  1. Just remember, it probably will NOT pull the roof all the way down, there will be a gap over the front. I was not happy with mine to start with, tried several times to get it lower at the front which, only caused other problems. Then i checked other Defenders and found the gap at the front was variable on most of them and a filler had been used. I dont think i would bolt all the way through; why not fill the hole with araldite and re drill if you cant get a bolt to fit?
  2. Ah id forgotten, mine was a TD5 as well, which is why we couldnt get the bolts to fit
  3. Are you talking about the fixing to the wind screen surround? Im pretty sure that is a self tapper, might be wrong there, and a 14x25. Cant think where else there is a fixing at the side?
  4. the roof might not pull all the way down, mine didnt and ended up filling the gap with sealer. It fitted everywhere else, and doors seemed ok for aligning. Didnt want you to waste another couple of weeks removing the roof and trying to re align everything again....... (Been there done that)
  5. Loose the spacers, i guess you needed them at one point. But if your wheels are now at the same offset as you had been with the spacers do you need them? I have 235/85r16 on 8 spokes and although a thin tyre, they go to the edge of the eyebrow, i have a set of spacers i was going to fit but dont actually need them now.
  6. the earth is connected at the door switchs
  7. I dont think your hinge is the problem, The doors will not line up perfect, 5mm gap!!!! Land Rovers tolerences are probably 15mm. So 5mm is perfect, look at other peoples doors and you will find yours are not as bad as you think they are. I thought mine looked awful, and like you swre at it and was about to get someone else to do it; then a mate came round to look........ Told me to go look at his, after that i thought mine looked ok. he said mine fitted better than a lot he had seen. So dont be too critical at yours. Hope things went better today.
  8. Leave it in if its going down really slow, been driving my works van for near on a month with a wood screw in the rear tyre; i will get it sorted when it goes in for service. have to top air up every week, but not a real problem.
  9. Has any body used the woolies channel on their Landie windows? Any probs or straight fit? Any pics? Ta
  10. Try these http://www.walker-rubber.co.uk/ very helpful people, and you dont have to buy miles of the stuff.
  11. Good luck/Well done for the quit smoking. I stopped on the 27th Dec 2011, smoking over 40 a day for as long as i can remember.
  12. would sugest the lamp is blown on the panel and that your alternator is probably not working or you have a poor connection, as the tacho is operated by your alternator.(i am lead to believe)
  13. Only thing i would suggest is take it out and turn it round, so the lumps are on the inside; will save your wiper blades if nothing else.
  14. Check the back of your ignition switch if fuses all ok, or blowing!!
  15. Another slant on this would be a small helical element in the header tank (like a small kettle element); but that would also need a small circulating pump and some sort of thermostat, again it would need a 230volt supply and needless to say a 30ma rcd protection to protect everything. But on the plus side it would heat the water so engine temp would be warm and hence speed up the heater matrix temp.
  16. I had done a rebuild, but also after i refitted it i made sure all adjustments had been made and mine is toastie, even without all the rubber and insulation in it; although i do get wet through condensation ( mental note to myself, put roof lining back in).
  17. Which ever way you choose to do it im sure it will be fine, problems will be small. And you have always got back up/advice on here.
  18. Ok, Thanks Mike. Thats the sort of info i needed, will look into it a bit further now, and go for the 200tdi gauges.
  19. So what problems, if any, would i encounter? ie. speed readings wrong, speedo cables dont fit, wiring different etc. I would prefer to keep cable drive to speedo.
  20. Well an idea ive been thinking about, installing Disco gauges into a defender. Has anyone done this or any reason it cant be done? Mines a 95 300tdi 90; now im only guessing, but im assuming the 300tdi Disco gauges are the ones without the speedo cable, so would need to install the transducer to the gearbox (?) Or would i be better off with a 200tdi disco gauge and assume that still has the cable drive?? Apart from actually making it fit physicaly, is there any other problems that might arise? Or just your thoughts maybe. Cheers Graham
  21. Engine out is easiest, thats what i found, especially if your doing it alone.
  22. But where does one get them from and how much?
