  1. We can sort all this carp out. It's been discussed, and it's what everyone wants. This could all go wrong, so lets get on with it. Les.
  2. I have to say that current events are to say the least confusing and in my opinion, not good. We now have two forums, and folk are posting on both. The original idea was to get the LRE archive material if possible and then move onto our own website, funded by us and controlled by agreed moderators/admin. Too much has been going on without us all knowing, and at least the rest of the moderators should have been kept informed of what was going on behind the scenes. Suddenly being back here with what is in effect, LRE watching what we post, is not a good thing. We could at very short notice, set our own, member-funded website, transfer everything over to it, and that would be the end - we would have our own 'home', with no ties to anyone and answerable to no-one but ouselves. Tony Cordell has in the past offered to be the forum treasurer, and I trust him. In fact anyone that knows him will know that he can be trusted. So..........he could set up a forum account within a very short time, there are plenty of you that have offered to donate what you can afford, so I doubt very much that there would be a problem from that quarter. We already have our own site, currently provided by Geoff Beaumont, it can be tailored for our needs, and could easily be our permanent home, which is what everyone of us want. Trevor has managed to salvage the LRE archive material, so we have that as well. The parts of the puzzle are in our hands, we can do it within a couple of weeks or so with a bit of organisation. There are a whole host of people that frequent LRA that are happy to contribute thier particular skills, cheap, or for free, to keep our very knowledeable community together. Forum Stickers T-shirts Forum account Web design. And anything else that needs doing. This is all we need to do and we are totally independent, which is what we all want. Please post your views on here. I'll copy this onto LRA, so reply on there if you prefer. Les.
  3. Could be the pump bearings Tony. Get someone to hold it on full lock so that it rattles, and put your hand on the pump body. If it is the bearings you'll feel it through the pump casing. Les.
  4. The snow plough has gone to kent (with Rogue Trooper), attached is a twin turbo v8 engine to clear the vast amounts of snow they don't get in Kent. Simple really. Les.
  5. Well here's the few pictures that I took. Just to clarify a couple of points:- My 'new girlie' ? I don't think so. Much too scary for me. so the picture of me 'looking happy' is actually 'me looking scared' M005, I was very happy about stepping aside for you m8, as well as Scotty, Darthdicky?, anyone else? Tony/Val. it was an excellent weekend and I enjoyed it very much. You both obviously worked hard to make it as much fun as it was. My first winch challenge and I would do it again, in spite of the aches/pains/hole in the palm of my hand. Thanks for the loan of a tent Tony, thanks for feeding me Fiona. Sorry everyone for turning up in a crappy Pug 309 Here's the few pictures I took. The day was hard work, but very enjoyable. Anyone that hasn't tried this, then I reccomend you do at least once. Here's the pics anyway. A bit crowded at first, but it was interesting to see the different approach people took to get the punch - drive in and then figure out how to get back out again! Standing your truck on it's nose or tail seems to be the best way to get the punch. 'Cmon then, it's only a small river bank! Just stopping for a smoke! This was punch 49. A clever arrangement of two winch cables saw our team get this one first. Going almost vertical is a bit scary though. Over the worst bit, although going down backwards must have been as bad. Nice axle twister here, some punches looked easy, but quite often were absolute swines. That's all the pictures I took. Lots of people asked about catflapII, and it was slightly embarrassing to be in a horrible Eurobox. Hopefully the next meet I go to will be in him. Les.
  6. If you only get bue smoke when you 'blip' the throttle (overrun), then generally oil is getting into one or more of the cylinders through the valve guide(s) caused through worn valve stem oil seals. Les.
  7. Doesn't the thermostat have a bleed valve in it, so you would still get an accurate temperature reading if it's shut?? Les.
  8. I've got one for a Warn XD9000 you can borrow if you want? I'll bung it in the motah anyway just in case. Les.
  9. Happy Birthday Tony. Come on, spill the beans, how many candles? Les.
  10. It'll not work Steve, Richard Green will still track you down! Les.
  11. Sounds disgusting to me anyway. Les.
  12. Well since 'that' magazine forums closed, the members of this one has pretty-much doubled. 422 as of 10:30pm this wed evening. Very impressive too, and a lot of new names that I don't recognise from the old site. Earlier today there were a total of 60 members online, which is the current record. I can't believe you all have the same job as Mark90. Les.
  13. I don't think that replacing a leaf sprung chassis with a coil sprung one should make any difference as you are not altering the shape of the chassis as such, but the suspension of the vehicle. Its quite common to bolt or weld on brackets to chassis' to add other items (standard or not) , such as twin shocks (no points problem), some types of winch (again no points problem). Changing the suspension type of your vehicle should be (within the law) a matter between you and your insurance company. Les.
  14. I'm putting the TD engine in catflapII today and as a means of keeping an eye on things, I was wondering if it's ok to fit the glass filter bowl type lift pump to this engine instead of the standard item. This way any air leaks in the system from the tank to the pump would be easy to detect. Does anyone know if the pump will fit the 90 2.5TD engine? I recall in the past someone posting that a petrol lift pump is weaker than a diesel one? I can't see that that's right, but I don't have my parts book to reference part numbers. I'm also going to start fabricating the exhaust and have bought 4m of 60mm pipe. I was going to do a straight through system, but I'm not too sure about noise levels at higher revs, have any of you got this exhaust on your motor and what route did you take please? Thanks. Les.
  15. I can tell you Dave, she has more rabbit than Sainsburys! Les.
  16. I hope she doesn't do that 'siiting on the floor thingy', it looks soooooooooooooooooooo embarrassing! Les.
  17. Typical Wimmin, shop, shop, shop! Les
  18. Black is harder to apply becuase it absorbs light and even small blemishes stand out. White is better for the opposite reason, it reflects light. Les.
  19. From the Land Rover Chronicles website:- http://lrchroniclepub.proboards29.com/inde...read=1082915835 Les
  20. Thanks for the reply JW. Good idea with swinging the engine across and I'll probably do it that way. I think the heads will have to come off though as this engine has been burning a LOT of oil for quite a while and is no doubt badly in need of a de-coke if looking at the plugs is anything to go by. The heads sound just like badly adjusted tappets, so I did wonder about adjustment. Do the hydraulic ones clog up or stick, causing the rattle. Any idea if they can be taken apart, cleaned, and re-fitted with any degree of success? Thanks anyway. Les.
