  1. Oooh! Thanks for the stark warning, I sue bungee cords very often but never really considered the dangers!
  2. I'm starting to get some aluminium oxidisation on my doors so I may try and deal with it following Spearos' method before painting my panels. I don't think I'll paint them this year, will probably do it next year some time, I may have a garage by that point. I'm defo going to do the roof this summer though.
  3. wow, some terrific stuff there chaps, many thanks! great websites recommended too, I think I'll have a chat with a local paint supplier (if I have one) or the people at Turners. how long does brush on paint take to dry? is it best to paint under cover? I don't have a garage so run the risk of dust and stuff landing on the wet paint. also, what's the difference between brush-on paint and coach enamel? thanks again! JB
  4. I think the bumper requires a mount to be fitted to accommodate the winch see here for some ideas John
  5. what?! why do that?! there's some fools around isn't there [hangs head in shame]
  6. I've got a big 265/75 16r BFG KM2 on steel rim on my door and I open and shut the door all the time as I take the dog everywhere. My truck is a 1992 200Tdi Defender and I've not experienced any problems (so far, touch wood) and no need for the carrier. Don't think you'll need it on the TD5 right away. What they do help with though is making your back door lighter so if you are parked on a slight slope and are trying to keep your door open, it's pretty hard to stop it from swinging shut with a load of weight on it.
  7. Hi all, firstly, I hope I've put this in the right place I want to re paint my roof as it's got chipped and scratched quite a lot from greenlaning, falling up against trees and putting my roof rack on and taking it off again. Now, I know even less about painting and decorating than I do about mechanics (if that's possible ) so I really need some basic help. I've seen the paint work some of you guys have done with rollers and brushes on here so I thought I'd give it a go myself. My roof is a kind of white/ivory colour and I really want to keep it the same shade. So what I need to know is: 1) what paint do I use? Where's best to get it from? 2) what prep work do I need to do and what tools etc do I need to do it? Do I need to rub the current paint down and if so, what do I use? 3) do I need to remove the roof first or can I cover up the rest of the truck with sheets/newspaper? Can I use masking tape or will it damage my paintwork? 4) what brushes/rollers do I use? 6) anything else I need to know? thanks in advance for humouring me! I bet you've never come across anyone as incompetent as me when it comes to basic DIY tasks Regards, John
  8. wow not nearly as pricey as I thought they'd be either. Cheers Nige!
  9. Nutter! Those are some ace tweezers actually. Where did you get them from Nige?
  10. Still, at least you had the savvy to go straight to A&E and not try to remove said splinter with an array of kitchen utensils and the wife's make-up accessories
  11. you could get some of these. and be a happy chappy
  12. Hi and welcome. What year/engine are you getting?
  13. does the flashing do anything for noise insulation as well or is the difference negligible?
  14. F****** Hell! How stupid can you get??
  15. Blimey! Is that because of cuts to the staffing budget?
  16. of all the things to misplace Did you sell it at auction? I found this when doing a google search: Click Here
  17. The whole thing is just terrible, I feel for them.
  18. blimey! I know by comparison it's reasonable, but that is sooo much money!
  19. It's funny, Adrian Flux quoted me £300 more than Lancaster but everyone else seems to get a good deal with them.
  20. Vambo, those panels look great, exactly the kind of thing I'm after.
  21. Try: Lancaster - My insurers, very good policy (greenlaning & non- competitive off roading both covered, up to 15k miles per year) and very reasonable premium Frank Pickles - Most people's choice and from what I've heard, Land Rover experts.
  22. I've seen one with 4 wheels at the back, it was a hi-cap and I guess the owner thought he would be carrying more weight than the truck could handle. Would this ever be necessary?
