  1. evening all have done a search on here and on google and had a look thru a haynes book of bull**** on how to do the wheel bearings on the td5 axles the bit i dont think is right is where you need to torque up the new hub nut up to 210nm/155lbft and check for end float?? now at that torque i am not getting any rotational movement from the hub ok thats a lie i am but its very stiff to turn is this correct or have i misread the book or gone wrong sumwhere?? im no stranger to wheel bearings as i have done loads on my old 200tdi discovery as bordon play sites seemed to kill them with no problems thanks all
  2. a 1mm cutting disk on a angle grinder a grinding disk and a triangular file i had a funny noise at the wheel of my td5 but the drive flange was rusted solid on the shaft so i heated it and bashed it with copper hammer with no joy so had to cut it off and then fix the damage i did to the end of it with the said tools lol
  3. some time back i posted a topic about intermitint not working and not parking when turning them off ive changed the relay, park switch and tried a working switch from my td5 and still no joy but i lived with it. wile refitting the ignition switch surround as its been off for a month now they started to work, wiggled the plug and it would work and not work. so i then chopped off the multy plug and put my own bullet connectors on and its all good
  4. i found, well a mate found that squirt it full of loose oil(he used duck oil) put a bolt in the end and then use then oxi accetaline to heat it then stand well clear as it makes a bang and the end flies off across the workshop then you have access to the nut that is holding on the flange
  5. ive looked into this from a company in slough, cant remember the name but our company has used them to get 2 of our workers there hgv for when we will need them they said to me that they do a assesment first to see how much and how long training i will need i dont think i need that much training because the the last 6 years at work ive towed 3.5-5ton machines on trilers behind 11-18ton trucks oh the joys of being exempt from these things, just a shame i cant do the same out of work with my own car
  6. hello all im looking into getting a swing away spare wheel carrier, its a second hand one thats not been used but when looking at places they list ones for up to td5 and td5 onwards what is the difference between the pre td5 ones and the td5 ones? is there a different mounting position or the way it sits on the door? this one im looking at is made by mill services (any one know of them) and id doesnt fix to the door at all

  13. my 200tdi defender 1993 has had the front bolts that hold the drive flange grinded off by the last owner who i think must of had alloys fitted i got it with steels and put on my own steels and replaced the bolts as the heads were realy thin, on some i had to grind down the head take the flange off and use mole grips to remove the left over stud you can just about see the nuts in this pic of what i mean
  14. western the 100a 300tdi altrnator, is it physicaly larger aswell as when i went to my local auto electrical place they didnt have any in stock and when looking in the book he said that the mounting lugs were the oppisit side of the alternator and they noramlly are bigger, did you need to undo it and spin it round at all or was it a bolt straight on? the 70a one on my 200tdi went half way through the playday at broxhead yesterday i have here another brand new 70a one but the original had the plug with wires and this other one has terminal nut and bolts

  17. not sure mpg wise but if doin long distance or trailer towing id rather use the 200tdi than the td5 as for some reason that drinks it went from heathrow to worthing and back and did just over half tank, that was on motorways doin between 55-60 using cruise control and other roads kept to speed limit or max 60mph, im sure thats not good
