  1. Same as a Sonim, only it leaks I bought the Samsung for much the same reason, its cheap enough to put in harm's way and not cry too much if it doesn't live up to its claims but so far so good
  2. There's now a Sonim XP3 which claims to be completely waterproof and submersible to 1 metre - IP57 rated. http://phones.mphone.co.uk/sonim/xp3.html same Lego colour scheme as the JCB phone
  3. Defender back axle seems like a likely explanation as a 90 one will fit though I couldn't honestly remember whether 90 pads have holes or not. There aren't that many different sorts of pads (maybe a dozen or so) so the best bet will be to take out one of your old pads and take it to a store who knows what they are talking about.
  4. How about some real world photos? What sizes do they come in? an 8x15" option would be good....
  5. It was right off here later on (about 11pm GMT) and off for several hours not just slow but not responding at all.
  6. Obviously this is the Competing forum but the space taken up by any non folding anchor is an issue if you have other stuff to carry in non competition vehicles, I like the X Eng one but can't for the life of my see where I could put it unless you want to have the front of your vehicle looking like something out of Battlestar Galactica I have one of Nigel's Kittygrippers and even that (folding Pullpal copy) takes up quite a bit of space. I was halfheartedly intending to make a detachable mount which would bolt onto the rear door spare wheel carrier but now I don't have a roof rack to carry the spare wheel on, I wouldn't really gain much.
  7. I would PM Reads90 he sent his 90 to Australia a year or two back and no doubt had to go through the same palaver to satisfy the Oz authorities.
  8. I'd call it air intake ducting but I don't know what the Land Rover part name is, probably something stupid that you would never think of typing into Google as that is what they normally do. Somebody with a copy of Microcat will no doubt be along with a part number for you in due course.
  9. If it prevents just one accident it has been very valuable IMHO.
  10. Thanks for the replies, not an isolated problem then probably worse here due to the rough roads though, the last half mile down to the house is 15mph max and is where most of the problem has been! My jockey wheel tube is smooth not ribbed, and yes it does have a "shoe" on the end of the clamp screw. I have got a heavy duty ribbed one I fitted on my boat trailer and it wasn't very expensive so I must measure the tube on my Ifor one and I might just order one of those if it is the same size. Tim, mine's a GD85 (8ft x 5ft box) so a bit smaller than yours but I expect the same hitch/jockey arrangement. Wishing I had bought a bigger one now and a dropside tipper not a GD as the tailboard is the most useless arrangement ever invented when you try and cart crushed rock in it Good idea about making something to tie it up, the replacement will be getting that!
  11. This is OT but would appreciate some input from forum members. I have an Ifor Williams GD series trailer about eight months old I suppose. In the time I have used it (no more than a dozen times and I expect about a hundred miles in total, probably less in fact) the jockey wheel clamp has failed (come loose and let the jockey wheel down onto the road) four or five times. Final straw was this morning and its bent the tube and f***ed it completely. It doesn't matter how tight you do up the clamp - I did it as tight as I could with both hands this morning and I drove about 400 yards down a rough rocky track and the stupid clamp had come off and the wheel fallen down. I tried straightening the tube in a press but it is knackered and you can barely turn the handle now with both hands even with no load on it. I've seen another trailer here just the other day with a completely shredded jockey wheel which was evidently the same thing so it is my opinion that it is a design fault with the clamps. Has anybody else with an IW trailer had similar problems? I'm going to write to them and see if I can at least get a replacement jockey wheel out of them on the basis the damn thing that holds it up isn't fit for purpose Any comments appreciated please!
  12. Ah ok - not so bad then I hadn't bothered to look up the exchange rate
  13. A bit of research with Google suggests that very early (S2/2A) studs were 9/16 BSF which later changed to the M16 studs found on all later vehicles. Check before you buy though, Google is not always correct
  14. Have you checked the air filter isn't choked up?
  15. I think you're probably into body lifts as well as just suspension, but if you can find info on fitting 33x12.50R15 they are about the same size
  16. Welcome If you have any problems, a good place to start is the search function and also the index post in the Technical Archive forum which contains a ton of information on all sorts of things. The IPB forum search is not that special and you actually get better results by using Google search, and typing in "site:lr4x4.com keyword1 keyword2" etc
  17. The best thing any supplier can do IF it does turn out to be a design fault is to put their hands up, say "sorry we 'cked up" and sort it out. It usually does them great credit in the long term, but I suppose the issue for a small company is whether they can afford to do that or not
  18. That's the Testbook port, which IIRC only appears from 1996 model onwards so won't be fitted to a 1994 vehicle. There is a separate diagnostic socket on the older 14CUX systems, and once upon a time I did have to find one but I can't recall either where it was (probably in under the drivers footwell side panel I THINK...) or what it looked like. Later vehicles access all the diagnostics through the Testbook port.
  19. According to the site http://www.x-eng.co.uk/X-Charge.asp it is 180A continuous and OK for higher for short bursts. So I don't really think 5 seconds for starting would cause undue problems even if it is 400A or so, but there is one way to find out I was amazed to see how cheap they sell the relay, for something that can handle that sort of current!
  20. Assuming the obvious - that there is water in the tank, and the washer jets aren't frozen if you are in the UK at the moment - the windscreen wash and headlight wash are on completely different circuits because I took the fuse out of my headlight washers because they were useless and just used 3x as much screenwash! Check if you can hear either of the windscreen washer pumps (try front and rear - 2 separate motors) if not check the fuses and then whether there is power to the motors when the button is pressed, if so the washer pump is probably just 'cked.
  21. The X Charge is designed to cope with winching current according to X-Eng - I would have thought a short burst for starting would be OK but Si might be able to comment on this?
  22. As far as QT is concerned, I have only dealt with them once and was quite satisfied with the items supplied (2 diff guards) but it is interesting to see the reaction you can sometimes get from suppliers to what might be fair criticism. I posted some time ago about problems I had fitting a certain piece of equipment from another well known Land Rover accessory supplier, I said nothing that was untrue and merely posted my observations on the issues/frustration I had with fitting, and the solution I eventually came to some time later and posted in the hope it would be useful for somebody else. I have recommended the item (despite the fitting issues) to others but despite this the company flatly refused to supply me with an additional part because of what I said on LR4x4 which had evidently been drawn to their attention. Ho hum.
  23. I have an AquaPac for my phone which is a waterproof submersible phone/radio bag with a clear front cover which you can use the phone inside, it has a clear front cover so you can see the display and is flexible to allow you to press buttons etc. Now I have the Samsung Solid I tend not to use it but always carried my old phone inside it when in the boat. Downside is the audio was not that great as the plastic of the 'pac mutes it a bit, also a 115hp 2 stroke outboard six feet behind me doesn't help either also it is no use at all for a flip or slide phone. Edited to say looking at http://www.aquapac.net/ukstore/erol.html now says there is a case for a flip phone though I can't see how it would work
  24. Sounds interesting - I always thought the factory Td5 auto missed the obvious strengths of a diesel which is plentiful torque at lowish revs, instead of which the Td5 (and the Tdi auto...) scream to 3000 plus revs as soon as you prod the right pedal at all and lose most of the benefits.
