  1. Sounds like a good way to spend my birthday. I too may be in the area, will let you know for sure by the end of the week. John
  2. It will be like the Paris - Dakar rally. That no longer starts in Paris. Or finishes in Dakar.
  3. Just as well there are still plenty of the good ones about
  4. I ordered a few bits from Paddocks once and they came with a couple of nuts and bolts missing. A quick email or telephone call later and I had the missing bits through the post the next day. Bad that they were missing in the first place but good that the problem was sorted out quickly and without any expense.
  5. We can all band together and create a cooperative insurance company that covers land rover owners only. It will just need a small investment from each of us, say £50k each.
  6. Damn it looked absolutely brilliant. Gutted I missed it. I've got to make septembers.
  7. Hi John the vast majority (but, admittedly, not all) of PI firms are claims management companies regulated by the Ministry of Justice and not law firms regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (and previously the Law Society) Most of these claims are sought after and processed by 'experts' in this field. Many often have one or two in-house solicitors but most bring in panel solicitors on occasion to review cases and/or attend court. Not all lawyers are greedy. Some are yes, but please do not tar my entire profession with the same brush. Thanks John
  8. sorry chaps for the lack of an update. I've been working stupid hours recently and I've not had a chance to get under the bonnet. I will this weekend though so will post again soon. JB
  9. keep your chin up old boy, you can't be too far off now.
  10. It's not a cost effective modification so people are not prepared to pay someone to do it. I know I'm not.
  11. Thanks Mo. Mine is a bit out of shape and rattles on the top of the turbo so I've been considering removing it and seeing if I can put it back into shape. I have been cautious about doing it in case I broke it but if my truck can run without it for a while with no adverse effects maybe I'll give it a go.
  12. has it not caused any damage to the paint?
  13. more likely to prevent damage to the bonnet I reckon. Yes the turbo gets hot but its protected from being touched by the bonnet itself
  14. I would rather fit a part that has had some proper testing. Too many other people on the road that I'm responsible for so it's just not worth taking the risk (see the above mentioned case as a prime example of how badly things can go wrong).
  15. I think you are not too far from me Suggs. The LEZ starts not 1/2 a mile from my house. I have to go down to Southend fairly often and won't even be able to drive down to the A12/A127 and will have to go the long way round through Brentwood (not that I mind too much, it's a nicer drive to be honest). I refuse to sell my truck though. I'm just not going to go into London anymore.
  16. Hi Def90 As Western says, there's lots of info in the two threads already started plus links to info elsewhere. Also look here for info: TFL Website If your Defender is registered as a utility/light 4x4 or commercial vehicle, you are stuffed unless it runs on petrol or has the costly filter fitted. Options: 1. Fit the particulate filter to make it compliant; 2. Convert it to a v8/petrol; 3. Move outside the M25 (the LEZ covers most of the area inside the M25) and don't drive your landy back in; 4. Become Prime Minister and take us out of Europe. It's a jip but there's not much else that can be done about it I'm afraid. Some people have tried for reclassification of their vehicle with the DVLA but I'm not really sure what difference this has made and if like me you have a hardtop and you don't want to change it, this won't be an option. Regards, John
  17. Not sure I'd want to tow it, I'd keep thinking someone was driving right up my backside
  18. This is one of those things that I know I have got to get around to buying but until someone mentions it, or until something bad happens, isn't really at the front of my mind. Will add an alarm to my iPhone to remind me to buy one on pay day methinks.
  19. That Disco has got some amazing grip!
  20. It's funny, I prefer them with. the paint underneath should be like new as its had a protective cover for all these years so I imagine that the rest of the paintwork will look quite faded compared to where the decals were
  21. oh I know, it's just a very frustrating subject for me as the LEZ starts about 1/2 a mile down my road (I live just within the M25 but in a very rural area). as I say, it's not so much the concept of the LEZ that annoys me but the 'one size fits all' approach that demonstrates a lack of careful planning and consideration. The good news is that I would have to pay the LEZ charge if I needed to drive to Romford. So, one more good reason not to drive to Romford then
  22. I know, my point is what is the difference between the two vehicles? the regulations are aimed at reducing emissions yet two vehicles that produce exactly the same level of emissions are treated differently. As I have said before, my hardtop is not used for commercial purposes. It is my day-to-day car. It just happens to not have windows in the back and no comfy carpeting and 'insulation'. I disapprove of the lack of sensible consideration when setting the standard as to what is acceptable and what is not. EDIT: it was a rhetorical question rather than an enquiry.
