  2. 2nd attempt, On the 90 at the I have the original "hopeless" fuel cap that just sort of screws on..... When I am at a angle it sort of dribbles, (bit like it owner at times them) and fuel comes out, This means water and plop can also get in, not clever. I used to have on the Hybrid one of those demon tweeks whizzy aircrfat caps, loads of polish ali and allen bolts, but it was a sealed cap no breather. Has anyone converted there rather poor LR cap to one of these, which one did you use, what hose to connect did it fit ok, or how / what needs to be done and what about a breather in the tank, how did you soprt that out ?? Hope the above post makes sense, just got in from 5 hours drive back from Exeter (a303 closed ) and am knackered, just about to have a meeting with Mr Guinness and his 5 friends Nige

  6. Hi Steve, Some info that may help. The winch you have S5000 and the H14 are fundementally the same unit, but differ more in terms of dimensions. The S5000 is generally deeper front to rear, not helped by the arrngement of the rollers on the front which with the 1" box holding the frame together adds anout 3 inches over the H14 which is held together with a flat plate across the two sides, and the rollers /frame doesn't exist, it is instead designed to be fitted to a massive winch bumper and then the rollers added etc, and easier to go Plasma etc should you chose to (you should not really use plasma with roller fairleads) The csasings are rectangular too, so dimensionally the H14 is smaller, but still big ! Both are driven by a shaft whichs plugs into the bottom passenger side of the LR, again similar but different, the S5000 has a shaft which a U/J goes on to, the H14 has a "T" type shaft which plugs into a coupler. As such fitting a U/J into a hole in the crossmember is trickeir than the H14s plus, yet this is exactly what I had on the olf hybrid... I cut HALF of the front crossmember away which had the effect of them allowing the winch to move backwards into the now larger gap, and then I replaced the strength I had removed by welding in a U section channel, with a hole and tube prewelded in out of 6mm plate.. Spring wise its a fairly simple fix, measure spring height now, and see what it drops, also see what is (colurs on the springs) on it now and then chnage spring if you have to, or fit spacers if poundgae is ok but the height is not...seperate job really, it q1st a case of do you fit.. I would say "Yes", although the H14 would be an easier and neater installation, but I am a fan of the Superwinch Mechancial and Hydrauilic units, they seldom are beaten in a pulling situation ! HTH Nige
  7. Jon W has just finished fitting PAS to his series, I'll nag him to do a post, but the basiscs were using a 6 bolt Box I gace him, the old Hybrid PAS Pipes, and a bit of fabrication and RR stuff. Going out 4x4ing topday, so will get a good 1st outing ! Nige

  14. Cheers Nick, blood pressure time, saw this too, reminded me of my e-mail to the editor of Land Rover Excuse of a magazine you mean this post : I wasted £3.65 today I feel, ............................on the August Issue of LRE. I sat on a train, and after 12 mins I had "Read it" (or read anything vaguely of interest.....) I sat on the train, and then had an idea.... I did an analysis of the whole magazine, Jeeeez, the number of pages of adds ! Anyway, I was so seriously fed up with this I have just sent this off to James Taylor Editor of LRE on the basis that if we / I / readers don't say whats wrong, then they will sit there slapping themselves on the backs thinking its a great "Job Done" So, Do you reckon I'll get any reply ? here's what I sent, ............... and yes I was reaaly hacked off as to just how C54p it was...... Dear Mr Taylor, LRE Magazine ……………..Do you think its value for Money ?…………… REALLY ?…………….. I stopped my subscription a while back, and today I bought a copy as I was going to be on a train for a good long while…………..thought it may have improved ?....... Nope, its got worse............... Take a look at the USA Magazines, run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, ................ loads of detail, technical info, specials, modifications, upgrades (that doesn't mean bolting on a "Goodie"), and articles that take ages to read because they are well written, about interesting subjects that you just do not see elsewhere.... If you wonder why your sales are low or falling, perhaps the above lack of effort or "freshness" might just show why, .....this magazine is going to be bought by a new owner for a short time or a individual thinking about buying...not long term die hard enthusiasts who will take out subs and rush to get there copy of LRE to see what exciting innovative and interesting articles there are in it............ I will be very very careful about wasting my money on LRE again, ...............I'll see 1st if there is anything work buying it for.............. I don't expect to get a reply to this e-mail, as you will probably just laugh and bin it................. and I did get a reply, and I did offer the 90 as they were interested in an article, which I then told them to (as they had closed LRE Forum) that, in my opinion the best thing they could do was ** **** ********* and **** ** **************** *** ****** tonsil ******* ***** *** ***** **** ** gerbil on stilts. Kin junk UK 4x4 mags Nige

