  1. For river levels you can use the EA's monitoring stations which can be accessed here http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/default.aspx This will allow you to monitor the river levels relatively in the area you are at. For Strata I also know that there has been some recent additional signage added to the route as detailed on the GLASS forums which should become apparent on the ground so follow that.
  2. Thanks for that disco_al - I was wondering if they shared the same relay on a 200tdi somewhere as the were both going at exactly the same time halfway through moving from one lane to another with the heater on full and the indicator on and both would die such that they have to be linked somewhere. Do they share any wiring at all?
  3. Dear All So while Driving/Sailing home to Worcs from Falmouth today the Disco ran very well except for a rather wierd electrical problem around Bristol. What happened was I would lose my indicators and also at the same time lose the heater blower motor. Then after about 4/5 minutes both would come back to life before going dead again for another 4/5 minutes. This went on a fair few times and I havent a clue what the problem was. I know that my indicator trailer light is nearly always on currently as I need to sort the resistence in the circult and my trailer wiring out in general but this has been fine for months. It was also very very wet at this time but the whole journey was wet but could it be water in the trailer wiring at the back causing someform of short? Any throughts/ideas welcome on this one? Cheers Ryck
  4. Thats interesting. Mine will sit in between the chassis rails in a bumper I got from Karl on this site brought forward in the middle in order to take my custom A bar. Do you have the measurements or any pictures of the Goldfish you have fitted as it is likely to be in a similar mounting situation to mine looking at your profile picture. Many thanks for all the feedback. I don't think I will be going down the Champion route and will look in more detail at the Goldfish or a superwinch. That big orange one looks interesting but I can't help but feel that the support for parts just won't be there in a few years time like it is for Superwinch in particular. Many thanks Ryck
  5. I actually Hadn't thought about the Goldfish offerings but I see their 9500 is the same price as the champion. Would you recommend that to perform better than the champion then? Does anyone have current experiance of these things are all the reviews I have are off older less reliable models and whilst they claim/the rumour mill says they have got better I have not come accross any evidence of this. Cheers for that, £400 with a plasma rope is certainly something that appeals. Do you know what the support is like for spares in the future though? I will extend the wires like we have done with Dads superwinch X9 in order to move it from harms way, we brought the tool to do the flares and end's to the wires so thats not an issue.
  6. Dear All, I'm after some upto date advice as all I can find so far is from a few years back on which winch to fit onto my Discovery which I use for Greenlaning, Marshalling and general use. Its going to be there more "incase" than planning to use it but I want it to be future proof in the sense of being upto some regular abuse albeit not to a challenge level should I start needing to use it more. Both are going to be installed with twin batteries, an X-eng split charger and with the solenoid mounted inside the engine bay keeping it out of harms way and allowing me to keep my front spots. As shown with my bumper below. I've narrowed my choice down between the following two Winches Superwinch - LP10000 http://www.electricw...p10000-12v.html Champion - C9500 HS http://www.firstfour...speed-12v-winch Both would get a synthetic Dyneema in time which @140 is the difference between the sythetic equiped champion and non equiped one on the prices I can find currently hence looking to get the steel rope one in the first instance. My questions are what are peoples current experiances with Champions build quality and this winch in particular. I like the fact that its fully sealed and comes with a very long electric & mechanical warranty but is it just going to keep going back for new bits? Also with the Superwinch does anyone have any experiance with this lower level Superwinch and is it likely to be upto the elements in terms of water etc like the champion claims? Any thourghts welcome. Ryck
  7. Ross, thats good to hear, would you be able to send me details and dates for all four if I was to drop you an email by PM? the last week in january I am comitted on a trip to Snowdon already but other ones in the year may well fall nicely. Ryck
  8. Dad and I are really interested in this but unfortunately its a bit late notice over what is a very busy Christmas period for us. Do you know if this will occur next year again? and if there are any similar events throughout the year? Cheers Ryck
  9. What about a usb internet dongle on a simple monthly contract. Makes it entirely separate from those in your home and removes the need for bigger routers or cables. You could then take it with you when your away on a laptop or similar.
