  1. Assuming you are talking about the forward facing scoop things, I have seen this kind of thing on some pretty large trucks out here. Not sure what size they are but certainly larger than the Safari ones. A Transport parts supplier might be worth a look. Steve.
  2. Bill, you might like to use that Michelin link to take you to Stanfords online shop, there was a heap of other stuff for Morocco listed there as well, could be worth a browse. Steve.
  3. You may already have one, but Michelin do a map for Morocco, # 742, Stanfords have them for not a lot Michelin 742 Steve.
  4. Do you know how long a minute is to a girly girl with places to go & things to do, its like forever  Steve.
  5. Possibly a slight thread hijack but staying in the same area, the turbo lube kit that Agriemech do, seems to be a small reservoir that filles while driving & empties out when the oil pressure drops. Anyone fitted one?, is this how they work? Plenty of guys have Turbo timers in NZ but I've never considered them essential, wouldn't mind something a bit simpler for SWMBO who tends toward the impatient side & strenuously resists attempts at education. Steve.
  6. I'm with Moglite on this one, I've a "Bighorn" as my between Landies driver, no passion but it does everything totally well, haven't had to touch it other than routine maintenance & things I "wanted" to do :D Steve
  7. The TSL Bogger page on the Interco website Bogger recommends 8" wide rims so your 6s are probably too narrow. Too wide or too narrow a rim can stress sidewalls beyond design limits & cause failure, hence why these recommended sizes are specified. Whether or not your 6s would is anybodys guess & the fact that someone else is running them may not be a recommendation either. As you say, its not for highway use so if it all goes pair shaped you're not going to put the general public at risk. My gut feeling is you would be better off with at least a 7" rim, others may disagree. Steve.
  8. Hope you can do something with some of that Bill, just remember, pics will be obligatory :D Steve.
  9. Hi Bill, have a look at this site (sorry, its in german) where there is a guy building a lift top camper on a Santana PS10. Santana Camper It appears that the lift up section has a sliding/stacking floor at the rain channel level which is slid forward under the low section making it possible to stand up in the rear & then later the floor is slid back /destacked for sleepng. A google search on "Aufstelldach" should bring up more of these. Steve.
  10. I've seen these reviewed in a couple of the Aus 4x4 mags, had a drive of one a while back, sort of like an updated Defender with a 4.5litre V8 common rail intercooled turbo diesel. I hate to say it but it was really very nice to drive & seemed to have sh!t loads of room & plenty of space underneath for long range fuel tanks etc. Hmmmm. :D Link hereTLC 70 sw Steve.
  11. Kaymar in Australia make one that is well suitable for a ute with a drop down tail gate. They are similar I think to the ones on the Frogs Island site. This guys on AULRO made his own one Wheel Carrier, a good write up with good pics, I might have wanted to make the bottom arm a bit longer , say out to the edge of the tyre, just for more convenient access. This link has some info on the Kaymar carrier on a NAS(?) 90 & a link to the Kaymar website Kaymar Steve.
  12. I was having a wander thru google a while ago on the subject of series disc brakes & more specifically Rocky Mountain series disc brakes when I found this, Rocky Mountain Disc brakes It would seem that they have had their caliper mounting brackets bent /pressed out of a piece of heavy plate. This would be another approach. I'm still trying to get my head around the longer hub they use, I suspect it has something to do with the clearance thing between swivel housing & the inside of the wheel, its obviously a pretty tight spot but as I don't have one here to play with I'm struggling to visualise the geometry involved. Something like this with a standard hub would be the go. I know a guy locally that used to do conversions using a cast disc bolted to the rear of the hub & Toyota Corolla calipers, sounds wimpey but another friend who had some on his series 1 said they were really good, 'specially after river crossings. Maybe its all relative to what was there b4. Steve.
  13. Ali, at risk of being a party pooper, I'm fairly sure that the Isuzu motor that was used in late Stage 1s & 110s up to the arrival of the 200 TDi donk was the 4BD1 motor which is a light truck motor of 3.9 litres, not the 2.8litre 4JB1 motor which is the one under discussion. Steve.
  14. Al, an idea I've been mulling on for a while now is how to give a pop up top type vehicle hard sides to the extension. I never liked the idea of canvas sides, no insulation against heat & cold & bu99er all protection against people with nasty pointy things in places where nasty people might live. Over our summer just gone (ended today by the feel of it ) I saw one of these ALiner campers which got me thinking that either a 110 sw based camper or something with a larger back body such as these110camper could have a similar principle incorporated into the top. Lift up the lid, still with canvas sides for immediate protection against weather, dust storms, nosey bu99ers etc, & then lift up from inside a back panel to lock under the roof & then then sides to lock into the rear panel & the roof. Side & rear panels made from alloy foam sanwich panels like most RVs are nowadays. Good insulation & fairly much people with nasty pointy things proof & not too heavy. HTH Steve.
