  1. No they didn't, but in fairness I didn't notice a thing until it went. Driving down the M5 late at night towing a big box trailer we decided to stop for coffee at Sedgemoor services and as I dropped out of 5th gear I lost all drive. No noise prior to it going or anything. finally found 4th. As there weren't any nasty noises I reckoned it may be a remote linkage problem (D4x4 modified it a bit when they did the clutch) so we carried on back. about 20 miles from home it started to get noisey but it was 2am by then so rather than stop we carried on. it sounds awful now unless you dip the clutch. The V8 is obviously a goodun towing all the way back to Lynton with only 4th! Plan A is get the box out then call Ashcrofts. Will
  2. I am in the market for a new gearbox for the P38a I have an R380 sat in our Discovery wreck that we are breaking but the input shafts are different apparently and besides its all buried under a boat and other miscellaneous 'stuff' so its not easy to get at shortterm and Lucy wants her car back. So, having drawn a complete blank with the breakers nationwide I have had a quick look at getting a recon box. Ashcrofts have an enviable reutation and they also seem to be the cheapest! There are lots of others who seem to have 'hidden' extras. So the question is do I go to Ashcrofts or are there others you folk have direct experience of who are better? Will. ps. anyone got a workshop and some spare time to help me fit it well worth a try wasn't it
  3. Damn cheek! Mine are almost smart now... Will
  4. Tony I know a very nice lady who makes signs PM me for details Will
  5. Could be good for us and I nearly have a winch fitted now I am off to do silly things in the alps for 10days is at the end of Jan, beginning of Feb though... Will
  6. £1500 with a dead (derv) engine is the cheapest I have heard of. Will
  7. I know of one running 265s on 8 spokes with a bearmach blue spring +2" kit, which sort of answers a bit of the question Will
  8. Its escaped my why so many of you lot want to own 90s. Finally last night I realised why a 90 is better than a 110 SW. BECAUSE A 90 DOESN'T HAVE REAR SIDE DOORS!!!! I have just spent a ridiculous amout of time trying to swap the glass and gubbins from the old door to the new one, what a swine of a job, and I am probably going to have to do it again with new rubbers etc soon anyway as I have knackered all the old stuff in the process.GGGRRRRRR. One down, just off to do the other side then the rear door....hope the rain holds off.... Will
  9. Lucy lost her mobile when we went to the Bude site a few years ago, bounched out of the dash board and she assumed it had gone out the window. It hadn't, I found it a year or so later lodged behind the battery under her seat! Quite how it managed to get there I have no idea... Yes it was knackered. Will
  10. My old one is at the dealers for £5000, LPG'd though which adds something I supose. after yesterdfay I wish I still had the damn thing Will
  11. As said in the title thanks to Devon 4x4 I have Lucys P38a back in time for our annual assault on the BBC Festive Good Food Show in London. With a week to go the damn clutch AND gear linkage decided to let go, I just didn't have time to do it, everyone else who would usually help me out was busy so the RAC (bless them) took it the 25miles south to Simon and Co I phoned them on Friday and explained the predicament and they had it in on Monday, got it back yesterday. Top work chaps. I had a chance to look at Simons new 90 yesterday, what a splendid bit of kit that is! Really really neat rear winch crossmember, if you want a rear winch on your 90 that has to be the way forward. Will
  12. Oh its your birthday this week as well eh! Will
  13. Just thought I would start a thread Sad... Yes I have been to the pub....and I am going back shortly.... Will
  14. Sobering indeed, I didn't know he was ill. Got to go, I have a life to wring some fun out of... Will
  15. After looking through the service history the clutch fitted with the new engine (by Land-Rover) lasted only 40,000miles! a new clutch was fitted 4000miles ago at a cost of £515! I asked our main dealer for a quote (for a laugh) and they said it would be £646 minimum as they usually needed to fit new exhaust downpipes and complete exhaust gaskets to refit the engine! I would be lucky to get change from £1000 by the sound of it! Not bad wages for 6 hours work. I don't use Devon4x4 for anything but they still squeezed me in on Monday as its needed for some serious towing next week and the price is not at all bad in my opinion. Will
  16. Any chance of a photo of Exmoor from your side of the channel David? We are only 20miles from you Will
  17. No photos of us high up on Exmoor but there was enough for some serious sledge fun today and I can confirm a 4.0V8 P38a with no clutch is a riot chasing a scooby imprezza across Brendon Common. I was very ipresed with the grip from the Pirelli STs even when trying to provoke it. More fun tomorrow hopefully Will
  18. Checked through the reams of service history and the damn thing had a new clutch 5000miles ago, seems the roller pins have gone as suggested. Devon4x4 are sorting it on Monday as I just don't have time at the moment Will
  19. My engine is 44,000miles old and was fitted by Land-Rover, I would expect a clutch to last longer than that Will
  20. at a quick glance I saw fluid pouring from the slave cylinder so ordered a new one and just went to fit it and....guess what!? Its not the slave cylinder at all, the lever has gone so far forward that the slave piston has come out....f'kit Next? Will
  21. The passenger was our very own Chris Watts I believe (GB MUD) Will
  22. perhaps that means cars are getting cheaper but the electronics element stays the same .....maybe not... Will
  23. those wheels are plenty Bling enough for Exmoor Steve! If I fitted 22" Chrome ones I would be thrown off the moor and rightly so... The RR may not be Red, but the 110 is much much redder now, well the rear corner panels are as is the o/s rear van side panel and the o/s front wing top its getting there slowly... Will
  24. you jest MOG, had it a couple of weeks and its broke already, slave cylinder just arrived by courier, strangely the clever computer hasn't picked up that the clutch stopped working but did know when the drving lamp bulb went, odd... Not looking forward to doing the slave cylinder in the cold tomorrow morning Nice car though... Will
