  1. I bet those tracks would be a nightmare on the M4...
  2. Just their own unique way of starting a hybrid project ! Neil
  3. Whilst playing on some local Green Lanes last weekend I noticed the 110 temp needle moved just off centre indicating a touch warmer than I would have expected while trickling along at low speeds.... (V8 3.5 ltr - Standard fixtures and fittings...) I don't do any serious off road work like the winch challenges or submerge the 110 beyond axle depth... I've got two un-named brand electric fans pulling air through but I want to make sure that whatever is there is providing efficient and adequate cooling without forward momentum assisitng with the flow of air..... I've seen in the forums a lot of people talking about Mondeo V6 fans etc. but can't find anything similar in the local breakers around here. Therefore I'm considering upgrading these fans for something hopefully much better for the job..... I've read about Pacet and Kenlowe fans.. Much of a muchness on paper... I like the idea of being able to set the temp at which each fan cuts in but it's not essential as I can always rig up a switch to override and bring the fans in at lower temps if needed. I'm aiming to ensure longevity of the engine and don't want something that can be prevented to spoil years of potential motoring... Can you offer some recommendations please. (Please include ease of fitting if you have personal experience.) Thanks in advance Neil
  4. Yes, Tech archive please... Something I have to do real soon to get rid of my severe clicking noise and different swing lengths....
  5. Nice to hear it worked in the end.. I was following your other thread on this and was getting snowed with the tech speak people were offering you.... You got any shots of wiring to rear after it was sorted ? Neil
  6. Although it seems a thousand miles away presently <hic> put me in with a co-driver who's not in here yet! Neil
  7. Well said that man... I like your dad too.... Look at the otehr stuff they are ignoring... Lexus RX 450H is a hybrid luxury saloon car. The base engine is something like a 3.3 litre V8 with 300 ish hosses. The battery motors add acceleration to approximate 400+ hosses. Now how can that car be considered environmentally friendly. It starts with a bigger engine than most!!! We ought to draw up a list of cars by CO2 rating and send that to the BBC as well... Will be fun to see where the "4X4"'s start appearing.. I bet there are hundreds of cars above the humble LR TD5 or the oldie but goldie V8 3.5's..... Re. the diesel trains.. They aren't even on the clean low sulphur diesel that cars were moved too around 2000..... The diesel they use has all the bad stuff that was taken out for cars so it's probably just getting worse.... Neil
  8. I've got a Panasonic Toughbook CF-72 attached to Garmin Etrex Legend C. I use Ram mounts for both devices. Running Fugawi software so I have OS map accuracy on board. Not used for "Sat Nav" as such but I do plan journeys on the home PC, can input waypoints and make routes up in advance. Input that into the Garmin unit and then out to the laptop out in the car. I'm in the process of mapping green lanes in my local area. I may look into nav software if I ever get lost going somewhere.... Neil
  9. Don't let the Eurocrats hear of this otherwise you will have to get them to sign a waiver form in triplicate giving permission to recover their vehicles and that the owner of said stranded vehicle acknowledges they are wholly accountable for getting themselves into said predicament and they understand the consequences of the action of recovering said vehicle might result in the vehicle BEING TOTALLY TRASHED !!!!! Neil (Great stories and pics too....)
  10. I'm not going to admit to "having" anyone, especially not in here !!! Welcome... Pull up a chair, get a coffee or beer at your side and make sure you are comfortable.... Neil
  11. Friend local to me and I are interested in this.. Sounds like the level we are at... No winches or hardcore stuff... Just car, GPS and cold nights sleep ! We'd only bring one car tho... Neil
  12. Tony... Is that your car with the new "Brown" interior... Very fetching! Bet that took some water to move it... Or did you just roll it in Tarr Steps to clean it ? Neil
  13. Many thanks for the info Kev. Will be on the phone to SR tomorrow or Friday to check status of their switches and probably return their product if I can......
  14. Doh !!!! Missed that ! Thanks for the pointy emoticon.. Me bad boy.... Will give Scorpion call on Friday. If they not got switches 3 weeks after selling me console (with switches) I'll see about sending back... Mud one is cheaper and looks more versatile...
  15. In awe of some of the boats and trucks in these forums.... Feeling like the poor cousin here... (Can't even afford a rubber dingy) Very nice kit everyone... Very nice indeedy....
  16. Sorry won't be there snapping this weekend peeps.. Have a great time and I'd love to see any snaps going... (Mrs Freak booked us off for a weekend in Budapest !... Hope the fighting has stopped) Used to live in Spalding so know the area.. Shame, would have liked to come. Is the best way to track these events in here or AWDC site ? Neil
  17. oh no.... Now I got a bigger dilemma.... Better see about sending the Scorpion one back.. Specially since they charged me for switches they didn't have when I ordered and didn't think to mention it !! (got those credited soon enuff tho !) Do you have switches if I need them Kev ??
  18. Nice indeed.. Have to agree with other posters... Don't stop the pictures.... Beats all that reading...
  19. I'd heard the Stig was now various "Stigs" as have other people..... Regards your comments re swimming V8's Timpo, apparently if you go fast enough you won't go under the water at all !!! So probably just need a really big V8.... 7 - 10 litres should cover it... (Didn't they take a skidoo and one of those mad Norwegian cars across water in Top Gear to prove the V8 was the kiddy for water habits?)
  20. Well the present Mrs. Freak actually jumped into and used our 110 today. I gets home and see shes finally back into using it which of course means that I no longer have to clean paw prints off the seats of her Golf and nose smudges off the windows... Yipee I here you all cheer..... Over dinner she says, "Whats wrong with it, it doesnt feel as powerful as I remember!" I gasp and stare.... The V8 is humming beautifully these days and revs to 6.5 without a care when asked. (Stock engine, nothing fancy) She then goes on to tell me the brakes probably need some attention as she had to think about leaving more braking space than her Golf! Nice 03 plate Golf TDi GTi, chipped and mapped to 200 hosses... Ok.. She may be a little spoilt and I am not gonna try and explain the weight difference and brake technology differences... What options do I have? Some starters..... - Sack the woman, sell Golf and buy decent 90 and spend loads on it like you lucky chaps in these forums - Keep the woman, sell the Golf and get the 90 anyways - Replace V8 3.5 with 5.2 with mega EFI and get it up to several hundred hosses and see if she still complains about the power What others should I consider... Please advise me, you are my only hope.....
  21. This is such bad reading... I hope you manage to get your winch and bumper back.... Neil
  22. I've got 5 in the house and none have done this. The oldest is 3 years old now and not a pixel dead. Sounds to me like a failure and you ought to be able to claim under warranty.. Be pushy if needed, you should not have to pay postage ! Tell them it's essential for your working at home (Or some other story that tells them it's essential.) and ask them to deliver the new one and collect the old one at the same time. Neil
  23. Thanks for the diagram Nige... Used it to sort my leads a week ago.. Very easy and looks real smart in the engine bay now ! Neil
  24. So.. Pugwash..... You are voting for bearings... Did I get that right?
  25. I know that feeling.... Every Friday I like to take to 110 to work just because it feels like the weekend has started... I have to park it out of sight round the back of the building where the parking is but always take the opportunity to nip and see the rest of my team in their building which takes me past my car... Looks so cool standing there head and shoulders over the other cars !
