  1. it does decrease the value from a non genuine point of veiw, but then some peopl like the idea of having a 12v military vehicle.
  2. yes-ok so i was a little confused! been 2 years nearly since i last touched a mill!
  3. cheers-its not worth me posting pictures as youve just confirmed my fear (and the reason for my spanner throwing!). originally i was told the replacement box was from a disco, then someone took the code and said it wasnt-that it was a defender one and it would go straight in-o well! well i'll stick it on the forum for sale straight away and start saving for ashcrofts. i know it is possible to change the tail gear etc, etc but its not worth the hassle to do it and id prefer the warrenty! cheers all
  4. you could even say your a representative of here-think how happy theyd be to come on and find a thread speculating about their vehicle!
  5. with the fact that its open to interpretation, in theory isnt replacing a rear crosmember/welding plates over rust holes mods to the chassis-if you had a real pedantic/ridiculous tester. even if not, at what point do reapirs to the chassis count as modified? i know the strength of weld, or something in an mot, but hey. just my thoughts!
  6. thats it, i will actually come this time-without landy, but im coming!its ten minuites and if i dont them im going to go mad! if i time it right, i can go to country market car boot then wander up the road after, then go to the pub-what a day!
  7. thats what i ment!with the machine with the letters!! also, with the ali sheet, you could get a graphics company to lay vinyl onto sheet for you. would look good, but probably be cheaper then screen printing, and could be done onto plastic sheet too.
  8. sorry-been a long day and the guy i was with refers to it as first motion shaft so have i! yeh it was input shaft-longer of two that goes through bellhousing etc, i believe theres an issue with short stick ones from disco 200tdi's but i was told that the new box wasnt and was suitable for my 90. i will clean old one up but it wont be for a week as its a few miles away and weekends are the only chance i get currently, so i thought id ask if anyone knew off the top of thier head! cheers
  9. why dont you get that tape thats popular in american-its goes on desks and stuff. or just laminate card?! cheap and cherrful:lol:
  10. today i finally got round to actually doing my gearbox-had removed front prop, floor, and a few other bits. today i removed everything else-discovered more rust on my chassis and eventually dropped g and t box out. aprt from needing a damn good cean t box seems ok. the gearbox i had bought to replace it upon inspection appears to be completely different; first motion shaft is thicker on old box then new box, and longer on new box. also, i think the output shafts are slightly different (i was quite annoyed by this point and had thrown a spanner across the field which i had to pick up so i cant remember!) previously when i gave the code on here i was informed it would work in my 90. i cant remember who it was who said it, and im not complaining or pointing fingers-im not bitching at all! just a little confused. any way codes on (new) box 5340197099E T thing 5586 HRC1509 R2G4 2x 12 1 87 old box i couldnt get any codes off as it was too dirty, but its an ex military 2.5 na diesel with the original gear box. im not just being inept am i? any advice- i think perhaps a trip to ashcrofts may be in order! geoff
  11. if its on a q it could really be anything couldnt it? stollys are great until the have break downs!
  12. this has been covered many times before and its not a particularly easy problem to solve. when mine went on to my gf's old dears drive my rad went missing and it had a note left on it asking if i wanted to sell it-coincidently in the same few days. anyway, thats by the by.its worth taking the reg just in case and trying to make it as hard as possibe. sadly i think everyone has, or knows someone who has had an incident:( i remember buying mine landy of an ex gf's dad in huggate? near hull. went on a green lane up onto hills and there was a transit up there-it was muddy and im still to this day impressed as to how it got up there
  13. cant really say any different-they work, but the later engines are better-more efficient, more grunt, etc, etc and for the price of them its worth saving up and getting one. im currently saving up for a 200tdi and counting down the days til i can over take a lorry on the a3. although on the plus side, the 19j's are redily avaliable for next to nothing so if your happy with it you could judt swap ike for like?
  14. if its just the mounting hubs that are different it should be alright-or have i mis read that?
  15. just as a thought, but has anyone considered actually ringing the old bill for a definitive answer. or emailing. i wouldnt know where to start, but im sure someone does!
  16. needess to say, his new design for the wolf was meet with raised eyebrows
  17. Instantly his friends were dubious as to wether it was quite ready for an SVA
  18. i paid 1300 i think 2 years ago, i was 19 and had just passed on a 2.5 n/a! that was gaulling- i got 70 going down hill! its now 400 ish with a years no claims and im 21. the problem with named drivers is that unless its a wife or direct family it dosnt make a difference-which is annoying. theres also some insurance loophole where if you get caught speeding/pulled and charged on more then one occasion then they argue your main driver. and the no claims is more important-i believe direct line do no claims for drivers, and i know cis do it, but you have to then have a single policy to get it-if that makes sense. i think alot of it comes down to vehicle value-my 90 was worth 800, as opposed to a few grands worth of td5. and in crashes young people are usually blamed! sadly mate you'll just have to lump it- try getting a quote 3rd party, but seeing as your 6months through its not worth changing. courses wise, check what difference pass plus would make to your premium first-some dont accept it and it dosnt directly relate to a years no claims. and theres an advanced drivers course which did make a big difference to premiums. there was a company which did a crazy policy in which you paid a high policy for 6 months, then it counted as a years no claims-not sure who it was, but i wish id done it! at the end of the day, as much of a pain as it is, you can understand why it costs so much. i know at least 3 of my mates wrote off cars withing the first 6 months. the only solution is to not drive! roll on being 25-or get a girlfriend whos dad is a broker!!
  19. at no point did he mention going off road-he even said about pulling out a junctions! off road is a different kettle of fish. i merely gave my opinion-i understand frustration of driving a land rover and asked the purpose of re-mapping. is it being driven in london or built up areas alot, or motorway driving and to understand if its actually needed, i.e. wether a slight change in driving style would make it easier to pull out at junctions without what could become a expensive and un needed modification. i also know from previous experience of being 19 and driving a land rover that it took me a while. i said it makes no difference to me-go wild, lets put a w16 in and go the whole hog shall we?
  20. i was 19 and had a 2.5 n/a 90-drive one of those and then you'll understand no power! this might be flogging a dead horse but why exactly do you want it re mapped? "I came straight from driving a nippy hatchback so i'm finding pulling out of junctions isnt how it used to be" not trying to sound funny or just repeat other people, but it is a land rover not a cosworth. i dont know you or how long youve been driving and dont take it the wrong way but you do have to drive them differently. the fact you drive a van with no power steering for work makes no difference. my girlfriend drove transits for 3 years for work but i wouldnt expect her to get into the landy and be able to drive it-every vehicle is different and as far as i knew you change your style to match the vehicle as opposed to the vehicle to match you. get it remapped if you want, it makes no difference to me but from what ive read youve just filled every stereo type that young men get and the reason i pay so much for my insurance.
  21. slight tangent-i pulled over to help a bloke once who had a toyota hit his band new 110-bent the back steps. i offered assistance and he wasnt interested till i said i had one at which point i became his best friend! i see loads on the a3 at weekends-its like a convoy at times and everyone waves
  22. ok, np-im sure ive got some cash in PP left from selling stuff! i just realised you need a size. i better measure myself!
  23. can i get a hoodie and a t shirt. and can i also give the money direct to you?
