  9. OK Fax your MP from here Edit this text... Dear [NAME OF MP], I am contacting you in relation to the NERC bill currently in front of Parliament. I am a keen exponent of using the countryside and travel extensively in my land rover exploring legal rights of way across the UK. I always advocate sensible use of the rights of way with vehicular rights, an option well supported by many of the off road and 4x4 clubs in the UK. Having said that I share the concerns of other countryside users about damage that can be caused by a very small minority of 4x4 drivers who drive both illegally and without consideration for other users such as walkers and horse riders. I very concerned that the net result of the NERC bill will further marginalise 4X4 drivers and reduce further the number of rights of way we can drive - thus increasing the risk of damage, without actually hitting the intended target who should be those using the rights of way either illegally or irresponsibly. Indeed instead of reducing the rights of way that can be driven it would make far more sense to increase the number therefore "spreading the load". I would welcome restrictions placed on rights of way either by having them locked with the keys being made available through local club rights of way officers or indeed a form of road licence fee where the money raised can be put towards effective policing of the rights of way, or maintaining them (or a combination of the above). Bearing in mind some of the far reaching and very important business in front of parliament at the moment I know that this may seem an irrelevance. However it seems to me that this is potentially very important bearing in mind the constant drip of this government removing individual’s rights. As way of indication as to the limited use of the rights of way, in the UK only 5% currently have vehicular rights and of this 5% more than 20% are currently closed. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I would be grateful for your views and support when reviewing the NERC legislation Yours sincerely, [YOUR NAME GOES HERE] And if it makes anyone feel better, my MP is Paddy Tipping is the Vice President of the Ramblers Association....!!! Cheers Peter

  12. SVO and WVO (Waste Veg Oil) have to be thinned by heat before they enter the injector pump. The viscosity reaches an acceptable level at about 82 degC, and you must also ensure that the pump is cleared of veg oil before shutting down - it will set in the pump otherwise. CAV type rotary pumps are said to last the shortest when used with xVO, while the Bosch inline pumps do better. You need 2 tanks, a switchover solenoid valve and a way of heating the oil - ither electric or heat exchanger. That Neoteric kit is one of the first that was commercialised - the vegtherm heater is actually made up using diesel glowplugs IIRC.... You can make one fairly simply if you have the skills... The comments about HMC&E getting a bit ar5ey are correct, as the govt have realised how big a market this is. You need to keep accurate records, and expect to receive a number of visits from odd inspectors at strange times.... Who don't need a warrant to seize your pride and joy...!! There is a very good Yahoo! group to do with veg-oil, and there are a lot of advice about the technical side and the costs and tax issues. I've considered coverting mine to WVO as I have a local chinese who could provide all the oil I could need. The only downside is that I will probably end up applying for a waste carriers licence just to cart away their old oil...!!! Cheers Pete
  13. Didn't they use 101 FCs as the base vehicles for Judge Dredd...??? You can tell by the wheel nut spacing.... Cheers Pete

  17. Don't forget, its not actually illegal to clock a speedo... Let me explain.... An odometer records mileage. Thats it. Its a grey area whether its legal requirement to have one, only a speedo is required. There is not an offence of changing the mileage shown in any of the Road Traffic Acts or Construction and Use regs, HOWEVER.... It is an offence to obtain a pecunary advantage by deception - in other words clocking a vehicle in order to either sell it with less miles on, or claim under a warranty or limited mileage insurance etc. Thats why most second hand cars in main dealers have stickers over the odometer showing that the mileage has not been confirmed. If you remove and keep the old speedo head and reset the current one to zero, when you come to sell the vehicle the two added together **should** show the correct recorded mileage for the vehicle... HTH Cheers Peter
