  1. Hi I'm rebuilding my 90 on a Richards V8 chassis with a 3.9l EFi V8 which I took out of a Discovery but have come across a problem dropping the engine in. I've got the Discovery LT77 v8 bell housing, an Ashcroft built long stick v8 LT77 and the disco transfer box. At the gearbox end I've used the Defender mounts which is fine as it should keep everything in the right places for the tunnel and props. At the the engine end, I'm using the Discovery engine mounts which seem to land about 2.5" too far back to meet the chassis mounts. Any ideas what I need to do? Are there different mounts for a Defender V8? Any help appreciated - Thanks! David P.S. I promise I'll start a promise rebuild thread soon!
  2. Thanks. I've got a Military wolf air filter that I had in my 200tdi with a couple of rubber quick fist clamps. I think I just need to make something to hang it off the back of the engine. Those manifold bolts look like a good option. D.
  3. May I ask what you're supporting that filter on? I'm about to come across this problem on my rebuild. Thanks David
  4. I went through this and couldn't bring my self to get rid of my 90 or spend that sort of money on something that although is a Defender, didn't feel very good quality or value. So, I'm keeping the 90 as a second car and rebuilding it with galvanised, insulated and heated everything and 3.8 v8. It will cost less than a new one and probably last longer. It should sound nice too. I'll post a build thread when I get a bit further along. David
  5. I'm assembling parts to build up 3.9 efi defender and have decided to move to a td5 binnacle and transducer. The td5 clocks have a pulse output which should drive the ECU.
  6. Looks very painful. They got quite close to the edge on the bottom one didn't they?
  7. In the meantime I've had to get on with my axle rebuild using the zinc plated Britpart items. Oh well. Ingo, you may be in luck. David
  8. I've just removed a set of the Disco cast manifolds if anyone needs them?
  9. That fair enough, they do come in handy....
  10. Sounds like a great excuse to fit a heated screen?
  11. I got a VDO vision tachometer for Christmas which I'm going to use in my V8 rebuild. It will go well with the Td5 binnacle I'm also going to install. David.
  12. They recommend you use primer in harsh environments. Zinc or straight to metal is fine. I've bought it from ebay and a local supplier I found through their website in the past.
  13. I've used Rustoleum Combicolour with good results and have just painted it on some axles I'm rebuilding. It's a bit like Hammerite but better. David
  14. I'd be keen for set - I'm about to rebuild a set of axles. David
  15. Of the things I've had done to my D3, I'd say most you could do at home although you would need a computer to plug in once you've done it to turn the lights off. Any good Land Rover specialist should now be well used to working on this generation of LR. Costs need not be high.
  16. I get about 28mpg average from my TDV6 D3. Servicing (done by indy specialists on our everyday cars) is definitely a more expensive that the two 530i BMWs I had previously. More goes wrong too. Most specialists can do the to timing belts without the body off nowadays which makes it a bit cheaper, mines not had the body off yet yet but has had most of the common failures you will read about. When it's all working it's a fantastic car, so much so I can't get rid despite the costs to run it. David
  17. Rimmer Bros had a full system on offer on their website and I could't resist it. The pile of parts ready for the rebuild is growing!
  18. Very interesting. I have the tubular crossmember from the disco, along with it's y-pipe which annoyingly has cats. I thought there we 2 silencers on the TD5 exhaust - a big one in the middle and then a smaller one at the end. Which are you using? Thanks!
  19. Did this require some sort of custom pipe to link the two systems together. I'm about to start rebuilding my 90 as a 3.9 v8 on a galv chassis and would love to find a way not to spend £600 on an exhaust right now. David.
  20. I've got one like this that I can't trace too. Sorry, that's no help...
  21. I've just run white sikalflex down the gutters of my 90 to stop this. Just waiting for some rain to find out...
  22. I've used them. They do a neoprene ducting hose with a steel coil in it which will do the job. It should cost around £10. David
  23. I used quickfist straps to hold my MOD air filter canister to a plate I bolted to the timing cover when I swapped engines. David
