  1. I've never balanced my Simex, and I've not had any problems, on Mach 5's and beadlock'd Wolf's Reckon on a life of 10,000 miles I reckon +-20% They'll last for a long time used like that.
  2. Looking good there I always thing Malaysia when I see those wheels Double-check you under diff clearance can you, when you get a minute. MogLite on 37's is 17", yet you say it maybe 2 feet, the drops on the volvo axles look possibly a bit deeper than 'Mog, but not 7" different.
  3. I bought a project lathe a while back - a Colchester Chipmaster. However in order to change the motor and speed controller, I needed a lathe to make the bits for my lathe, a viscious circle, so I gave up and sold it on.

  5. Holy lack of articulation Batman Actually thats damn good for a soft-roader IMHO, despite the articulation. I think the things on the roof are sensors/cameras for a competiton were there is no driver in the vehicle, and its piloted by sensors/software - like the truck in Fridge's other post. 2 min for my download BogBuster. My downloaded 4x4 video collection now fills a DVD (4.5GB) - if you want me to burn you a DVD-R - just flick me a PM with an address.

Trev - I so want to try the keeping the take-away warm on the back seat As for beer coolers, I have a big 12V cooler - it will get positively lost in the boot. Fridge - dunno about dents in the doors But parking sensors are high on the list - the damn thing is 9" longer than a 110 - as is a towbar. I always though Police use the best cars, and thats a good benchmark, but now you see them in everything. SD1 Rovers, and Classic Rangie jam sandwiches - those were the days. I'm just gutted I have had chance to play with the xenon headlamps yet - never had those before.

My daily driver 91 Classic Rangie has been driven into the back garden, as it has been replaced - its fate to be determined I bought the Rangie about 18 months ago as a tow-car for the Ibex and MogLite, as well as a daily-driver and general purpose estate car. But as I no longer need a tow-car the Rangie is kinda overkill, especially as we already have a p38a in the family. Running two thirsty V8's whilst never a problem, has p155ed me off when parts chasing around the country. For example I needed today to pick up some Unimog wheels - a 150 mile round trip. The wheels only cost £47 but would cost me the same again in fuel to go and get them - which really winds me up The Rangie having a fuel leak this morning, was the last straw. So I sent about finding a replacement. I ignorned eBay (much to the surprise of those that know me) I turned up a Vauxhall Omega 2.5 Elite Estate locally 1998 manual, with 290,000 miles on the clock Yes I said 290,000 I took it for a drive and it was fine, interior was good as new, exterior was straight, albeit with some stone-chips, drove and looked much like a 100K car. Its a BMW 2.5 6-cylinder, similar to the p38 diesel I believe. Being impulsive, within 30 minutes it was parked outside my house, within the hour, it was off collecting aforemention Unimog Rims. Interesting to compare top of the Range 1998 p38a versus top of the range 1998 Vauxhall. Rangie is a much classier interior Vauxhall has more buttons - heated rear seats and multi-position sunroof for example Both seem about the same kind of performance One does 18mpg, one does 35 !! Both are nice to drive Heating/ventilation is /much/ superior on Rangie Anyway enough waffling - it needs some Shire LRC stickers and some all-terrains - but here are some piccies
  8. They are good and helpful - but not cheap. They are only a mile from my parents place, so I've used 'em quite a bit. They'll do mail order if pressed.

  10. Niall I hear you - and I do have space for an LPG tank. But it still sounds like a lot of faffing around. I'm edging towards a diesel car
  11. All true - but safety is more important, and a rear Husky isn't as GTI as a front 8274 anyway As for cable - I've got the biggest stuff VWP sell Connectors I tend to semi-crimp in the vice, and then solder - how's that for edging your bets
  12. Les Dunno the make of the switches - its a military one, well the mounting box is camo, so thats what I assume. There certainly does look like there is scope for changing the operation. I'll post a picture tonight when I get home. Hopefully - cause change-over relays are making my head hurt ! Andy
  13. Les - not quite - but I'm on Coffee number two With the push switches, I only want to cut power to the solenoid, and to the low-tension on the coil. Figuring with a dead engine, and a dead winch, its pretty safe. I've had to fit a "motorsports" style battery cut-off which handles the alternator and resisitor side of things, but isn't capable of handling winch amperage.
  14. When I bought my Ibex, it had an M8000CE. As part of the CE package it had an extra external solenoid in line with the main power feed to the winch. This acted as an isolator instead of a battery cut-off switch. A better option than a melting cheapo cut off switch, or £50 on a proper cut off switch IMHO, although I did add a proper cut-off switch on the Ibex as a fail-safe This has worked well for many years, and I intend doing the same for the rear Husky on MogLite. I'm going to use the original solenoids that came with the Husky, as they are spare after an Albright upgrade. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for Husky solenoids, they are just two cans, and different from the Warn solenoids I'm used to. I figure if I mount up the entire solenoid pack, I'll have spares should they mis-behave. I've got two "emergency stop" push button switches that I'm going to mount on the front and rear. When pushed the switch breaks one circuit, and makes another. The push to break circuit I plan to connect to the low-tension side of the coil to kill the engine. I'd like to use the push to make side of the switches to kill the rear winch if pushed. But the switch logic is wrong. Can I use a change-over relay or something so that when the circuit is made, power is removed from the solenoid. There are probably gonna be lots of electrical questions over the next few months. But I'm currently (excuse the pun) designing the wiring diagram in Microsoft Visio, and I'll make the diagrams available for re-use and comments.
  15. I crashed my Sierra 4x4 about 4 years ago - well I seem to crash any Ford I own. The RAC recovered me no questions asked. They've also recovered my Ibex after broken CV's and diffs - again no questions. They've also dealt with the more conventional flat batteries etc with no real issues. My all singing premium is pretty steep at £140 a year though. About 10-15 years ago the AA were anti greenlanes - thats when I discounted them

