  1. I have a set of three from machine mart that was good value (£35 for three bits is pretty good) that goes up to 30mm: http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/...-cone-drill-set
  2. First off - hurrah! To 'splain the "rocket science" behind the diode for those not electrically inclined, it goes like this: I was gonna write a bit about tuning but a) I'm lazy and b) Since Ian reads this thread I'm sure he can offer far better advice than anything I'd come up with.
  3. Oh that reminds me - can one of the mods/admin fix the serach thingy to accept two-letter terms like "V8" as it would make searching a hell of a lot easier for those of us with proper engines
  4. That would heat the oil quite a lot I'd imagine, if most of it is recirculating back through rather than going back to the tank. Also depending on the system you'd need a (pressure) filter in the loop otherwise stuff could circulate round and round without being filtered.
  5. After a frustrating evening spent installing, playing with and uninstalling gallery scripts, modules, plugins and bridges can anyone offer advice on a decent gallery script to use with Joomla - it doesn't need to be super-fancy, right now anything that works would be welcome! LR content - it's so I can upload Ladoga pics to the (coming soon) new HOFS website. B)
  6. ...and it still won't have arrived If it was a decent V8 I'd argue, but the carbed de-tuned 3.5 you get in an old 110 is probably less powerful than a TDi and definitely less economical. A 3.9 EFi lump would be just sweet though.
  7. Well that sorts the skipping problem, now all I need is something louder than the V8 so I can hear the music
  8. There's your answer then - fit an HD front bumper and some underbody protection and call it job done dents add character, having dents from ram-raiding the local dixons would be one up on the dent top trumps game
  9. If you haven't already seen it, have a look at Ashcrofts Website - if that doesn't help, try phoning them or wait for "ashtrans" to post up here - guess who that is
  10. 1st guess: Seized UJ on the steering column - douse it with WD40 and have another go.
  11. Having seen the spec of the two vehicles tonight I would say keep your 110 and upgrade as you see fit, the alternative vehicle is: 1984 110 V8 - so slow, thirsty, with a 4-speed tractor box, and likely to be full of rust in inconvenient places. It has a 4" lift (IMHO not something to be duplicated) with QT/Scrapiron bits (only of value if you want the daft lift) It does have an ARB in the rear salisbury which is nice but by no means an outstanding thing. A truetrac in the front (not sure how good an idea this is, would a second ARB make more sense?) but if it's an early 110 it'll have a 10-spline front end whereas the 300TDi should be 24 shouldn't it? An 8274 (so a downgrade in performance & reliability from a TDI-powered H14W) on a scrapiron bumper (It's extremely tubular!) 35" BFG muds - OK if you were about to buy a set, otherwise there are alternatives out there and 35's and lockers may be pushing stock shafts/CV's) LPG (can be picked up for £250 at sodbury) A few other toys of no major concern And the asking price is nearly £4k All in, it's just about the sum of it's parts but by no means a bargain or a dream truck. Better off with the TDi (you can always upgrade to a nice V8 later), the H14W is a better bet than a stock 8274. Assuming you wanted to up the game of your truck: ARB's front & rear = £800 ish? or perhaps some different axles such as Land Cruiser that come with lockers. Then again, £2k gets you portals with lockers in and the ability to run proper sized tyres. Set of 35's = £500 - £1k depending on what wheels/tyres you went for More power = You could tune the TDi, or sell it for (relatively) lots of money and drop an EFi V8 and box in from a RR, MS'n'EDIS would see to the waterproofing As for CSW to HT change, if it's anything like the 109 you cannot just swap bodies - the chassis mounts are different as the floor drops for the rear passengers. There may even be different x-members/outriggers but I'm not 100%. Also if it's an '84 the sill/B-pillar/C-pillar bit will probably disintegrate if you try to remove it and you can't buy them ask me how I know, crusty ones went on eBay for £250 at that point I started welding... Stick some side windows and seats in the back and you have almost the same result as a CSW.
  12. Depends really - personally I am of the opinion that if someone wants the vehicle that badly they will have it away no matter how many locks/alarms you put on it - there have been so many posts where people's alarmed & immobilised vehicles have disappeared from their driveways while they sleep without a sign of a struggle. Most of those devices seem to inconvenience owners more than they do thieves just make sure your insurance is paid up. TBH the only two things I would seriously consider are a tracker (so you stand a chance of finding it / knowing it's moved ASAP) and CCTV pointing at where it's parked (then you might actually be able to identify the scrotes who took it).
  13. What if I'm on 37's with 7.29:1 portal axles?
  14. Paul - you sound so downhearted! My point was simply that a list of components and weights would not necessarily be any great help in deciding which to use. So far there have been some interesting ideas in this thread, I'd never seen those super-light triallers before and there are ideas to take away from those. There has been some great advice too - having seen Daan's Series it is a really impressive vehicle, for the attention to detail and the way everything has been thought about so carefully. As Jez said to me a while back: Decide what you want it to do and then build it. Look where that got me The man is right though - only you can decide what you actually want, and once you set the criteria you've just got to build it (unless you're Al in which case you'll never decide and just keep re-designing the vapour build) All the ingredients are out there - small car or even bike engines, lightweight tube, GRP, small 4x4's (Panda, SJ, Subaru Justy anyone?) trawl eBlag & Freeads and see what presents itself as a suitable donor. Personally I have a hankering to build a quick freelander (not a DLander) for mucking about in, but that's for another day and another overdraft
  15. Is that a tack weld I see on the join twixt arm and end?
  16. Just to hijack this thread slightly, can anyone tell me if I can join an LT230 to a Series speedo head?

  18. The AFM doesn't respond to throttle position, that's the job of the throttle position sensor on the side of the plenum, I'd explain about it but it's all in those manuals Nige posted so work through those and see how you get on. I may have a spare flapper ECU and AFM somewhere, no guarantees but they did function on the RR until I squirted it notice a pattern emerging? BTW I see you're in Chichester, if you're really stumped on something I'm not a million miles from you and I have a collection of multimeters and hammers
