  1. Funny you mention that, it was orange in the end! Goggles? eh, what gogg.... oh yeaaaaahhhh... Of course I was wearing goggles! Superb advise freeagent... ta muchly D
  2. After a thoroughly productive and enjoyable day in the sunshine on saturday, modifying and welding the roof rack from the 110, the misses dragged me off to a certain swedish furniture shop up north (croydon!) on Sunday Well, having been so efficient on the saturday, and seeing as the weather was pants on sunday, I thought I'd do some DIY and put up some hangy rail things in the kitchen. Not a problem, just need to drill some holes in the walls.... easy! But oh no... not my walls, they had other ideas! So I won't be buying one of them cheap drill bit sets again. And all I did was make a dimple in the tile So what sort of drill bit should I be using to drill through wall tiles? I was using a masonary bit, thats right init?
  3. Lol... Like Jen said, Driver Ability that counts!!! Boy, am I in the brown smelly stuff when I get home tonight!!
  4. Have a look at the following: http://www.4x4prejudice.org/ Been around for quite a while now and has some good info that the tree huggers seem to want to ignore! HTH Dan
  5. What a crackin weekend... 4 days of messing about, with a bit of spannering in between! Bliss! Anyway I finally got around to doing a load of jobs on the camel this weekend, timing belt, brakes and the exhaust manifold which at some point in its life has been badly bodged . Sorry, don't have a piccy of the bodge, but it looks like a big core plug has been welded over the cover plate highlighted in the photo. So I constantly had a nice black stain down the side of the engine. So my question is... would this sort of bodge affect the economy (or lack of) of the vehicle? Is it likely that any other long term problems may have been caused? Cheers all, hope you all had a smashin easter break. Dan B)
  6. do you own a roofrack? Yup do you use it for work, leisure or both? leisure are you happy with it, or is it a compromise, because what you wanted wasn't available? Happy with it. It's a brownchurch jobby that comes standard on the Camel 110's. But it needed some modification when the roof tent was fitted as it has sticky uppy bits rouind the outside. I've now chopped it and made one section of the side fold-down-able so that the roof tent can sit as low as possible. B) if a modular roofrack system was available, allowing you to buy separate parts to build, then rebuild the rack to suit your requirements would you be interested? Maybe, but without being too "anal" about the whole camel thing, would probably stick with a brownchurch as that is what it's supposed to have. If I didn't have the Camel and I needed a roof rack, then a build it yourself job may well be a good option, but I'd want to to have the extra support brackets so that not all the weight was on the gutters. Hope this helps Dan
  7. Just to throw a bit more confusion into an already confusing topic!! Bish is correct about 235x85 fitting under at the front, but this is only if you keep a standard offset rim like the vogue alloys or some wolf steel rims. I'm running 235x85BFG's on Bertha at the mo on wolf rims. Although they look pants cos they sit inside the arches, I haven't has neary as much trouble as I used to have with my old wellies... they were 235x75 16 Technic Amazons/Greenway Machos on white 8 spokes. These really did make a meal on my front wings until I did the same mod as Fitz. Not sure on the actual data, but the offset on 8 spokes, modulars and the like is much greater, so yeah, you can keep the turning circle, but some metalwork will be required. Hope this helps! Dan
  8. Corteco seals are not genuine, but are up to genuine standard. Never had any problem with them. If they are supplied by Allmakes originally, then make sure the part number has a "G" on the end, eg FTC4785G or RTC3511G Britpart seals seem to be absolutely rubbish in my experience!
  9. Smeg! Forgot about this one Unfortunately won't be able to make it, gotta pick up the new "mobile house" on saturday and then run a club playday on sunday. And for those that haven't been following the semi-bob saga, Bertha is in the garage again! Have fun chaps, last time I went to Bures (about 4 years ago!!), I had a smashin day... it was a corker of a site! Dan
  10. Ahhhh... the old fuel tank conundrum... On my Semi-bob (only 12 inches ) I used the original metal tank and welded up some supports where the back seats would have been. Sorry the picture aint that good, but you get the jist... I've then boxed it in with some lovely lovely chequer plate Dan
  11. Got a load of tat to sell Will be on the lookout for a Camel 110 bull bar... Think I may be in for a long wait tho!
  12. Nice one Rob... well done. So when we gonna see you at Bunny Lane??? I'll third the NFU, cheapest for the Camel by a long way
  13. try googling "cutePDF". Another printer thing that converts to a PDF. D
  14. I particularly like the idea of a Tools section. I've made a few of my own special tools in the past that have worked a treat<_< . Be interesting to see what others have done too. D
  15. My better half got me some rock sliders for the Camel for Chrimbo, and at the weekend I FINALLY got around to haveing at crack at fitting them. The sliders are Britpart ones, and to be quite blunt, they are pants! They are all welded up nicely, and have a lovely powder coated finish, but all the brackets were in the wrong places! So rather than send 'em back and potentially not have 'em fitted for another 6 months, I decided to chop off all the mounts and weld 'em back on in the corrcet position. No problem after a bit of modification, they now fit perfectly! So this begs the question.... is my 110 wonky, or are Britpart rock sliders really that bad??? Anybody else had the pleasure of fitting them to a 110? D
  16. Blimey... a wealth of information! I've dealt with Phil at PG before, thoroughly nice chap... will give him a ring Tim.... taaaaaaa for diagram. Am tempted to strip the whole thing down now and have a poke about in there (it'll never work again!!) Bish... no news on the bobbed bob yet.... seems like there is always something else to do. Got up this mornin and Jen promptly announced that we were going shopping for a new bed!! So no playing today Rob... yeah, electric... the clue was in the question !! But thanks for the explanation of wiggly and straight bits! cheers for the info guys Dan
  17. You are the jammiest bu99er in the world! Have a bloomin good trip, and make sure you put plenty of piccies up when you can get near a pooter! D
  18. hmmm.... is that comment directed at anyone in particular????
  19. anybody on here know anything about Huskey's? I've just ploncked one on the front of my Camel 110 but have found that the thread has been stripped in the motor casing where the earth lead bolts on. I've also got oil leakin out of it! Surely there shouldn't be oil in the motor? Has anybody ever stripped on down before? is there an oil seal between the motor and the gearbox? If there shouldn't be oil in the motor, then I'll probably weld a short bit of stud bar in instead of using the fine threaded bolt... Or is this a really bad idea??? Cheers dudes/dudettes D B)
  20. Had a similar problem with my '86 Rangie, so wired the fuel pump into the rear wiper switch (no rear wiper 'cos it's a pickup ) and that solved me problem. Only trouble is, the fuel pump runs with the ignition on even when the engoine is stalled... not the safest of things!
  21. Got the Land Rover one with Mr Hammnod... Have just stuck it here for ya Land Rover - The greatest car HTH Dan
  22. yours is an 86/87 efi, isn't it? The alt is on a bracket that bolts on the right hand side of the engine when you are stood in front of the car looking into the engine bay? I had a problem with mis-aligned pulleys on mine, and also on a couple of other early efi's. There should be a supporting bar that goes from the front of the alt bracket down to the bottom of the engine. It was a bugger to fit cos the bracket on mine had obviously bent over the years, so needed some extreme leverage to get the supporting bar in HTH Dan
  23. are loosing fluid after you've bled the system? Easy way to check... is there hydraulic fluid raining out of the wading plug hole in the bell housing? As White90 says, sounds like the clutch slave has gone kaput Both slave and master cylinders are quite cheap if getting oem bits.
