  1. Don't think weight will come in to it but it will accelerate quicker than with a slightly stuck on drum handbrake and less smelly too Though I have to say I have never had a problem with 300Tdi handbrakes, the old ones used to seize up but not had it once on any of my 300Tdis...
  2. I think they have too but mine's still in the box somewhere...
  3. As Lars says it has no belt, it is a chain which shouldn't need changing. A bit like my V8 chain which shouldn't but is knacked at 37k miles...
  4. I've got a Rebel 4x4 alloy steering guard which to be honest will take most knocks even if it isn't the same shape afterwards a half moon diff guard which I have had for ever and now a Southdown towing/tank guard on the back. That's my underneath finished, ain't going to bother with a rear diff guard as I don't often reverse into rocks at high speed (famous last words...)
  5. It should go off after about 30 sec if the engine is not running, though I think some of the later ones might be longer maybe 5 min? have you had the engine ECU replaced lately? It should run all the time once the engine is started though.
  6. A 110 in Rimini Red looks smart, there are a couple of 06MY ones here in that colour. I was thinking about getting that but eventually decided to go with Tonga Green as the next best thing to the best colour ever (Epsom Green, now discontinued)
  7. http://www.thermoguard.com.au/ Very helpful chap!
  8. Hello & welcome Bonatti grey is what you have, and you should dump the caravan and get a boat, its much more fun
  9. In that case people who work in the tyre industry are talking poppycock because on the last two sets of new tyres I have had I have had steering shake at about 45mph and in both cases it has been wheel balance! Not saying it is that but I am definitely saying: don't rule it out unless it has actually been checked!
  10. Mine was AUS$315 which I think is about £100... corrected to say £132 approx at current rates (and the $315 included postage to the UK and the EGR mounting plate for a 300Tdi)
  11. wots wrong wiv dat - its still got teeth!
  12. I don't know 100% but I am pretty sure the "flare" is a lot greater on the metalwork of the Td5 arches so I don't really think they will fit, or at least not easily. Not sure about the overall arch dimensions though...
  13. Why hasn't anybody left a comment saying how wonderful I am?

I will think you are wonderful if I find out about my Diff Lock

  14. In response to a question I have just had, the supplier of my Thermoguard is here: http://www.thermoguard.com.au/index.html I got it posted from Australia to the Falklands via somebody in the UK so it should be possible to get one sent anywhere!
  15. Could be just moisture that collected in the system, run it for a while with the heater fan on full but the a/c switched off then try it again, this will allow the evaporator to dry out completely, what I believe happens is that if you have the a/c on when the humidity is high the moisture can freeze onto the evaporator and then melts when the car is sitting giving dampness in the system which can also produce nasty smells I usually run my D2 a/c on "economy" when not needed for just this reason as otherwise I find that you get a blast of damp air when you first start the engine which mists the windows up then you do need the a/c to clear it!
  16. ESR4686 fits all Td5s Defender and Discovery
  17. No the 1.8 K series has a Rover PG1 gearbox and the Td4 has a Getrag box I think, it certainly isn't the same. You will need a ton of electronics to make the Td4 engine stand any chance of running, plus you will need to get all the immobiliser circuits working correctly. I have no idea where you'd start and it isn't a job I would like to do myself, the Td4 is a complicated little motor! A list of what will not cause you problems will be a good deal shorter than a list of what will cause you problems!
  18. I think you can get to the lock by taking off the interior trim. Not sure about the hinge pins, but I doubt it is as easy as it sounds!
  19. Mine aren't red and never were don't think they are the same fitting as D1
  20. Hello & welcome I think a 2" lift will accommodate that size but possibly only with a bit of trimming 245/75R16 are certainly OK with a bit of a lift
  21. Don't think so, somebody here ordered a set of the full wheelarch covers to put on in place of the little "spats" that fit just at the rear of the arches on base models, and I am pretty sure when I looked at them they were just stick on, though it was a while ago now
  22. Probably a reference to the fact the engine appears in Transits in an apparently unrestricted form The limiter might also be to do with tyre speed ratings?
  23. Peel them off and change them is probably the easiest. They do come off as they are just stuck on with a sort of double sided tape stuff. I have tried all the bumper black stuff and it doesn't really work, the best ones will bring back the black for about a month or so but it soon goes again.
  24. depends on what V8, later serpentine engines it will definitely not as they have a much bigger (36mm spanner size) nut on the coupling I think the 200Tdi and early 3.5 V8s are the same, not sure about 300Tdi though
  25. As I have always said, fitting electricity to a vehicle that leaks is a bad idea Commiserations, and another tick on my "did the right thing" sheet... Defender ABS systems always have and probably always will be a liability.