  15. That is an exquisite piece of work, makes the Airfix kits I used to make up as a kid look a bit basic. There exists in the US a thing called a Thunder Mustang(sic) ,we have one example in NZ, which is about 2/3-3/4 scale, it is powered by a V12 engine originally developed for off shore power boats, about 600 hp & in the air looks & sounds as close to a full size P-51 as makes no difference with performance to match if not better. A Spitfire built on these lines would be simply fabulous I reckon. Steve.
  16. Sorry, can't get in, "forbidden entry" it says Steve.
  17. Martin, if you do get those ones, just be aware that if they're like the ones I have (& they certainly look like it) as you tighten them, you get the threaded piece protruding from the top clamp & depending on the application this can lead to clearance probs. This possibly isn't a hassle with Land Rover applications but on ordinary cars (which some of us own & work on too ) it is a right bu66er. I solved this by reversing the clamps which is quite a bit of work, but it might be worth trying to find one that works the other way ( don't know if there is such a thing ?) Steve.
  18. Rocky Mountain? Not heard of them doing disc brake conversions but then, theres a lot of stuff I've never heard of. :D Steve
  19. I think this might refer to several sightings of S1s in 633 Squadron, a movie about Mosquito fighter bombers attacking a German rocket fuel plant in a Norwegian fiord. Bill, A meteor was basically a Merlin with the superchargers for high altitude ops removed & some of the alloy components replaced by steel. Later in WW2 it powered the Cromwell & Comet tanks, the Comet was the last of the British cruiser tanks with a good gun based on the 17 pounder anti tank gun, decent Armour, other than its hull bottom & a good cross country performance. It was generally thought of as being a match for all but the Tiger tanks. Some info from Wikipedia with some links to the various tanks it ran in meteor "Scuse me while I slip out of my anorak Steve.
  20. Hugo, ebay doesn't really do much in NZ, we have a local thing called trademe, always a few landies on it Trademe Sorry, don't know much about importing, hopefully someone else will chip in. If not I'll try to rustle up some other links. I've just come off night shift so off to grab some shuteye. B) Steve.
  21. David, how the heck is a bloke 'sposed to know if he wants to copy your stuff if you don't make your pics clickable to big pics. C'mon now, play the game :D Steve
  22. [anorak mode]just been having a nostagia kick with a DVD of 633 Squradron, superb flying scenes & a bit poignant for me, my uncle was killed in Mosquitos during the war ( he was a navigator). Just after the scene where a Mosquito crashes during training (flew into a cliff) but what do the observing officers run toward? None other than a Swb S1 soft top. I've seen heaps of mentions of the S1 in "Ice Cold in Alex" but never seen this one mentioned B4.[/anorak mode] Had to share that Steve.
  23. They look similar to the Land Rover deep dish alloys & while I agree with Bish re chromey blingy chav type alloys on a RRC, I'd put these into the same category as the LSE alloys if they're not the same. Definitely go along with the sentiments re 8spokes. 'specially white. Modulars are OK looking IHMO Steve.
  24. What he said, plus some paper towels to soak it out after, you wouldn't know it'd been there. I did this on a wool carpet after dripping the after effects of an oil change up the stairs & into the lounge.(Don't ask) SWMBO wasn't well pleased but the brakecleaner saved the day B) Our carpet was wool with a jute backing. Don't know how it would go on synthetic stuff but it was recommended to me by a carpet installer who said to leave commercial cleaning products alone. Steve.
  25. Nope sorry(depending on your point of view) I think the wheel boxes are still there. A heap more pics here 2007 Defender I did a lighten, brighten & sharpen on the pic with the seat folded up. 12row down, 1st column. Sure looked like seat boxes to me. Not only will you have your outside leg cocked around at an angle but that thigh will be sitting on a dirty great piece of hinge mech. Yuk!!! Stuffed if I can see why they didn't do like Santana with the PS10 & move the seat boxes wider by the amount that the axles were made wider in 1983. They're still using the same boxes as were used with narrow series axles. Ok I guess, for those who want to go to huge tyres & uber articulation. Oh plop, sorry forgot, thats everyone maybe they got it right for a change Steve