  20. Right now there is not really one decent LR Mag. They are all too full of adverts and resemble yellow pages. They all do they same thing (just look at how they all have the same artlcle / RR sport) at the same time. The tech artcles are a joke, and they are what a mate of mione calls "dentist waiting room fodder" In my loft I have some old mags from the 80s 4x4 and Off Raod action....and boy they are / were good ! Off Road Motorsport came out as a tabloid, then got swallowed up. I guess the problem is having enough to differentiate yourself from the other mags, .....not difficult to do, but much harder work than LR* saying " : "And here is a 5 page article where we show you will pictures how to fit a set of mudlaps and pad out adverts so it looks like there is an article of 4 here - shame they are all absolute Cr^p" type of mag... Advertising does bring in revenue to cover costs, but in the end without artcles the number bought drop as there are no hard core subscribers, and then the advertisers wane, if you have heavy circulation figures, you can have less advertisers and charge more.....it a sales cycle... ALL od the US mags are run by enthusiasts, big time technical mods and articles, UK ?...many "Prof Journos" Nuff said....some are beginning to move away from the mass balndness occasionally, but hey go for it ! Nige
  21. Excellent news, ....really really well done to all concerned. Perhaps now we can finally relax and put the last few (very unpleasant) weeks behind us all . We now know we have stability, No more worries or wondering "whos going to do what next to whom" nonsense..... and talk LRs ...and it has developed quickly to a great forum, ...and very quickly too... .... What plans are there to get it onto search engines / members and other web sites and other links to advertise its here... so it continues to grow and flourish ? ? Nige PS Donation also sent
  22. Yeah, This was horrendous... I arrived a the carnage to find a melted motor on one winch and a damaged 8274, they couldn't shift it, it had crashed into the bank crossing the ravine front and rear embedded, I was asked to "Get it out and NOW..please nige " I shoved the winch on it, with 6x LRs and RRs tied to me and a ground anchor...it came out in bits, tore off the front winch with "Recovery (chocolate) mountings : so having pulled off the front bumper assembly and the winch cradle (held on with studding), we pilled the bits on the bank, I was asked to "Bring it out in bigger bits Nige"...but, it WAS moving, just kept tearing lumps off it ! The passenger chassis leg cracked...so moved to drivers leg knew it could cause probs...... : but this pulled it the wrong way, but it moved, mate then shoved another winch cable on and I wrapped strop around axle : he'd been in nearly 2 hours and in fairness apart from cacking himself was immensely appreacative of being out... TYhe old Hydraulic W has a bit of pulling power..... ...quite a few thought that after 2x winches earlier failed to move it how was 1x winch going to do it..... had a few people peering at it after the RR was recovered, some even asked me "what sort of Electric winch have you got theremate " So, on a serious note to everyone, please do us Marshals a favour, have you got REALLY GOOD FRONT AND REAR recovery points, with HD bolts, spreader plates and siutable to be SERIOUSLY recovered ?.... Without these any recovery becomes so much more difficult for us, and dangerous for us, you and spectators, sorry to hapr but its one of my pet bug bears !.... PLEASE think and look, ask if your unsure SCL has done a post on this very subject...PLEASE Pant Pant Ok nurse ...sorry I'll be a good boy and ranting stop now No, seriously ple.........argh gerrof.................................................
