  1. Beautiful I flew in a BA VC10 once (from Baghdad to London) - on the runway it went off like a sports car compared to the bus-like feeling of the (then fairly new) Jumbo that I had used for the first part of the journey from Delhi. Lovely aircraft... I don't know... Spitfire, Tempest, Hunter, Lightening, TSR2, VC10, E-type, Land Rover, Jensen FF, Jaguar MkII, BSA Rocket 3, Vincent Black Lightening, Velocette Thruxton, BSA Gold Star, 997 Mini Cooper, Lotus Elan (original), Lotus 7, etc etc etc. All of them real engineering designed by real people and all achingly beautiful. None of them would get past a modern accountant with his 'return-on-investment' analysis... Where did we go wrong? Sorry to wander off topic like that, but I reckon that everybody that reads the above list will go misty-eyed about something on there. Remember when you were ten and you had that sectioned drawing that you would stare at for hours? I still do Rog
  2. Not quite that big, but how about an H83 ammo box? - if you could squeeze it in there you'd have a totally waterproof (as long as you proof the holes that you make for wires...) and very tough container for less than £10 Anchor Supplies say this: Bolted to the floor they make great safes... ideal to keep your valuables safe and secure. Details: External dimensions: 300 x 155 x 185 mm (approx 12" x 6" x 7.5") Internal dimensions: 280 x 140 x 175 mm ( approx 11.5" x 5.5" x 7") Weight : 3kg Construction: Fully welded seam Galvanized Steel Finish: Brown Gloss or Olive Green Fitted Rubber seal on inner lid which is compressed to seal the box when shut Lie Flat handle permits easy carrying. VERY Rugged and Durable... Should last a Lifetime Rog
  3. I think it will be hot and dusty by the time the Rust Rover is finished.. Rog
  4. S'alright anyway because in my excitement at buying the ratchet spanners I forgot about the 6mm socket but I got it with a normal screwdriver in the end Rog
  5. I've got no boot floor as well ! Rog
  6. Hmm nice ideas chaps - but I can only dream of those heady days when I will finally start it up, you see I've got no radiator and no fuel tank on it at the mo.. Had another depressing day - the hole I spotted yesterday under the front inner wing turned out to be a really complex piece of chopping out leaving me with the prospect of rebuilding all around the front body mount and the lower bit of the headlamp box... Off to raid the local fabricator's scrap bin tomorrow... Still - I found a way to cheer myself up - I went and bought some tools :) :) :) I feel better now Got myself a set of Halfords Professional ratchet spanners - I was tempted by the big socket set (what a bargain!) but at the end of the day the only socket I don't already have (as I discovered today) is a 6mm one. What did I need a 6mm socket for I hear you say? Why to hold the screwdriver bit at the end of 3 extensions when undoing the bottom hose Thanks again for the suggestions Feeling fine again now and looking forward to tomorrow. Rog
  7. Well your html appears sound, so assuming you haven't changed any settings at home (like directing them to junkmail - or blocking them in some way) then I guess you will have to wait until your SP returns on Monday. Don't worry though, from my experience you probably won't have actually lost any emails - they will still be there waiting to be picked up . In the mean-time, if you are worried about not seeing essential mails then you could just change the mailto to send the mails direct to your AOL account, bypassing the SP altogether... Rog
  8. Had six hours working on the RRRC (Rusty RRC) yesterday and hardly achieved anything. It seems that my impetus has leaked out through the new set of holes that I discovered behind the headlight... So I was wondering what other people do to re-motivate themselves in those times when they look at the project vehicle and it all looks too big a job and it's one step forward and two back and it's cold and it's raining and you're all alone and you're working on the front drive so you have to put the tools away before even nipping in for a leak and it's raining and.. Oh, did that bit... C'mon chaps - Any suggestions please to get me up and at 'em again! Decent pictures of RRCs doing amazing things might help Rog
  9. I know the feeling - if I had the sole intention of doing RTV trials then there is no way I would have bought the RRC in the first place, and if driven by pure economics then I would have scrapped it months ago bought something more suitable. It's just that I had it lying around and I thought it would be interesting to have a play with it. Don't think I'll be trying to engineer my own 4 valve heads though Rog
  10. Hope it goes well - Looking forward to the pics Rog
  11. I am SO pathetic The biggest thing I ever towed was a Jaguar XJ6 that was stuck in the middle of a rugby pitch... I drive around all day when it snows with my boot full of tow-ropes, tyre-chains, shovels, warm gear etc and nobody ever needs assistance! A bit like the fact that if you take an umbrella it will never rain... Rog
  12. I think that the 'height sensor' is purely a mechanical/hydraulicy thing and is internal to the unit. The only way to modify the ride height on these units (I believe) is to modify the mountings (as said) Boge have produced ride-height adjustable units, but not AFAIK for Range Rovers. Rog
  13. must'v been a good holiday..
