  1. Need to be blind rivets obviously, otherwise they ain't airtight!
  2. Expensive one may help if v big wheels fitted, other than that don't see the point really.
  3. I take my 300 one off in the winter and only put it on when off road or towing.
  4. Defender being a different wheelbase would mean fairly major body chopping or extending to fit.
  5. Check the splines on the rear propshaft. I had this on my old 90 and it took me months and months to find and I changed nearly everything. Pull the handbrake on hard and rock the vehicle gently back and forth against the handbrake and it should show up. I can only guess it was oscillations in the wheel speeds going over rough ground, but it was really noticeable inside the vehicle despite there being not that much wear in the prop splines - but a new prop cured it.
  6. assuming the valve isn't permanently stuck open (and if it is, a bit of percussive maintenance with Special Tool No. 1 may repair it) all you need to do is block off the vacuum pipes at the modulator unit (usually fixed to drivers side wing). No vacuum = no valve operation Last one I did I pulled off the pipes (feed pipe to vacuum pump, and the pipe to the valve) pushed a 3/16" blind pop rivet into each connector, small cable tie around the outside to keep it a tight fit and cable tied the pipes out of the way. Total cost about £1.00
  7. So it is - it was still off this morning (lunchtime UK time) so must have only come back up this afternoon. Bet somebody got a b&ll&^&ing over that one!
  8. Fax back from then this morning confirming they are still "alive and kicking" Phew!
  9. 650MB errr no thanks that would be 2/3 my monthly bandwidth cap
  10. check it is not the air con drains blocked, not sure where they are on a Freelander but it would almost certainly cause windscreen misting and soggy footwells. aircon cools the air and removes moisture and the moisture would normally drain out underneath, if the drain tube gets blocked or kinked then the water has to go somewhere!
  11. Sent them a fax to ask and the fax number still works so fingers crossed!
  12. Looking at www.bearmach.com you get a holding page from a domain registering company, and the email addresses are bouncing back email as undeliverable from addresses that worked only a few weeks ago. Anybody heard anything? Hope not as their service is excellent and so are their prices.
  13. Would have to check but I am fairly sure you get MAF readings from a Td5 throughout the rev range... Not sure when I will next have a Td5 on the computer at work but I'll have a look if I remember.
  14. I think the whole thing is a fiddle. I signed it, but my name wasn't on the list immediately afterwards, and the number didn't change, the list of names changes each time you refresh the page but the number doesn't change! I like one of the rejected petitions - "Stop the e-petition team from censoring e-petitions"!!!
  15. My Freelander bars (when I had a Freelander) had a key to release them I think, is there a lock of any sort on yours? Otherwise it may be a grinder job
  16. Straight 6 BMW which as far as I know has nothing to do in any way with any other LR engine except it may be a relative of the straight six 2.8 petrol used in South African Defenders. Same engine as the 525d used I think? Not a great match by all accounts, though I have never driven one - would probably be nice in something lighter like a 90 though edited to add ... and related to the Td4 in the Freelander (also a BMW engine)
  17. Welcome No idea as to the answer to your question, but welcome anyway
  18. Mo, Your punishment is to go and smite diesel_jim repeatedly about the face with a wheel brace for being cheeky
  19. Yes it is from the engine type fitted - 200Tdi (1989-94) or 300Tdi (1994-98 or 2007 in some places ) I believe 200Tdi is from the fact that it had "nearly" 200lb ft of torque (195 in fact! marketing for you...) The original Tdi engine was called Project Gemini, then there was a Gemini 2 (not sure what happened to that) and Gemini 3 became 300Tdi, so I read somewhere anyway.
  20. If you were to double line a Milemarker ... that would be 4700kg x 2 not far off Too much is better than not enough IMHO
  21. http://www.t-max.com.au/products/ac_taipan.html http://www.t-max.com.au/products/ac_viper.html one of the above?
  22. Its generally reckoned that you can increase the 12psi boost of the 200, to the same 15psi as a 300 runs at, without problems. I'd think twice about pushing a 16 year old engine above that though... You can also do the usual fuelling tweaks to the pump but same comments apply.
  23. Salt water is VERY bad for ANY vehicle and will ruin the electrics quite apart from corrosion to everything else but apart from that, no reason it should be any different to any others. These two Freelander 2's were happy enough in the surf ...though I wouldn't have bought either of them afterwards TBH if you get into beach sand in any vehicle where you are sinking in to a depth that would ground a Freelander then you are probably f***ed anyway!
