  1. Works now mate! http://www.transylvania4x4tours.com/ (although I think it needs some links!) Rog
  2. When does the message come up? This wot I ave done may help a little: http://www.rogerwatkinson.com/LR4X4_Pics/FTP.htm Rog
  3. Err This kinda made me shudder since my (very long term) plan it to make my RRC into a pickup - anyone know a difinitive answer on this? Rog
  4. Following your lead I enlarged it further and noticed a small sea-bird flying past No! back to topic - I noticed no exhaust bubbles, no door-wide-open from bailing out, and some strange pixelation effects around both the vehicle and the bloke on the beach... hmmmm Rog
  5. If using a socket on a hex-drive jubilee clip, remind yourself that these things are intended to be done up just to the torque that can be applied by a slot blade screw-driver. Don't over tighten it... Rog
  6. Any idea what lead up to this? After all the water is so clear that you can see the depth... I was wondering if it was due to getting caught by a rising tide perhaps? Rog
  7. Looks great! It makes such a difference! Are you really thinkin of doing it or just musing? rog edit: D'Oh! didn't notice this was nearly a year old...
  8. To paraphrase my nephew: It's a Land Rover mate - my crumple-zones are on the other car Hope everyone is ok. Rog
  9. Hmmm - how about on a stormy night, with the windows misted up, half way through a twenty-six point turn to get out of a full pub car-park... Got three feet clearance to that Mercedes? Good. Right. Here we go: 1. Start the engine in neutral and set the steering. 2. Engine off and engage a gear (1st or reverse as required). 3. Crank the starter and then hard on the brakes to stall it quick before it hits the Merc. 4. Repeat from 1. How we larfed NOT. Rog
  10. My nephew was refused insurance because he fitted a roll cage - when he said "surely I've made it safer?", he was told that he would have affected the vehicle's crumple zones. his reply was witty, but still didn't get the insurance: "It's a Series Landrover mate, my crumple zones are on the OTHER car!"
  11. I expect that they need all that power to fuel factories making big screen TVs for sale in the west Rog
  12. Had to jump through hoops a bit, but I just went to the BBC site, read the article and then complained about it... This from the bloke that drinks bad wine rather than 'make a fuss' ! Rog
  13. I met a German in Egypt once - on his way back home from a lo-o-ong tour of Africa - after loosing the bolt and chozzling (good word that !) the keyway in the middle of nowhere, he had the bottom pulley welded on; reasoning that the crank was sh*gged anyway so when he got somewhere he could get a new one (i.e. Europe in those days) he would grind the pulley off and there you go. IIRC it had lasted several months when I met him.... Here though - I think getting the keyway repaired is a more senible option... BTW - why IS that bolt so big? Rog
  14. Forgive my higgorance if I should know this already, but any thoughts as to why? Rog
  15. Hi Steve, Good tip - definitely one to remember... A nice one for the Land Rover Technical Archive perhaps? Rog
  16. I'll cross mine for you too.. AAARGH! THAT's gonna hurt come the cold weather ! Rog
  17. Loops are a good idea - I once had a brake pipe repeatedly break on an overland trip to India in a 2A - after replacing it as accurately as I could three or four times, I finally put a loop in and had no more trouble... Yes I thought that this would be the case, but seeing as my thoughts were based on A level physics of 35 years ago, it's nice to have confirmation My brother-in-law had his on the towball drop-plate and it was certainly very convenient, but I still fancy the higher fitment... and: Only my filler pipe would be high, any leaks in this area would drain down the plastic sheath, through the bayonet-cap thing and out of the outlet sheath (that WILL point downwards), so hopefully I'll be ok. I like the video - what caused the brake problem? Thanks for the detailed reply - it's certainly a comfort to accumilate information on here before cutting metal! Think Thrice Measure Twice Cut Once Should perhaps be Think Thrice Measure Twice Check it on LR4x4 Cut Once Roger
  18. Certainly would be interested - but it's a lot of trouble for you to post it - I was thinking of one close enough for me to collect... But if you are sure you don't mind, then how much would you want for it (including compensation for your time & P&P)? Roger
  19. Great idea - nice and high AND under cover. But due to my desired tank location and the (maybe misguided) wish to keep the pipe short, the vent cover is not an option. My latest thinking is plumb centre of this bracket: Now - has anyone got an old rear offside outer wing with a high filler that I could canibalise? The rest of the wing other than the flap is immaterial... I could pick up near to Leeds... Rog
