  1. I always understood that leaded fuel "plated" the HO2S with lead and so they didn't work and led to the vehicle running very rich? I didn't notice any difference between closed and open loop economy in my Discovery but that is a Thor engine of course, different EFI system entirely.
  2. I suggest you fit the green one, disconnect the oxygen sensors and run it for a bit to make sure it is all ok (it should be - I have just never done this particular mod) before you start wielding any more spanners
  3. Solenoid on the starter motor I should think. Try biffing it with a hammer (if you can even see it on a Td4? possibly not) otherwise being a newish LR I doubt you can get any bits apart from a complete starter motor. Console yourself with the fact the Td4 starters are not nearly as unreliable as Td5 and TDv6 ones...
  4. Both, but on this occasion I was thinking about the pump
  5. I have run my cat Discovery 2 (it was built wrong) on leaded for several years with no problem, they have only just introduced unleaded here. Exhaust just smells funny that is all. You can get a non cat exhaust system for Discovery 1 because my old Discovery (1996MY) was a non cat one, and this would be the best option and may give a slight power increase. The engine ECU can be told to use a "non cat tune" using a "tune select resistor" in the wiring harness (I'm assuming it is a standard 14CUX 3.9 V8), the resistor is built in to the harness under the drivers side dash (RHD) and there are non-cat low compression, non cat high compression and cat high compression ones I think, maybe others. Simple job to change it and the ECU will then ignore the oxygen sensors and run "open loop".
  6. You think YOU are in the deep south? Amateur southerners, tut
  7. OK well I don't know the internal plumbing of a TD injector pump, it may be different to a 300Tdi so what I said above may not apply.
  8. Ah but you should use "300Tdi". Anybody who just puts "Tdi" is not being precise enough and will eventually learn from their mistakes. [/self righteous git mode] Of course you could search for "veeeeeAte"
  9. The SV Police conversions to Discovery 2 have a second battery in behind the trim in a plastic battery box, as you suggest. PITA to get at/out though!!!
  10. Talking to Keith last night his main grievance was that it goes "scraunch" over almost any sort of bump at all, even pot holes in the road!
  11. No. It was developed so that people that search for "V8" think there is nothing on here and go away
  12. What sort of engine is it - I'm assuming a 300Tdi in what I say here: I may be wrong but I can't immediately see how a leaking 'fram would pressurise the tank anyway. There is no diesel inside the compensator unit on either side of the diaphragm so an increase in pressure inside there wouldn't do anything unless it is blowing through other seals inside the injector pump - and in any case there is a breather pipe out to atmosphere from the bottom side of the diaphragm anyway so excess pressure would vent out through that (little short rubber thing on the back of the pump). Also you would lose LOADS of power if the diaphragm was leaking that badly, and if it was pressurising the fuel lines it would probably also put air into the fuel which would stop the engine.... Lots of reasons why I regret to advise I think they are talking blx
  13. Welcome I don't know the answer to your problem, except that it probably does need the jet, but welcome anyway!
  14. Does anybody else think that the springs in that picture are the wrong way round Front springs several inches longer than the rears? Not on every other set of springs I have ever seen...
  15. I looked at it last night and while I didn't measure it there is no apparent difference side to side in the location of the chassis mounts, when compared to the location of the gbox crossmember. The build tolerances of the chassis are not that tight anyway (look at the fit between box and body on a range of 130s to see what I mean! some are tight, some you can get your hand in)
  16. Keith, just a thought, try turning the spring upside down It isn't clear from the photos whether they have a "top" and a "bottom" but many springs do with the coils being a different rate in one section to another. May do nothing, but may stop the noise... I have to change my wheels in the next day or two so I'll have a look at mine and take a photo with the wheels off, it is about the same age as yours.
  17. I suppose part of the reason they don't want to do little jobs could be entirely due to their reputation though - I can see that they COULD (nothing meant against you or indeed anybody else on here) end up in a situation where they had done part of "a job" and then the engine later went bang through no fault of anything they did and then it would/could/might have resulted in "ooooooh that engine was done by T*****s" publicity A bit like the reason Dave Ashcroft doesn't sell diff pegging kits. As I said, nothing meant against any individual
  18. Indeed. A NATO hitch at 300mph can spoil your day. And your wallet. And your head.
  19. Interesting - I have dealt with them a couple of times by email and not had any problems but it doesn't sound good. I suspect they probably get a lot of people ringing them for "free advice" and maybe he jumped to the conclusion that this is what you wanted? One of the proprietors of the company who you have not named posts on here from time to time so may see this.
  20. Buy one from a dealer - it won't be that expensive. You just need to ask for a hose from intercooler to inlet manifold for a non EGR engine.
  21. I think the pump needed on the last one I saw was something of the order of £600 just from memory!
