  1. Nicely put. I must see if that will fit under my avatar
  2. You still show as in the "New Faces" group. I'll ask one of the admins to check it out - I think it might be 30 posts not 20, you will see it when you become "Settled in"
  3. Don't know if the Land Rover version is going to be better but the standard XP1 is only IP54 rated which is "protected against dust, limited ingress permitted, no harmful deposits" and "protection against water sprayed from all directions, limited ingress permitted". Limited ingress into a mobile phone is usually not good though my old Nokia has been submerged in salt water and after a couple of minutes under the cold tap and a night on top of the hot water cylinder it is still working If it is submersible I'll be very interested
  4. You can do either but for a lifted vehicle your best option is to change it for a UJ type shaft. You'll need a new shaft and a new flange for the rear diff.
  5. I thought the suggestion/request for this change came from a user actually, but I'll check. I don't care if everybody can see my vehicle as nobody is likely to come here to nick it but I can understand it might be a concern to UK residents. The requirements for users to be able to see it are hardly onerous and anybody who is an active member of LR4x4 will have no problem. Perhaps the best thing might be for people to indicate if they DON'T want their vehicle to be visible to all and sundry, and then we can look at the responses - if nobody wants to have it invisible then I guess we can change it back, I don't mind one way or the other. The change was done for the security of members, not to bugger things up and p*ss everybody off which seems to be the automatic assumption about anything that is changed round here at the moment. This is a very valid point...
  6. They don't guarantee it is waterproof though, which is why I didn't buy one, too expensive for a "might be ok"! Seems odd that plenty of people can make a radio or a GPS which is IPX7 rated to use on a boat, but not a mobile phone... mind you I suppose there is no money in doing away with the most common cause of phone failure!
  7. And like the real thing they may or may not keep the water out
  8. there are many threads, search for "kenlowe" or something and they should come up (also try Intl and Defender forums as the method is much the same)
  9. There are other restrictions to do with visibility to new members on the grounds of security. Play an active part in the forum and it will pop up in no time
  10. I am pretty sure it isn't the same thread as a normal M16 nut that you would buy from a hardware store, I am not sure what they are but I am sure they are coarser than wheel nut thread. It wouldn't matter as long as you get nuts and bolts to match, but if you use proper wheel studs you could use ordinary wheel nuts to retain the wheel to the carrier and that gives you some spare nuts in an emergency
  11. Come on now, they filter out squirrels, mice etc, don't be unfair
  12. That's a good price - I bet a brand new one is twice that...
  13. If they have any sense they will take the money from the new organisation and then stick their advert in the bin instead of printing it I think the "go bust and reappear the next day" loophole is completely inexcusable.
  14. D1 wheelnuts would not fit as D2 studs are smaller. The photo isn't that clear but if they are what they look like, you could use the nuts intended for a steel wheel on a D2, the base spec vehicles had steel wheels as standard.
  15. I thought I read somewhere that Exmoor Trim made the soft tops for the LR special editions but I might have dreamed that...
  16. See Ashcroft Transmissions website for info on the diff lock upgrade. Some parts are currently unavailable, last I heard.
  17. I don't have time to look for a link but I think there is V8 diagnostic info in our Tech Archive forum
  18. The best tyres on snow IMHO are all-terrains, really smooth road tyres aren't that great and full on mud-terrains aren't that great. I think the theory being that AT's have lots of sipes in the tread (=grippy edges) but whatever the theory the reality is quite noticeable. Road tyres without any siping e.g. Avon Rangers (the old type crossply, not what they sell as a "Ranger" now) or the Rangemaster, are truly deeply scary on snow and ice. A good mud terrain like a BFG is certainly better than something like a Rangemaster on ice (I have BFG MTs on the 110) but not nearly as sure footed as a good all terrain. BFG ATs are good as are the General AT2s, for best effect (and assuming the road speeds allow it) drop a few psi out of the tyres for a bigger contact patch, it makes a noticeable difference in really bad weather but obviously you can't run them fast like that. Also beware of an inch or two of slush with any wide tyre as aquaplaning on slush suddenly becomes much more interesting
  19. Why not ask Kenlowe they probably do a Td5 version? I've never seen one fitted in anything, though I always thought they were a good idea. My vehicle now is parked about 100 yards from the house so I would need a good extension lead
  20. Sensible dealers order all D3s with a full size spare as standard It does hang down a lot though.
  21. I agree with all of that. Having said that does anybody actually know of a chassis being bent by the winch forces like that?
  22. Mine does something like that in the D2 if you start the engine and set off immediately from stone cold (sitting overnight, start, into drive and away within a few seconds) it will hold onto 1st gear till about 2500-3000rpm even on very light throttle, after that first change up it is fine. By the time I have shut the garage door and left it idling for that time, it is fine, so it doesn't bother me as its rarely left anywhere else. Not something I would spend money on unless some cogs come out through the side
  23. As said, body filler and paint is the best idea for that.
