  1. A lot of magazines have a readers wives section....... Oh hell, I'm in so much trouble...... Forget coat...... Run for the door...... Go back for passport......no place to hide
  2. and now with lb/ft cause I'm old fashioned like that For property class 8.8 bolts (proof load stress = 660 MPa): Bolt Tension, Torque M5 5.4 kN, 5 Nm 3.7 lb/ft M6 7.6 kN 9 Nm 6.6 lb/ft M8 13.8 kN, 22 Nm 16.2 lb/ft M10 21.9 kN 44 Nm 32.5 lb/ft M12 31.8 kN 77 Nm 56.8 lb/ft M16 59.2 kN 190 Nm 140.1 lb/ft For propert class 10.9 bolts: Bolt, Tension, Torque M5 7.67 kN 8 Nm 5.9 lb/ft M6 10.86 kN 13 Nm 9.6 lb/ft M8 19.76 kN 32 Nm 23.6 lb/ft M10 31.27 kN 63 Nm 46.5 lb/ft M12 45.5 kN 109 Nm 80.4 lb/ft M16 84.5 kN 270 Nm 199.1 lb/ft Seems I've been over-torqueing my 8.8 M8's, M10's and M12's
  3. Close Tony - but no cigar This one and for AndyB Here is a link to the pillar drill I bought, and where I bought it from Pillar drill Well impressed by the company and the product - cheaper than eBay, and free delivery for me when I bought it.
  4. I'm planning to leave the steering standard at the moment. I might get lucky and it might be okay !! Well I believe the arm on the axle is longer, so there is potentially more leverage. There is an article on Pirate about how to drill out the pump for more power I'm also considering fitting a hydro assist ram from the panhard mount on the steering box to the track rod. Windscreen wipers - PMSL :) Weight - hoping for 2000kgs kitted up on 44's - thats with 400kgs of wheels and tyres !!
  5. Honestly - no - I hate the bloody stuff !! But I've got a load of 6mm, and I bought 16 sheets of 2mm from a shop refitters, so it beats paying for smooth stuff. All the rest of the panelling is going to be smooth, and all the exterior panels satin black'd to tone it down a bit. Anyone want to swap some smooth for chequer ?
  6. I'm really waiting to get it outside, to take some proper pictures. Here is some panel work - before I ripped it all off for paint Battery box - yes its a good idea, and some of the regs will insist upon it. Its a while off yet though.
  7. Those piccies are a bit out of date Bulkhead is started to be fitted up currently too Get steering finished, and then cable up the handbrakes, and I can wheel it into the fresh air for pictures, and getting an exhaust fitted.
  8. I'm making the steering bars for MogLite at long last. The front one needs to go from RangeRover steering box, to Unimog track rod. Don't like spending out on Merc bits, so I'm using a 3/4" rose joint, at the axle end. Drilling out the taper on the steering arm to accept a 3/4" bolt wasn't too bad, but using 3/4" drills is pretty scary. However the drag link (a sumo bar) needed boring out ~2mm so it could be tapped for 3/4" UNF. It took about 1/2 an hour to setup the pillar drill I used a 15mm drill as a guide to get the bar in the right position, and then bored it out with a 16mm to check and then the final 11/16's. Very satisfying But tapping 3/4" UNF into a sumo bar is bloody hard work - blunt tap or hard steel or a combination of both, but it gets you warmed up for sure. Drag link next......
  9. So what were they ? No, I'm not interesting in the normal cr@p of giving up alcohol/food/ladies of the night Whose got anything interesting on their plans for 2006 ? Apart from getting MogLite finished, I'm thinking about getting back into rallying, from the navigators point of view. Nothing too serious, 12-cars and night scatters etc. I'd really like to go to Iceland 4x4'ing but don't think I'm gonna be able to pull that one off just yet. Need to get another 4x4 as a daily driver, but can't talk about that on here (T****a L***C******) Nothing earth shattering there, so looking for ideas.