  10. Just watched it here http://www.channel5.com/shows/fifth-gear/episodes/episode-12-168 starts about halfway through. Interesting watch and nice to see a more sensible style of laning than the Disco3 review from 5th gear a few years back. Ta
  11. It was one off ebay, Its not a branded one from memory(It's currently not with me) and cost about £20. There is a rachet mechanism in it which allows you to adjust the size to hold whatever laptop you put in it upto a certain size. Sorry to not be more helpful. Cheers Ryck
  12. I'm running MemoryMap on a dell mini9 with an evermore IP67 reciever and a car charger which goes straight into the cigarette lighter to go from 12volts to 19volts. Been using this for 2 years now and its been faultless. I have a mount that I can stick onto the windscreen of whatever vehicle I am in so I move it around depending on if I am driving or navigating. I also have a Peli case that I keep the laptop in so its perfectly safe to transport when not in use. Picture below shows the setup working in Dad's 90 earlier this year. HTH's Ryck
  13. More details and a few renderings came up a couple of days ago. An upmarket move as ever from LR http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/259453/
  14. I must say that black defender mock up does look very nice much more in keeping with what I expected than the silver car in the other preview shots. Also I do agree with JLR's current line up there is certainly hope as their products are very good currently compared to others in the market. Its whether they can get the defender right as a "utility" rather the more luxuary moves they have been making over the past 10 years that will be the key point I reckon.
  15. Another potential question is how much is your friends car worth? If it is old enough to be getting a cheap door from a breakers then the Insurance company may well call it a total loss. They are getting more aggressive on this due to the high cost of repairs and also the associated admin & courtesy car costs of getting a car repaired. Regards Ryck
  16. Jason, Well if you could PM me the details I will see what I can do. Graham, Yep not to bad a guess from my location I am indeed just over the border in South Worcs.
  17. Jason, Depending on what it is and how quickly it needs to be picked up I may be able to get it for you this week as Ledbury isn't far for me. As for getting it onto you I am 90% sure I wont be over that way for a while but I am very close to the M5/A46 so easy if you want to come grab it. All the best Ryck
  18. Ted Just make sure you remove the selector arm carefully from where it connects to the selector housing so as not to loose the clip and pin. From then it is just the 6 bolts to take it off. Best to reseal it with either sealant or a new gasket and in there you should see the arm and the grub screw if that has come loose. All the best Ryck
  19. I had a similar issue with my late 200tdi having the low range first jump out and then losing the low range altogether in a very tight and steep lane. Dad & I traced the issue to the selector fork within the top of the transfer box and the grub screw within this having worked loose. To access this in the disco and remove the selector from the top of the transfer box we had to cut an access panel into the side of the tunnel which we undersealed afterwards. The access panel we created. The High/Low Selector that we removed and tightened the grub screw in. Hope this Helps. Ryck
  20. Cheers Chris, I don't think that item sold so hopefully I can pick it up and get those parts in one go and also get those clear lamps after checking out the LED situation. I'll hopefully get it all done for my trip upto Gatescarth on the 5th along with wiring in my new front seats from an ES model, Once I find the ruddy wiring and switches Cheers for all your help Ryck
  21. Chris Just started to sort this out and am looking at the freelander bulb holders, Do you happen to have a part number so I can identify the right ones? Assuming they are these ones? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-FREELANDER-98-04-REAR-LIGHTS-BULB-HOLDERS-/180633738658?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a0e9c1da2 In which case the two in this listing will be ideal to combine with these rear lights(yes a bit modern but they are as cheap as take off ones by the looks of it) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360350893811&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en Then I will just need to pick up the combined brake light/rear light LED's to go into the bulb holders unless the ones supplied with the rear lights will do both? All the best Ryck
  22. Dear All I am trying to replace my 200tdi standard blue fabric seats with some leather heated/electrics ones from a Disco 300tdi both for comfort and that one of my 200tdi ones has broken. Does anyone have any experiance or part numbers of doing this swap? So far I know I will need to get a pair of the seat switch panels (are these costly?) and also either get a new wider seat base or make a plate to convert the 14inch seat basis I have now to the 19 inches needed on the new seats, again any thourghts on which is easier/better? Any ideas/thourghts please. Cheers Ryck
  23. Should be no reason why It won't work. I know someone who has kept with standard shocks in order to keep their articulation from going beyond the standard brake hoses. If its just for height then go for it otherwise maybe look at shocks to make sure you get the best articulation that you can. All the best Ryck
  24. Solid trailing arms did return for a year of Discovery production around 1991 to 1992 if I remember correctly before reverting to hollow as the solid ones where far easier to bend (as I have witnessed). All the best Ryck
  25. Renewing the seal/cleaning the seal or looking at the sunroof drain to see if its blocked. Can you give any more details about the model and type of sunroof you have as this will determine the most likely fixes needed. All the best Ryck