  18. My nearest LPG station is about a 15 mile round trip away from my house. As opposed to conventional filling stations which I pass every day. So using a gallon of LPG and 1/2 hour just to fill up is going to needle me badly. If the range is poor, then that is only going to be worse. I use my Rangie as an estate car mostly, so I need the boot space. Undersill tanks I thought were small unless you fit 4, and I'm not even sure that is possible. Also - if anything I'd like to make the car simpler from a maintenance perspective, rather than doubling up on fuel systems. I had my 300TDI camel disco tuned by Van Aaken, and wasn't overly impressed, never had a big intercooler though. My various Ibex TDI's have been tuned at home, plenty of power, but no economy. Andy
  19. I've got a 1991 Classic SE, which I love. But the age old problem of fuel consumption keeps niggling at me, and the voices in my head say "buy a car" Especially as the wife has a 38a - two gas guzzlers seem an extravagence. Rather than a car, the thread on the international board about Isuzu engines got me thinking. So what are my options ? Low-tech perkins etc - nah Large Cummins/GMC - nah Rover TDI - they are fine, but by the time you tweak the pump, fuel economy isn't that great. LPG is not an option I'd want to keep PAS and Aircon, but I'd sacrafice the cruise control, the Classic is a 3.9 auto and I'd want to hook up to the auto box. I currently get 14-19mpg, and I'd like to get that into the 25-35 range if possible, whilst keeping it nippy around town, and being able to cruise at an easy 75. Don't want much do I ?
  20. Tony - thanks - yeah I'm really pleased the way it looks, and how small it is Its currently lower than my Ibex. Al - paintwork - well getting all the surface rust, and cleaning up the welds was a lot of work, and a bit of paint slapped on did my ego wonders !! I'm only brush painting bits that will be tricky to get to later. Once finished I'll spray the cage and the panels. Jez - yeah I hope to be driving it in January. Oh for those that are confused by - the acronym WBBSC Its We Build Big Stupid Cars, a little group of like minded individuals. Mandy - thanks, but I've got my heart set on a nice Blingy set of Luke harnesses in grey/silver. 02GF74 - As Al said rad position has changed to this Not that I've made any brackets etc for it yet. I've got a powerful 14" fan to go on the rad, and I've got another to extract vertically from the engine bay. The rad is an all ali rad designed for a 7litre US ford, so I'm hoping not to have to use too much in the way of ducting.
  21. Here it is MogLite I'm carp at keeping secrets, and as a thank you to all of you out there that have helped with parts, advice and general p155 taking and I'd appreciate any feedback and yes with a few psi out of the tyres, it will roll out of the garage without problems
  22. I've heard a rumour that will a little effort you can use vacuum diff lock actuator on an LT230 I've also heard that it can run on compressed air rather than vacuum. I'm trying to reduce the number of levers MogLite will eventually have, so if I can get the central diff-lock air powered that would be a bonus. Anyone know LT95's ? Anyone got one going spare ? Anyone got a biscuit to go with this cup of coffee ?
  23. Those low profile lights you show, are NAS lights, as fitted to amongst other things - my Ibex. They are expensive for what they are, and come with crappy modern connectors. If I were you I'm mount a couple of series lights in a rubber/ali panel. But keep the regular lights for MOT/road trips. Mainly cause I think it will look pretty low-rent on a nice Rangie like yours.
  24. Out of the 59 punches we managed to collect 55 at the end of the day One we forgot to log the position of !! The one in the mud run near the digger compound was driven over as was one in the reed beds The other I forget. I've got a cheesy map of the GPS points with some landmarks that show where all the punches were if anyone is interested.