  10. A mate of mine has got an early Disco 200tdi. Its just blown the gearbox - sounds like a mainshaft The car only owes him £1100 so he's reluctant to spend 1/2 as much again on a gearbox. Ashcrofts obviously have a good reputation, and their prices are fair in my opinion, but he is looking for a cheaper option. Anyone tried a box from these people TM Transmissions I know you get what you pay for, but he is not expecting to get 100,000 out of the rest of the car, so a lesser spec box will be fine. Whats the book time for changing a box ? 'bout 5 hours ? Or anyone got a good 2nd hand one, either close to me in Hampshire, or to him in Boston Lincs ?
  11. Yeah I think I've got that .... So that makes it this one ? Spool Valve
  12. Nige I'll give you a bell a bit later - its early for some at the moment, and I've had a lie-in and done my 2hr commute already Pictures - of the cylinder ? Described as SMC PNEUMATIC DOUBLE ACTING SINGLE ROD CYLINDER PART NO - CDG1BN32-75 32mm BORE 75mm STROKE
  13. I'm gonna try and do an air-actuated PTO lever. I've got myself a suitable cylinder - dual action, which I assume will push and pull. As far as I can tell, there are just two ports on the cylinder - a push and a pull. I want a spool valve that is detent'd so that one position is PTO engaged, and the other is dis-engaged But the spool valves make no sense to me, 2 position detent I've got, but 3 ports/ 5 ports I've got no idea. I can get this range local from Hypose Can anyone tell me which one I need, and why ? I need to do the lockers on the 'Mog axles in a similar way, so I might as well get my head around the pneumatics stuff.
  14. Nice one Ali From the man that has always said everything has its price. You'll have it sold, and be driving a Toyota within a year !!
  15. Some misc ramblings A 2" pipe has a cross sectional area of ~20sq cm A 3" pipe has a cross sectional area of ~45sq cm - more than double Using Al's 13,500 litres per minute at full chat The air-speed through the snorkel of 17km/h which whilst fast doesn't sound un-reasonable. A bog stock 3.5 running maybe 5,000rpm has a trumpet on the air-intake thats what ? Maybe 1.5" across
  16. If it was painted as a Paris Dakar style truck it would look 100% better
  17. The way your going I might be driving it before you get you 90 out of customs It fits out of the garage easy enough I've got the springs out for working on the roof - only takes a few minutes for the springs to come out Jules - I did ask about the AFM before - seems the 3.9's which I've got will be fine.
  18. Well thanks for the suggestions. I've had a play around, and it seems I can get a pair of 4' waffles over the engine too (these are my Ibex waffles and are 3' long) As for mounting, I think I'll copy the hi-lift mount with a 12mm stud pointing vertically The handwheels are an absolute winner, easier than wingnuts, and pretty quick. Throwing the waffles on the studs without fixings should be enough to get to the end of a stage, if its against the clock, or screwing down 1-4 handwheels will keep them secure. Now who does the best price for waffles in grey and do I need 50mm ? Shame the rad looks really vuneralble at the back
  19. Just as I got the telescope setup .....along came the cloud Nice spot anyway - thanks Tony
  20. I got one too. Had a quick browse through it. Apart from the military 109 that I'd not seen before - same old tat. ......return to sender...... However LRM was pretty good this month. Only a 1/4 page Scrapiron advert. Loads of events including Ladoga 2005. That was the first mag I've bought for a year or two (Landie anyway) as TOR seems to be impossible to get without a subscription I've just subscribed to Dirt Sports Mag 26USD delivered to my door for 12 issues Shame other US mags I've subscribed to have gone bust after a couple of issues
  21. Hmmm - interesting - I'll have to have a look when I get home. I think the rear shocks have got that area, but their placement isn't finalised yet.
  22. Yeah I know where you are comming from. I might do a set of mounts on the side at a later date. But its going to be touch and go if I can get a 4' waffle on the side. Dolly can't use the c-section idea, it will permanently increase the height, and make the garage out of bounds
  23. Not my job - thats my vertically challenged co-drivers job I'm building in grab-handles and steps as we speak. Bonnet and roof etc are all designed to be walked on if necessary. Its not that tall currently - a few inches lower than the Ibex. But the big tyres have yet to go on. Its not ideal but its the only place I can put them.
  24. Dolly - yeah they were great - next time you are out in Eastern Europe, can you get me a couple of sets ? Even with those, they still need securing to the roof some how, and preferably quick'ish release. Gelf - you got a PM - thanks Andy