  14. There's a pretty good description of the function of the unit at click As I understand it, the unit, even when in the 'relaxed' state, still has significantly high pressure inside and no attempt should be made to dismantle it. Also (obviously) you shouldn't apply heat to it!. Rog
  15. Ahh! (light goes on) for years I have been wondering what that tune selection resistor does... So is this another point that would need checking in case of troublesome running symptoms - that the tune resistor is ok? Rog
  16. I reckon most LR4x4 forumeers could knock that up from a std ltwt in a couple of hours eh? Looks a bit like a Hummer (pass the spittoon, Dick... shpahh! shpahh!) Imagine the conversation: I want chicks - cool! I want explosions - big! I want military vehicles - black! <pause> Barney! What in the name of sweet tarnation is THAT? Boss - it's a lightweight Land Rover - for many years a key military vehicle in the British forces.... But sh-t, Barney - THAT thing don't even LOOK like a Hummer! ... Barney - make it look like a REAL military vehicle willya! Rog
  17. These can also be used to control two devices that need separate feeds but need to be switched together for some reason - although I can't think of any such application on a vehicle... Rog
  18. Follow the instructions here: free counter They do a load of other stats too if you want it...
  19. If you want to watch the whole thing (bit boring tho) goto: Rog
  20. I LIKE the relay idea - think I'll do that... I could wire it to cut-out the fuel pump and have it triggered by the brake lights - then the routine is ign on, dab the brakes, operate starter... An additional benefit is that all of the wiring will be under the boot floor, well out of sight of prying eyes... P.O.P. I reckon Rog Edit: On further thought maybe reversing lights would be a better 'trigger'.
  21. try whacking open the throttle on a big Yam at 6000 RPM (still with 6000 rpm of the rev-range to go remember) and you will see what 'meaningful torque' is! Surely all you would need to do is... Nahh nobody is going to listen Hat, coat, head down, gone. Rog
  22. D'oh! you beat me too it.. Rog
  23. You will probably find that your provider has some instructions on how to set up Outlook Express so that it auomatically does a "send & receive" on your site email server every few minutes while you are on line... I have just sent an email to Paul@transylvania4x4tours.com and it hasn't 'bounced' yet so I think it's set up ok (in actual fact an email sent to anything - any name, numbers etc - anything except certain (not permitted) characters followed by @transylvania4x4tours.com will get to your email account. I have occasionally got mails addressed to the likes of RogerTheShrubber@RogerWatkinson.com and other 'amusing' names ) Once you have everything set up though, you MUST print out all details of setups, providers, accounts, passwords etc etc and keep it somewhere safe. Always bear in mind (especially since your intention is to run a business) what would happen if your hard-drive went POP and you had to set it all up again on a virgin machine It's a brave new world out there - GO FOR IT :) Rog
  24. :) :) WOW! - it's great! Now you need a few links... Rog p.s. I noticed that your mailto is directed at your AOL account - you should think about using the email facilities that will almost certainly be provided by you web provider, then you can have Paul@transylvania4x4tours.com (or similar) which IMHO looks more professional...
