  1. Just got back last night from a jolly good week of Laning and playing in Wales. Stayed at a superb B&B just outside Llandovery (sp?? ) called Llanerchindda Farm . Its Biker and 4x4 friendly and has it's own small off road site that kept us busy for a couple of days... So, the damage report goes like this... Day1 Bertha, my rangie developed a mysterious temp problem... switch the heater on and the temp guege starts doing wierd jumping up and down type movements... Rob and Pauls Rangie (3ltr Perkins job) blew the oil pressure guage pipe and deposited a load of oil on the road. Day2 Moo (yellow Rangie) blew a heater hose on the way up a lane. Bertha snapped a front halfshaft on the way down Ouch! Kevs Rangie developed a flat tyre... fitted new tube on the roadside B) Day3 Rob and Pauls Rangie blew its waterpump up That was interesting! Richard and Paul's bobtail developed a distributor problem. Day4 Marks 90 melted a fuse and his leccy fans packed up Day5 Caught berthas steering bar on a rock and snapped it! Moo's tyre got a slice in the side wall... fixed that with superglue!! Rob and Pauls Rangie seemed to have water in the fuel system and conked out on the way home. I stole Moo's steering bar and fitted it to bertha so I could drive home. Moo got recovered. Rob and Paul got recovered. The list of spares I'm gonna be taking with me to distant events has now increased somewhat!!!
  2. We've just got a full package sorted with Britannia Rescue. Covers all the motors for about £150. Fortunately I didn't have to use it to get back from Wales as me mates motor broke more comprehensively than mine, so he got the flatbed and I nicked his workin bits to get mine going again! Seem pretty good though, and I don't think they'd class a bent steering bar as an accident... I snapped mine and they were fine.
  3. IIRC, luvvers has a heavy duty "standard shape" one knocking about that he tried to palm off on me...
  4. Is that 'cos no 2 series axles are ever the same???? 2 reasons for wanting to go down the disk route... 1st is that they don't wear quite so badly in the gloop, 2nd is that there are some rather interesting plans for the engine department which will probably require the extra stopping power. B)
  5. what sorta damage are you looking at for a bolt on conversion? is it BIG ££££?
  6. Morning all, Not very often I pop over to the leafy side of things, but as the misses has now got a IIa 88 , thought I'd better start asking some questions!! She wants to have disk brakes all round, and seeing as I have a pair of Range Rover axles kicking about, it seems like a shame to waste them. So with a bit of angle grinder work, ie cutting off the shock mounts and radius arm mounts B) , is this a feasible option? Are the axles the same width (roughly)? Are there any major issues that I should be aware of? Ta Muchly! Dan
  7. Don't forget to release the fuel pressure before splitting the pipe, otherwise you'll cover yourself in petrol, which ain't generally a good idea!! Easy enough to do, pull the fuel pump fuse out and start the engine up, it should only run for a couple of seconds... job done
  8. Yep, thats the puppy... oh well, worth a try Go wash you keyboard out with soap and water!!
  9. Just like to add my copmments to this thread... WELL DONE CHAPS! Considering the timescale, I'm mightily impressed that you've managed to get this forum up and running with the number of members it has already... A damn fine job I have already put a link to it from my website (although its' painfully out of date at the mo!! ) I'd be right up for any forum merchandise that becomes available, especially any stickers so all you designy type bods out there, get yr pencils out... or can we just nick the lre sticker... that was nice and simple. My only suggestion , which I think has already been mentioned somewhere else would be a slightly easier/catchier web site address. I'll happily support this forum as it takes a lot of the monotony out of the everyday struggle of being parked in front of a pooter trying to look busy!!! Keep up the good work chaps! Dan
  10. Sorry if it's already been suggested over in "the old place", but have you changed the ECU temp sensor? It's the one at the front of the inlet manifold, just to the right.
  11. That wouldn't happen to be Minstead, would it?
  12. Reminds me of the old song... Ya picked a fine time to leave me, Loose wheel
  13. Theres a huge place in Portsmouth called Novatech. They are like a huge version of your local computer shop, except it ain't gonna go bust. They have won numerous awards from the computing press and will build a PC to the spec that you want, including the afore mentioned blingy neon lights!! www.novatech.co.uk HTH Dan
  14. Here the Devon 4x4 ones I managed to get my grubby mits on at Billing. hmmmm... I really must give the old girl a wash!!
  15. Probably cos it's one of them wierd bits that you'd expect to be under the cooling system section, but it's not, its in the electrical section... or at least thats the way it is sometimes!
  16. Is it called "In the Forest - with Philippa Forrester" (ooo eeeerrr!! ) ? about Friston Forest in East Sussex? Or am I in completely the wrong TV region?
  17. Well, what with me bitchin for Jen next time round, I think that stick will be gettin a lot more use!!
  18. Try ETC8496 My Microcat is well out of date, so it's possible that this part number has been superceeded, but it should be a good starting point. Dan
  19. I've just fitted a pair of Devon4x4 cones that I picked up at Billing.... nice and cheap! A friend of mine has gone and got himself some gone2far lower mount cones. Hopefully he'll be coming out to play this weekend, cos I'd really like to see/hear the difference in performance.
  20. LOL... My grandad said it to me many years ago... something tells me he may have been lossing his marbles at that point! HAd me in stitches for days... bless him!
  21. <RANT MODE> Or at least spending it on what it should be spent on! </RANT MODE>
  22. Having used both methods, think I'd always go with the vasaline option, because ( a ) it's quicker, and ( B ) I like the look you get from the checkout operators at Tesco's when you buy 3 big tubs of it!! I had an old knackered dizzy that I modified to fit into a standard drill chuck, popped the dizzy in the hole and wound away using a varialble speed drill. Dizzy had a bar welded in where the rotor arm would normally go, this attaches to drill, and the cam drive gear on the base of the dizzy shaft had to be ground off completely, otherwise you end up tring to turn the whole engine over with a drill... D
  23. Andy's Ibex (MogLite/RedIbex) with something non-colour coordinated on it!!
  24. Oh yes... remember it well! Trouble is I was too busy takin' piccy's of everybody elses truck makin' a splash, so didn't get to take any of mine Dan
