  1. Like has been said already - Mog's are designed to twist their chassis. So getting a cage to fit and work with the chassis is a bit of a pig, obviously can, and has been done though. Also Mogs are torque-tube. ie the propshaft runs inside a torque tube. This means that the transfer box is a pretty stressed, so swapping in a Rover transfer box and the rest of the drive train is pretty tricky. Mog transfer box ISTR is with crawler gears (404) rather than 2-speed like a Rover. Swapping a decent engine onto the Mog gearbox is again tricky - there are some 1/2 decent options with engines from Mercedes cars, but nothing really cool, and a Mog gearbox isn't exactly user friendly IMHO. Volvos - don't know much about them
  2. I gave it a good workout last night about 30 holes for pop-rivets, through 2mm ali, and then 2mm steel. No problems at all
  3. Yeah thats the puppy. Info packs should be landing as we speak. Andy
  4. Christ in a rowing boat - I've never seen "Camper-Bex" with the body on !! try searching for folding caravans here is the first I found eBay Be wary of any with canvas sides though, by the time you get around to it - the canvas will have rotted
  5. Thanks for the all the advice - but I've ignored it all I've taken a different solution. I've bought a 1/2 decent cordless drill 18V Hitachi from Screwfix If I need anymore power - well I've got a drill press. If it needs to be more mobile I'll get on of the elCheapo B&Q/Homebase/Wickes SDS drills. Thanks again.
  6. How about a multimeter with a temperature sensor ? Maplins I've got a different model, you could have a play with it at SS if you want
  7. The smoke stayed in my drill, but a nasty smell has escaped, and I suspect I'll need a new one The drill that died was a monster Black and Decker. It was 950+ watts and quite big. If it caught, the torque would break my wrist. So I'm thinking I'll go for something a bit smaller, better access to tight spots would be a bonus. I need a 13mm keyless chuck, and a 0-2500+ speed range, and for a sensible price. Carry case, extra drill bits etc don't add value for me. I'm not really fussed about using it as a powerdriver either. I do some masonary work, virtually no wood wood, mainly drilling steel. I need to do a Screwfix order very soon, so I'm thinking something like this Makita, or Hitachi, or even a Ryobi I've not owned any of those brands, I note the Ryobi is twice the weight of the other two, which might be a drag. Any recommendations ? Ta
  8. Yes please I've not tried calibration in MM, but its easy enough in Ozi-explorer. If I can get it calibrated, I can make the calibration available too. andrew AT marshallsay dot com
  9. Yeah what he said - I've got one too. I've got an air nibbler (Otterbourne) but the compressor isn't movable.
  10. 12.8mm is very close to 1/2" I think I've got a morse-taper 1/2" drill. Wind an old spark-plug in - let it tap its own thread
  11. In this case Silverstone is a brand - not a place
  12. Hmm - that took all of my Googling expertise !! Tricky one "Service and Sport Ltd are the main importer and supplier of Silverstone Competition Tyres in the UK and will, through the very experienced proprietor Jerry Freeman, provide support to competitors from both their Wigan base and on all ten Championship rounds. Contact Jerry Freemen or James Chidgey for details of the Silverstone Competition Tyres range. Tel: 01942 237468. Email: jfreeman@serviceandsport.com or james@serviceandsport.com. Service and Sport Ltd, Unit 2, Hawkley Brook Trading Estate, Worthington Way, Wigan. WN3 6XE" How ya feeling ? I was gonna give you a ring over the weekend
  13. Just need a bit of lateral thought Seems to work for the US post office on their Jeeps
  14. Get a P38A DSE/DT as a donor ? Nice tunable 6-cylinder diesel, choice of manual or diesel. Dunno if the Dlander can take the later style axles though.
  15. Daan - you are a cynical dinah bobblehat wearer We were tuning the fueling on my Ibex with 300TDI lump. The theory was turn up the fuel - check the EGT, turn up the fuel some more, and check again. We did this a couple of times. I cried enough when the engine got really hot, not the water temp, but the engine. My co-driver looked out of the window at the side exit exhaust, and claimed it was like a bunsen burner. EGT's were still high but sensible, but I reckon we were seconds from a melt down. Moral of the story - if the thermocouple isn't in deep enough to the gas flow, you'll get low readings Pulls like a train now though
  16. Congrats on getting the 109 home. However - don't do an Al, and spend the next 10 years on setting up a workshop. How about a marquee ? eBay Up in a couple of hours - job done, finish the 109, then build a workshop at your convience. hope it helps
  17. I've just been flipped a link to The ToolBox Shop They seem to have a resonable range of stuff, and some different stuff to VWP. Never used them and haven't compared prices
  18. Toyotas cost too much money - no way was I paying £5000 for a 1990 Land Cruiser. I've started a thread in the members vehicle section
  19. Interesting debate For my application, they'd have to be over the windscreen, or just a couple of inches behind it. I've got a fully length roof rack, so mounting over the B-pillars is not a option.
  20. Nice bin, glad that didn't get away from you Sorry - Its been a rough week, and I - like HFH have found a friend in the red wine bottle.
  21. Richard is just fitting steel doors to his, to get proper windows. Its a nice touch that the original doors are virtually a bolt on.
  22. Otterbourne - try the Solent and District Land Rover Club - they are always on the look out for members
  23. Bling is always good, but the running of the wires to roof lights is a PITA, would take a good few hours and a mile of cable to do right. I can't see the point in spending a day wiring them up, if I ain't never gonna use 'em.
  24. Well I've just got a roof-rack for my daily driver, and I've got a natty set of Hella lamps kicking around, but I'm wondering if roof-lights are worth the effort. I'm not going to be shooting bunnies at night Its unlikely I'll be doing deep river crossings at night. If I'm lucky I might overland to North Africa, but I've got big driving lights on the front already. I've got 6 on the roof of the Ibex, and TBH, they are just bling. Are they worth the effort ?
