  1. What you are intending on doing WILL make the vehicle illegal unless it has been inspected by an SVA center as to whether or not it requires an SVA test (and it will).
  2. GTW for a tranny 35cwt is 5.6kgs these days and they make hard work of that. Canters are sold by Merc now and they have sorted the brakes. The 3.5tonner has 130bhp and a skip load of torque and the big 6 is a dream in the bigger truckes
  3. We run Canters at work (as I have posted before) We have 6.3 tonners, 6.5 tonners, 7.2 tonners and 3.5 tonners now all our vehicles will be canters eventually. The reviews are (IMHBPO) utter bo!!ox. They are reliable, tough, uber strong, capable, easy to drive, powerful and good VFM. However you will need the XLWB 7.5 tonner for a challenge motor.
  4. Paul, if you ever run for political position you have my vote and that of my wife and any of our children old enough to vote...
  5. Pray tell more about the Roller V's S3 incident, Obiwan My Dad is 5'3" now but was 5'6" so most people's dads are taller than my dad proving that I have nothing to gain in a p!**!ng contest I have never been to Landcruiser Park either but I have been to see the Queen at the trooping of the colour and eaten chips on Blackpool beach...
  6. I've done a bit of off roading as well!
  7. Got to drive a Stally when I first went into the TA back in the early 80's Then when I was working for Dickie Beddalls brother I drove another and a DUKW!
  8. Lots of stuff really. First 4x4 back when I was 14 was a Series 1 107 that ended up coiled 82" and V6ed - I was young! I have had S1's, 2's, 2a's, a 2b, S111's Lightweights, 90's, RRC's and a 100" as well as couple of hybrids - oh and a 1983 V8 LHD High Cap! Such a mix of engines in Diesel and Petrol as can be had. Also had a couple of Nissan 4x4's, three SJ's, three Auverlands, a Hi-lux, a Brava, a couple of Scooby 1.8 GL estates and a 1.8 Turbo, a quatro, some VW stuff, some Vauxhaull stuff and some other stuff... Oh and loads of bikes, the three best of which were an XL600LMF, a Super Blackbird and a Buell Edited to say that I also had a Suga 6x6, a couple of SAME's and the odd van
  9. James is one of a dying breed, even if he is a newboy!
  10. Borda - Recreational off roading only - Not HSE approved for commercial use Lantra - Utitlity/Commercial and Recreational (HSE approved) NPTC - Assessment of trained standard, very good and now HSE approved for Utility/Commercial* LRE - marketing exercise and customer relations, not HSE approved, generally very poor overall instruction unless you own a new Land Rover and want to know how it works. Was once the best off road driver training in the world - those days are mourned by many Other dodgy bits of paper - if they don't have the first three forget it ** Graham is a sound bloke and also a Lantra TSV * I am so impressed by the new look NPTC I am adding this to my Instructor/Assesor base ** CIEH is about to start traing in this field and they will be HSE approved
  11. I concour with my learned friend - having written a couple of articles on hybrids and SVA, Lesmond is correct. So this makes sooooo many vehicles illegal - from Bucky's Morrocco Bus to virtually every motor featured in the mags. The huge grey area that is made up of a mix of manufacturers liability, builders liability, owners liability, insurers liability, lies to the DVLA, lies to the insurance company, coppers with too little knowledge, VOSA inspectors with too little knowledge etc etc makes it all rather fun. So when John Doe is involved in an RTA in his V8 engined, caged, lockered, portalled, lifted tray back with shortened backside and rear winch mount that is still registered as a 2.5NA Van or a RRC with a VM - should he be surprised by the smell of the fan working overtime. Get a Q plate - not only does it allow you to get away with loads of mods but it's actually the new black
  12. Bowmotor or an EP9 unit OR and this will upset a load of people, the new Champion 6.6hp high speed unit
  13. Si's about hit the nail. I won't allow batch tested or ductile shackles only individually stamped/rated with a minimum of 3.75 tonne but I prefer 4.75. If it's welded on and looks to be designed well and built well and what ever it's welded to is bolted on properly then fine. I don't allow ball hitches of any sort, don't like 3.5 tonne pin hitches unless in tandem (but JST makes me say they are okay). Mind you part of the fun of scrutineering is being a fussy ba**ard and always having the reason for it - ie someones life! You can usually tell which vehicles are going to be the ones to look closely at - Fridgefreezers is a good example, old nail , with big tyres driven by a raving nutter.
  14. On Saturday whil;st watching Fridge demonsatrate how not to drive in mud, I was all set up for a good p*ss takewhen he lost complete forward and rearward motion but attained serious downward motion. But bless my soul he managed to find some grip and slogged out. Now this was nothing to do with Fridges appalling driving skills but totally down to the tyres - he would never have done it with Simex - not a chance in a million. When the UK distributors start doing some sensible width verisons I might just be in the market
  15. What do you need to know? By the way, I think that is one of the A3's I used to own.
  16. Must admit that since I swapped to reverse re-location it's all much easier and quieter - however if X-eng had been doing the x-spring back when I changed I would have gone dwon that route because when you compare Si's system with simple dislocation you can how much better it is
  17. Great weekend all in all - Saturday was a laugh and Sunday was huge fun. A big Thanks to Mike for letting us help marshal and a huge thanks to Moglite for the entertainment - any time you want to know a tank's serial number mate!
  18. Or you could buy some decent springs instead!
  19. PRT but would buy an Xeng jobbie if I went back to competition. To be honest anything can be broken - it's the way that it's not broken. For example, two X brakes on two vehicles over a combined mileage on and off road of about 70k and nary a problem bar a faulty handbrake cable from Brookwells (replaced under warrantee). Okay so no roughty toughty, hard core, drive like I stole it driving... But what would I know anyway
  20. James - you already have me down for the lot provided there are no clashes (except Slindon which is too far) - I will e-mail you the potentail clashes when I have an up to date calender
  21. More than happy with my double pumper. The valve fitting is cr&p though but easily changed.
  22. Stephen is right - the 200Tdi RRC/Disco dampers do go and in style. One minute pedal then no pedal. It's not a regular occurance and easy to fix (and worth carrying a spare if it the OE is old!
