to get the welder going/service it before use? Also does anyone know where I can find a manual on how to use the welder and also I think one of the control knobs is missing as others on ebay seem to have 3 and I only have 2 on this one. Best Wishes Ryck
  10. Yes thats what I am not so keen on, considering how much it weighs there has to be a good amount of oil in there. Does anyone know how much value of copper is in there though? Prices on Ebay seem very variable, does anyone know what it really is worth as a fair price? I somehow think its a bit to powerful for what I am going to need in all fairness and not the most mobile. Ta
  11. Dear All, Acting as a mobile trollied chicane in the garage I have an old Oxford Arc Welder weighs an absolute Ton. Welding range is between 20 to 180 Amps and seems to all be there though it will need new cables and probably a re-wire of the plug I understand it to have been working prior to being placed in storage by the person who gave it to me. Looking around these do seem to be rather desireable both as welders & to send to the scrap man for the Copper inside them. So I'm wondering what to do with it whether I will get more money selling it as a Welder that needs new wiring or breaking it for the Copper and taking that to the scrap man. Any thoughts? Ta Ryck
  12. Thanks Maverik. It does sound very much like the sound I would get from a rubbing tyre but I had the wheel off to do the bearing and had a good inspection and was unable to find anything there. It seems to be very intermittent and most common when the car is cold. I had to take her 500 miles back and forth to Cornwall over the weekend and once warm it doesnt seem to occur. I think I shall do some further inspections once I am back home with the garage and see if I can ascertain what it is. The car is driving fine and if it does develop over the next few weeks of low mileage then hopefully I should be able to identify it easier. I will report back anything I find. Ta
  13. I will have a go at looking at the slope, there has always been a good amount of slope from the front diff so I'm not sure how much I can pinpoint to a CV if it is so. I did full lock right deliberately in the office car park today and didn't have any noise, it seems odd and quite specific when this noise occurs but there is something there. The props are fine to my knowledge. I visually inspected/pulled them about a bit at the weekend and reguarly grease them. Also the front prop is a heavy duty one and only 2 years old so I doubt there would be anything there. Any more thoughts? Ta
  14. But I am not getting it on full lock when I am turning left and also when manouvering at slow speeds it's not there. Are there any other symptoms that I would be getting with a C.V and how do they fail/wear? Ta
  15. Dear All My Ageing Disco 200tdi has developed a low noise rumble similar to a tyre rubbing on a radius arm when go slowly i.e. second gear when turning right around say a roundabout. However I'm not putting enough lock on get around to see the tyre rubbing on the radius arm. I checked the front bearings at the weekend as well as tightening the steering box and that was all in order. The only item being a slight judder in the right hand wheel as you turned the steering but it is at the end of a lot on linkages. Overall the car is also driving fine and making most of the noises and rumbles that you expect from a 19 year old Discovery. Any thoughts welcome. Ta Ryck
  16. The access is a little tight but not that bad. The biggest issue we has was squeezing the head off with the push rods still in it as we couldnt shift the rockshaft retaining bolt that I had been overtightened in situ. Ta Ryck
  17. Cheers for the advice guys, Got the parts from Turner Engineering (top service) and did the job in a day and a bit over the weekend. Was held up by a very overtightened bolt holding down the rocker shaft that we had to remove once the head was off but its all part of the fun.
  18. Objections to both TROs sent citing the constant erosion of vehicular routes against a minority of user group which is directly at odds of the notion of a national park. All the best Ryck
  19. Cheers Guys, Thats good to clear up the gasket option Western - Any part numbers for the valve stems? Also book of lies? is this the Britpart Catalogue or the Haynes manual? Ta Ryck
  20. Dear All, My 200tdi Disco Head gasket has started blowing on the number 4 cylinder right at the back away from the coolant and oil channels. I am going to be replacing this in a couple of weekends times hopefully when I can get home (it only needs to go 10 miles each way to work for now and I am monitoring the coolant & Oils daily encase) Now obviously I need to replace the gasket with the correct type and can Identify what is on there by the number of holes. If I don't need to skim the head then I will need the same type. But if I do need to skim the head then what are the tolerances for the difference gaskets and their thicknesses? I believe there are 4 different ones and who is a good supplier? Also while I have the head off what else is it worth looking at/inspecting/renewing? I am assuming new head bolts are worth getting? Best Wishes Ryck
  21. Cheers for the links and information guys. I have a couple of days free next week so will be spending that time looking at this again now I have the draft spec for providing a masters scope this year with the uni. All the best Ryck
  22. David and Sean - Thats superb. I shall put those and there follow in links into the document bank as something to get our student started upon. Cheers Ryck
  23. Now thats going back to the early days. That would probably be the Basingstoke Canal of the top of my head and yes I remember there was a lot of management around the Canal when they dredged it back when we used to live in the area in the 90s. You wouldnt happen to have any articles/sources for that to hand which I could put into the pack I am creating to give our Msc a few leads? Ta Ryck
  24. Simonr - Many thanks for your comments, do you reckon there is a chance that X-eng could contribute to this further down the line when we move beyond a masters level study? Western - Yeah I remember looking for lanes in Cornwall to make a day and it is limited compared to what you would expect given its size and rural nature. Can you remember what kind of lanes were around the Lostwitheil area in nature/density/number? Sean F - Many thanks for your offer, That stretch of coast is one we are looking at as there was a previous HLF funded scheme in the area that linked landscape to restoring routes which included a number of UCRs/BOATs. I'm guessing you graduated in 1993 from the original CSM site in Cambourne before it relocated to Tremough in 2006 (Ambassador fact moment there)? DrRob - PM will be on its way shortly. JeffR - Well that’s highly convenient! The disturbance element is certainly something I have down for the project scope for as you say creating a situation where you have multiple stages of seers rather than getting to a singular climax level. You wouldn't happen to have any more information/documents on the Fairy Shrimps on Salisbury Plain? I'm working on getting together some form a spec for this in preparation for the Masters Sponsors event at the end of the Month. All the best & many thanks for all your support. Ryck
  25. Thankyou for your responses guys. Western - I will certainly drop the Row Department an email and the Devon & Cornwall LR club one as well to see if they have any ideas provisionally of a suitable set of lanes. I may well be calling on that offer to go and take a gander at the lanes and snap a few pictures. Have you done any laning in Cornwall over the years in which case do you have any picture records that could be brought into the study for a longer time element. DrRob - How very apt a user name you have & thankyou very much for your offer of support, can I ask what PhD was in? nice to hear its from UoE as well. With regards to funding Treadlightly are able to put up enough funds for this intial masters research project however for the subsequent projects we simply do not have the resources which is why we are seeking sponsors for this and others. Alas it seems that while companies are very keen to purchase magazine space judging by LRO their appetite to support Treadlightly isn't there. We've also got the support of Natural England as of last week which should be putting me in contact with their local evidence teams in the area to provide some logistical assistence. On a final note DrRob where abouts are you in Hampshire? My first placement with my graduate employer starts for 9 months in Basingstoke so I'm wondering if you would be around to meet face to face. Cheers Ryck
