  1. Looks clean for a 200tdi and a nice find. The sun blind kit you refered to I had on my old ES discovery and it was great in the summer and more useful than I expected!
  2. Western, thank you very much. Item purchased and should hopefully result in a less drafty door once fitted. Kind regards
  3. Hi I am after the part number for the weather seal that goes along the bottom of the passenger door plugging the gap between the door and the floor. Kind regards
  4. I haven't heard of that happening before, My only thought is that something internal to the tyre I.e. In the cord/banding has changed/loosened. Either way I would get it investigated by a tyre specialist myself. I'm not sure where you would stand from a warranty point of view but I would enquire about that as well. Kind regards
  5. It's the plastic wire tidy thing that sits in the dash below the radiator but what's it called? Kind Regards
  6. I wouldn't say it looks life a knife, it's very straight I'll give you but if someone is going to knife a tyre they will focus more on the sidewall that's easier to damage than the edge of the tread that is much tougher. Kind regards
  7. That's a cut to me and a fairly good ones as I would expect to see on a rocky Greenlane or similar. Not sure I believe that the tyres were nearly new when you acquired them as there is some cracking beginning to appear in the tread block you can see. Kind regards
  8. All Removed this yesterday in favour of fitting a full external cage in time and it was easier to remove it while the roof comes off to replace the CSW sides with van ones. Question is I'm struggling to figure out what it's realistically worth as so few seem to have been sold to set a price beyond a new one on ebay with the diagonal like ours that's on for just over £500. It's it a good used condition and just needs a little paint on the brackets to make it look all smart again. Would £300 sound daft? Item is as this one here http://www.safetydevices.com/expedition/products/roll-cage/Land+Rover+Defender+90+-1983-present/250/ Any thoughts welcome Kind regards
  9. Perhaps it would have been quicker to source a spare door from a breakers, maybe the pain from swmbo about it not matching would've been less than you have experienced so far?
  10. Reading through I would share this feeling, forgive me for being over cautious but by paying his paypal fees he is no worse off than paypal gift or cash in his hand. All it changes is the protection you have so whats his reason for being so hard over on paypal gift?
  11. Glad things turned out not to be serious, its always best to be safe and sure. Perhaps there is an underlying tone that Land Rovers aren't to be cleaned?
  12. Personally I didn't find any issues, the low box ratio on a discovery is the same as a defender so the shift to 235/85 just brings it inline with the stock defender ability. On road on steeper main roads you may well find yourself dropping to fourth to maintain your revs but this is offset by the ability to do much lower rpm on the flat and that fourth gear becomes much longer and more useful on a roads. Best wishes
  13. Glad to see they fit well and are looking the part. Best wishes
  14. Is it just me or can I read Goodyear on the sidewall of that supposed fedima tire? Again new looking pattern to me, the lugs look more spaced than a BFG KM Mud and also with more shoulder rubber. Best Wishes
  15. Gents Looking for a steer on the possible value of these parts. Original Clock, all working albeit the manual adjuster on the front to fast forwards the time doesn't in good condition. Original Rear Seat Belts, two side ones and a centre lap one with 2 clip holders in a pretty good condition. Best Wishes
  16. Make that 3, great looking lanes though and a good video to boot.
  17. As other have said, keeping a vehicle standard and learning to be a competent driver is the best and ultimately most satisfying and certainly safe way in my opinion. My shopping list in your position informed through the ownership of a Discovery for several years until recently would be; Reliability - Makes sure its had a good service including checking and tightening all the bushes in the suspension and ball joints in the steering. Suspension bushes and that the springs are properly secured. Simple things but you will be giving it a lot more flex off-road than the supermarket car park speed bumps offer. Also ensure you have your wading plugs and the required Allen key with you in the vehicle and that they screw in easily encase you need them! In addition ensure that you can smoothly get from high to low and visa versa along with a positive diff lock action - These mechanisms can stiffen up with lack of use and become sloppy from overuse which can lead to miss-section and a frustrating day!. Recovery - Its inevitable that you will probably need a helping hand at some point so lets ensure your safe in doing that. Up front a pair of Jate Rings with a braddle will suffice in the first instance and at the back a tow ball with a draw pin will ensure that you can be safely pulled backwards and forwards. These items are fine to buy as good second hand and should be achievable for about £20 each. Also go and buy yourself a pair of shackles and a good length ~3m recovery strop so you always have the equipment needed. Protection - Just encase I would provision a simple wrap around diff guard (about £15 used) and a simple steering guard (around £40 secondhand). This will ensure that your protected from the front end principally the more vulnerable diff pan and the steering rods upfront. Opportunity - To combine the front recovery points & steering guard with a steering guard with integrated recovery points depending on what you can find on the market. Tyres - As has been said a good set of boots is essential. ATs should be adequate for you and are ideal for Greenlaning to balance on and off road ability. A slightly larger size 245/75 or similar will fit with standard suspension nicely and give you a little more clearance. Again you can buy these used as a part worn set BFG All Terrains are the pick of the bunch and last for years! Finally - Go and Enjoy! you can add other items later but the setup above will serve you well and is what I ran on my DIscovery for several years slowly adding to it as time and finances allowed. Hope this helps. Best Wishes
  18. Mike, It's certainly a DIY job, just take your time and double check your templates before drilling out a hole in the wing for the snorkle to pass through. My recommendation would be either a southdown or Mantec one as they are very nice fitments. Best wishes
  19. Dear All, The time has finally come to shift on the carcass of my Discovery 200Tdi, stripped of its accessories, engine & gearbox its going to be a bare shell with the axles there so it can be rolled to the end of the driveway. Two questions are; - With the Value of Scrap metal these days what sought of value can I expect Mr Scrappy to offer me? - Can any one recommend any scrap dealers in the Worcestershire/Gloucestershire area preferably who will come and collect the thing as well which they seem to be offering more these days. If anyone does have any little bits they still need then do let me know (see sales section add) as I can pull these off prior to it going to the scrap man. Many thanks Ryck
  20. Yes I would say so, I had a Grub screw come loose on mine, I lost the ability to get into low range however I retained high and neutral and it all felt very limp. It is as simple as removing the 6 bolts as said that hold the selector on top of the gearbox. Inside you will see a shaft running across it and a little metal selector that faces down into the transfer box. If its a grub screw that's loose then you will see that and you just need to tighten it with your allen key. If actually broken then pop it back together, order a new one and replace when that arrives - Simple. Best Wishes Ryck
  21. I have a feeling the headlight panels are the same as in changing from 200Tdi to 300Tdi headlights you need on replace the plastic facias in addition to the light units themselves although I'm sure someone will be able to clarify this. Best Wishes
  22. The question I would start with is to ascertain if the fault is with the wiper motor/unit or if it is an electrical issue, perhaps in your switch or in its power supply, has anything else stopped working lately?. To do this I would remove the rear door card and then hot wire the motor unit from a 12 volt source to see if it still works, then you can work backwards into the wiring/switches that control the use of the rear wiper. What Discovery have you got btw? Best Wishes Ryck
  23. Likewise, its a 5 minute job! I am breaking my 1993 200tdi currently and that has 24 spline diffs and shafts throughout as some of the latest ones did, get the number of splines and a picture of the type of halfshaft end you have and go shopping. Best Wishes
