  1. Landi41 is quite right. You do need a good long book to read if you, like me, have a Milemarker. I get really bored waiting at the top for the "electric" guys who failed half way up the climb.
  2. For what it is worth I have stuck my fourpennyworth on thier site as well.
  3. The cheapskate has probably only got it taxed as a motorcycle
  4. I had to think up something that vaguely fitted my truck's reg......but failed!
  5. I have Sumo Bars and seem to remember when I fiited them that they are tubes. However, they are tough as old boots. IMHO the advantage of Sumo Bars over Dan Bars is that the former do away with the time honoured problem of TREs siezing in the track rod and making tracking adjustment a nightmare.
  6. I have been with Mudplug and can recomend them. I did the Nothern Tour as a bit of week-end relaxation. Probably doing their "Masif Central" tour next April. It is somewhat more hairy than the Nothern Tour but still the same "all in" deal with ferry, accommodation, food, beer etc.
  7. Can't stop.....must rush off to Halfrauds to get me a 12 volt travel iron!!!!!
  8. Glad you like the flowers Niall..........it is cleverly done with a flower box fitted to the back of the bulkhead!
  9. Thinking about it....it would need modification to be used as an extension rope. The non hook end of the one I tried was plain. It would therefore need a loop putting in it. It would need stitching on an industrial sewing machine as splicing is not an option.................................unless you are happy to dangle your landy on the end of a knot you have tied! Also it would be a bit tricky to use with a snatch block.
  10. You spoke too soon Les. Round 2 has just started!
  11. I think these people sell them here. I tested one and found one big problem was attaching it to the winch. My winch drum still has shiney paint on it and you attach this type of "rope" to the drum by tieing it on. No matter what sort of knot was used (and I had an expert doing it) the whole lot just slipped on the drum when put under any load. You cannot poke this stuff into a hole in the drum or crimp an eye on the end. If the drum is roughed up a bit it may grip. Could be OK as an extension rope.
  12. Like you I changed my injector loom (problem solved BTW!) and had a bit of fun fitting the new gasket (you did use a new one didn't you?). Basically the trick is to get the little "half moon" bit of the gasket seated properly in its place. I managed this without sealant but it it plays hard to get a bit of Blue Hylomar just to hold it where it needs to be would be OK.
  13. I wired some auxiliary sockets just for this purpose. I took the main feed from the second battery (Optima Yellow Top) so that even if I leave things running too long it won't prevent me starting the engine. I fiited a fusebox to the bulkhead behind the driver's seat and ran the cables through the bulkhead and behind the Lasalle trim I fitted. The sockets are in this piccy between the storage box (home made black box!) and the electric cool box but can be anywhere convenient. I used Vehicle Wiring products sockets. I can control which sockets are on or off via a switch panel I fitted here The benefit of this is that I can leave the coolbox on all the time but switch the electric kettle on a few minutes before I stop for a brew! I designed this set up for long trips abroad and it worked fine.
  14. I will probably go.....for reasons which are not as yet clear to me! No doubt I will think of some wallet emptying scheme by then.
  15. I fitted one to my TD5 90 just to get round the aforementioned overdrive clearance problem. It sounds nice and you can get out after a run with the motor on tickover and listen to the turbo whistle changing. For the first week or so the low frequency noise/reverberation was a bit obtrusive until the pipe sooted up a bit. The turbo does seem to spin up a bit quicker and it pulls a bit better low down.
  16. I struggled with this problem for a while and solved it by getting a (Norwegian made) custom mounting bracket for the Defender. It fixes by fitting under one of the windscreen heater vent screws at the top and one of the fixing screws under the dash panel. Like Tony the actual PDA is attached by velcro. When in place you can't actually see the mounting bracket. It does not shake at all due to being firmly fixed to the dash (without making any holes!). Sorry don't have any pics of the braket on its own to hand but here is the end result.
  17. I seem to remeber there isd a problem fitting coiler axles to series landys due to the track rod wanting to sit just about where the leaf spring is.
  18. Only just seen this. I nipped out to the office car park and counted them on my untouched TD5 90....11 threads showing.
  19. I don't know if you can get them (or something similar) but I have fix plenty of smokers in the past for skint owners by using "Apex" piston rings. These were cast iron with a stepped top ring to take account of the wear ridge in the bore. They were easy to fit and gave another 10k before smoking again.
  20. A certain factory in Bavaria on fire!!!
  21. Nope.....from Somerset! I did the Italian National on my way down the the rest of Italy on Holiday.
  22. V8bertha, The Italian trip would not, by any chance have included this stream would it?
  23. I am trying to forget about that Tony, we all have our mental scars!! have done a few things to it since then to help matters!!
  24. My Series One with "Management" at the wheel .. my daily drive playing in Slovakia ..and having a rest!
  25. Maybe, but you ain't gonna get antwhere near the performance from the Ring lights!
