  1. Think you are on the money there Jon. I've heard it is a relatively easy in-car fix. Never seen it written up though.
  2. Can't talk sensibly about the amount of BTU's or whatever the figures are for heat production of V8 vs Transit. But they are some of the most abused vehicles in the world, which is why I chose transit, rather than some of the other options such as VW Corrado which is less likely to have the abuse factor added to the design. Good points though.
  3. Early 1990's disco, so 200TDI, LT230 5-speed manual. When in gear and clutch up, no drive, forward or reverse - props are NOT spinning Bang it into difflock and vehicle jumps forward under drive. As the props aren't spinning, it must be a blown LT230 ? On a road going Disco ?????
  4. Nice one 02 Looks like a pre 94 2.5diesel transit radiator would be the right size. Would this cool a 3.9V8, with a chunky electric fan ? Transits aren't exactly reknown for overheating are they ? I'd guess the figure were matrix size, judging by the Cherokee I was measuring up Only £40 according to the website :-)
  5. Not exactly, they didn't time the last day. Only really the beach parade anyway. A couple of local kids ran into the path of Dakar vehicles and died was the excuse they gave.
  6. Camberly auto factors, are about all I've got locally in terms of motor factors I'll give Wessex Rads a go - nice one. The ali rad will be up for grabs if I can find one a better size. Anyone with an on-line resource ?
  7. Well I spent the weekend spraying, using a combination of all the advice above, not because I know best, but because of what I had to hand, and how much time and effort I was willing to spend Wire wool and white spirit to clean the surface Pressure wash off remnants of wire wool Dry Wipe with etch-primer thinners Etch prime Top coat Remains to be seen if it will last, but as the transport enamel for the top coat isn't even dry after 12hrs, it will be a while before I'm pressure washing it to death. Thanks for al the tips
  8. Jules don't post the Dakar results here Well at least not in the subject line, I've been recording it for Astro_al As he is stuck in Paris, he won't get to see it for a couple of week, dont want to ruin the surprise for him. Yeah of course they have coverage in France, but first you have to have a televsion........
  9. The fancy ali rad I've bought for MogLite is a bit too tall for its new location at the back of the vehicle. Is there an on-line resource of radiator sizes and inlets/outlets ? Landie Radiators are too tall Jeep Cheroke are too wide Vauxhall Nova are just too damn small and I'd rather not drop £500 on a custom one if I can help it
  10. Have you seen the way the TonkGripper is mounted on the back of my Ibex ? I can't find the piccies at the moment
  11. Much smaller and lighter than that picture will be a quad bike Not road legal - doubt anyone will let you compete on the current challenge scene, due to insurance complications
  12. I contributed to remain independant, is that going to be refunded if the forum sells out I don't see why journo's should get a free ride. FWIW - I explictly don't give permission for ANYTHING I have written to go into print.
  13. Stick a couple of these in a suitcase, and bring 'em back for me. http://www.desertrat.com/webb_usa/bcs_webb.htm Awesome - no more spilled drinks
  14. Looking very nice there Al Defiantely crying out for a set of 255/85x16 BFG muds to finish it off. How much did the fridge cost/weigh. I'd like to bring one of those back, next time I'm in Aus When you going bush ?
  15. Nige - Brilliant - an on-topic post. For all you thread hi-jackers out there - carry on I'm going to stick with the stock EFI system, for the moment. Its all there on MogLite, and just needs wiring, I've got a spare 3.9 Rangie in the back-garden should I need to compare and contrast. I probably will go MS in the future, but with ignition and nitrous
  16. Some great options, thanks. Jon - where do you get phosphoric acid then ?
  17. I've just tried - no good
  18. Well I'm at that stage, where I need to start the wiring, so if I'm going to go Megasquirt, then now is the time. All your points are valid, except the laptop, which will already be on-board for in-car navigation. The upgrade path to distributorless ignition, and nitrous control, appeal more that the basic product. Yeah my V8 is stock bar air-filter and zorst, so the stock stuff won't be far off. I've had a sniff around the completed auctions on eBay, and its true, the bits don't seem to go for that much, certainly not enough to make it an economic decision
  19. I'm thinking of going to Megasquirt What sort of price could I expect to sell my 3.9 air-flow meter and ECU for ? Need to recoup some of the cost, otherwise its a non-starter (pun not intended)
  20. I'm going to paint some of MogLites chequer plate satin black. I'm going to spray etch-primer and then satin black transport enamel. How do I prep the 2nd hand plate for paint, obviously I can't sand it I was thinking a bit of a scub with wirewool, maybe with some sugar soap to clean and de-grease. Any thoughts ?
  21. What with that pro version and the DIY versions that are around, seems like locking wheelnuts are pretty much a waste of time
  22. Dave That seems the one, infomap as in the other link but a bunch cheaper I'll give your bro a shout next week. After a raft of unreliable Garmin GPS's over the last 12+ years, they'll never get any more of my money. As for PDA, as I've got a Panasonic Toughbook Sub-notebook, no need to down-grade I've also used the printed instruction stuff, fine for motorways etc, but trying to find a house in an unfamiliar estate, and it just don't cut the mustard, better off with a conventional map.
  23. I've got Autoroute 2005 running on a laptop for in-car navigation. Its a great concept, but AR2005 is pretty buggy, and AR2006 is no better. AR2005 doesn't offer voice prompts, or tell you that you are approaching a junction etc, so its not a patch on the dedicated SatNavs that Halfords etc sell. I want the route-finding and postcode features, so whilst memory map and Ozi-Explorer are great, they are not very good at finding an address and planning a route. Is there a better solution for an XP laptop, I don't want to go to PDA or dedicated sat-nav unit.
  24. Good job you've got more than 20 posts - otherwise the mods would have to delete this from the C L A S S I F I E D F O R U M Seems I've lost my driver in that little shake up too So if there is anyone that needs a winch bitch - and doesn't mind being shouted at and generally bossed around - I'm ya man. Novice or trophy hunter I'm not proud, but I'd rather it was someone that didn't cry when the slindon trees win the battle against bodywork - well not for too long anyway
  25. Clays - its too freakin' cold to be standing around in a field - spring sounds good to me
