  1. There is no rating for a 300Tdi because it ceased production before the March 2001 deadline. It will not therefore come in for the "4x4 gas guzzling" tax. Only vehicles registered on or after 31 March 2001 will get caught. Hence it seems that an old 110 will be OK and the new X5 will get any higher tax rate relating to emissions. Hope this makes sense! My TD5 was registered in 1999 so will also not cop for it. But is you have a TD5 registered on or after 31 March 2001 you will get caught....unless the rules are all changed of course! If your truck was registered before the deadline you will be paying on the old cc related tax bands...which of course Mr Brown is free to change as well!
  2. Just hada a look at the Scrapiron website........all signs of disc handbrakes X-Eng or otherwise seem to have mysteriously disappeared. Why could that be?
  3. Mark, Have a word with Pete Greenway (Scorpio on lro.com). he is chairman of the national club and may be able to tell you if their is a local branch for your area.
  4. Got mine this morning. Very nice Si. Cheers!
  5. Whoopee! My X-eng stickers and freebie key ring tool arrived to-day. Cheers Si! Hopefully I will be able to order an X-brake soon. Loadsa support here in the forum but don't forget we should be on a mission to push this in the outside world and see if we can make Si's order book a bit fatter.
  6. Hi Warren, I'm just down the road from you in Wellington. As are one or two other inmates of this fourm.
  7. I'll have a word with Lee at Custom Vinyl, he might do it.
  8. Hello and welcome. Are you sure the transfer box was not changed? Changing the gearbox will not alter anything as the speedo drive is in the transfer box. You do not need to re-calibrate the speedo, just get the right drive gear in the transfer box (much simpler). Having said all this the speedo my TD5 90 on 265/75 tyres still over reads compared to the GPS.
  9. Unless of course you drive through a puddle in which case it leaks from the bottom up!!
  10. I have bought from Scrapiron in the past, and thats the way it will stay...in the past. I detest this kind of behaviour. I have a couple of Scrapiron stickers on my truck...they will removed as soon as I get home! Long live small business and X-eng! Do you do any stickers I can replace my Scrapiron ones?...willing to pay.
  11. Hmm....maybe a small remote camera and a screen in the cab so I can keep an eye on the bolts! Actually wiring is a good idea.
  12. Thanks guys, glad to hear I am not alone! New bolts and clean out the threads it is then. The reason I changed the diff was to put a locker in so maybe that doesn't help but on the other hand I had one in my old Disco and the bolts never came loose. I am now getting twitchy about the crownwheel to carrier bolts.
  13. For reasons which are not clear to me the rear drive member bolts (one piece halfshafts) on my TD5 90 came loose. On one side 3 were nearly out and the other 2 were loose. I changed the diff a while ago and I cleaned the bolts, used Loctite 243 and torqued the bolts up to 48 ft lb. Any idea why they should have come loose? Should I have used new bolts? At the end of the day its no big deal as I can check them regularly but its a bit annoying.
  14. For an emergency repair I would, like Mike, recommend Wynn's RSL. I worked for them for a while and got to see how it works....very clever stuff!
  15. Good points made by HFH. Also don't forget that the intended use of the winch plays a part. My MM H12 is for occassional recovery but also gets used for other things. The other week I was using it to do some logging (dragging a load of dead elm out of a gulley). It ran solidly from 8.00am to mid-day only stopping to spool out again. It did this with no sign of over heating or problems. On the other hand if you were doing a challenge and need to winch a 90 up a short slope in a hurry a 8274 would be what you want. Having said that, the figures listed above for line speed under full load make for interesting reading! Like the man says, horses for courses......
  16. Don't ya just love our colonial cousins!!!!
  17. Er....too difficult...give up! Sorry but I have not heard that term applied to a TD5.....I wonder if they are taking the p*ss.
  18. I got some new shiny welding torch shrouds to-day! Very exiting....but also very sad I suppose....well almost as sad as getting exited about a brick hammer..... I also have a Thor hammer which I have had since Adam was a lad and use all the time.
  19. Anyone sent this to Sian Berry???
  20. Interesting! I also had heard that the motor was fine on unleaded due to being designed on carp low octane fuel in ungybungyland. Consequently I have been running my 1953 2 ltr on straight unleaded for the last 4 years with no problem. I guess part of this is the lower mileages Series Ones tend to do and they don't tend to get very hot doing long journeys. When engine rebuild time is here I will consult Mr Cox what the latest thinking is.
  21. Luke is right. there is no room for a glow plug on no. 5 pot due to the space being taken by the fuel delivery block.
  22. Hmm.........the TD5 is obviously a 5 cylinder engine but only has 4 glow plugs. On cold mornings it can take a couple of seconds for no. 5 cylinder to "catch up" with the rest. On mine this causes a sound similar to that you have described. It only happens on really cold mornings.
  23. The gasket between the valve/regulator block and the head is the usual culprit.
  24. Aha....that explains the sneezing noise it made this morning.....I'll go and pop a paracetamol in the tank to keep it happy!
  25. I have a straight through ipe as well. I fiited it to get round the problem of the centre box fouling the overdrive. If you have an EGR blanking plate on a TD5 it can cause the ECU to show an air flow meter fault code and ignore the meter signals. This may cause a fuel consumption issue but it should not cause carp running......or could it???????
