  1. Was that a freudian slip Jules! John
  2. I believe SteveG has one fitted to his 90. Have a look at his pictures in members vehicles. John
  3. Matt Ralph (Western) is away, otherwise he would have most probably come your rescue by now. He should be back in a week. Les usually checks in at lunchtime and late afternoon. Why not send him a PM in case he misses this thread. John
  4. Why not post this notice in the Forum Calendar (see above tab). John
  5. Try the local tourist board. Some sites appear to be closed in November! John
  6. Post worthy of inclusion in technical archive by any chance? Might be helpful to someone in future! John
  7. My 110 has an SD internal cage, two hoops connected together at the top with twin longitudinal bars. Not a complete solution but will increase our survival chances in a roll situation. Must remember to foam pad them where heads could make contact! John
  8. Welcome Sharpy. Do a search for Land Rover clubs in your area and for off road sites. We do not keep a register of Land Rover Clubs however I am sure there will be a few near you with the Peak District being so close. There will also be some in Lincs where there are also some good pay and play venues. I am sure someone with more local knowledge to you will be along to offer advice! John
  9. Ashcroft are usually very helpful with advice, rather than just trying to sell you something, hence my comment. They will know which bearings to use (Series or not) and I am sure would be happy to advise to that effect. John
  10. If you can buy two batteries of the same type and size at the same time, so they are less likely to discharge into one another as they average out the voltage so to speak. As you are looking at the XCharge look also at the batteries Simon sells. He will have done detailed research before choosing what to supply, so seek his advice. Simon also has a forum discount so let him know! He even has a battery/Xcharge offer - http://www.x-eng.co.uk/X-Batteries.asp John
  11. I have OME springs and shocks all round on my 110 and cannot fault the handling or ride. Worth the extra cost in my opinion. John
  12. Why not speak to Ashcroft's who I am sure will give you sound advice. John
  13. Quite a worrying trend Chris for this trip John
  14. Odyssey batteries can be discharged to c.80% with a service life of over 400 cycles at that rate of discharge. The 1500 and 1700 are 68AH giving you 55AH useable power per charging cycle. Compared to an 85HA leisure battery where the safe level of useable power is only 42.5AH Odyssey do however recharge much faster than a conventional battery. Odyssey also will take a charge in high temperature situations for example above 45C degrees, unlike conventional batteries. So if you are driving in the outback during the daytime with conventional batteries at 50C do not expect them to be fully charged at the end of the day. Some travellers carry a remote area battery charger so they can charge overnight see here - http://www.boab.biz/Pages/Remote%20Area%20Battery%20Charger.htm Odyssey are very expensive. So you need to consider if the price justifies your needs. I would not be without them on an expedition or long range travel trip in remote hot and or cold environments. I have an Odyssey 2250 and a 2150 (4400 CCA cold cranking amps in total) which give me 226AH total capacity of which 180 can be used before recharging is recommended. Even at this discharge level there is still plenty of juice left to start my 110. One under each front seat as they are too large to both go on the passenger side. For split charging I use a VSR (volt sensitive relay) here - http://www.power-store.com/view-item.asp?itemid=1149&id=196& Along with a DCM to tell me what the batteries are up to see here - http://www.power-store.com/view-item.asp?itemid=954&id=160& Do the research and then decide what is best for your plans and budget. John
  15. You can do some adjustment at the master cylinder piston rod end, try a search in our technical archive. John
  16. Do a search and read up, it's not a debate that will be given any further airtime on here. For what it's worth I had heard that Durite the very well respected electrical components manufacturer from Harwich are apparently backing Extreme 4x4. Let's hope their good reputation is not sullied by any connection with the former Scorpion Racing management and their indefensible business ethics. John
  17. James Take your pick from here - http://leisure.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/products/paper-maps/paper-maps-ordnance-survey-great-britain/paper-maps-ordnance-survey-great-britain-os-landranger-map John
  18. Martin The routes are down to individuals, so any route taken is at your own risk, if you don't like the route of the vehicles in front, you can divert. I doubt very much that anyone will be intending to damage their vehicles given the need to travel home. N.Wales is likely to be a lot less severe that what you would expect to find crossing Africa, so a roof rack and tent should help with the learning curve of your and your vehicles limitations in an off road environment. John
  19. I have made a new cover out of 5mm chequer plate with a cut-out where the terminal protrudes. John
  20. Firstly this is not an organized trip, just a group of Land Rover enthusiasts turning up at the same time and place to do some off roading! Anyone is welcome to turn-up as long as we have enough people to lead the way, not an issue so far. You may find a hotel car park to sleep over in, or a campsite where others may be staying. As it stands I suspect we will all meet at say 09.30 Saturday morning in the car park (lots of space) of The Wild Pheasant on the A5 1/2mile north of Llangollen. If others wish to team up and start from an alternative place thats up to them. Once assembled we will head off on groups of 4 possibly 5 vehicles to different starting points as yet to be determined. Finishing the day before dusk at respective accommodation then meeting up if desired for a beer or two and something to eat. Sunday probably a shorter day out for most so they can get home, otherwise similar format to Saturday. Hope this helps. John
  21. 255/85/16 MT BFG 255/85/16 STT Cooper Both 33" and both expensive! Don't know of any others. John
  22. Ten rooms are now reserved at The Wild Pheasant for individuals to book! They will take a booking for B&B at £40pppn (2 people per room) with the choice to upgrade to the Dinner option (£15 for 3 courses) nearer the date for one or both nights. I will book the dinner option for the Friday. I have sent a PM to those already on the list with the booking code to ensure they get the discounted rate. Anyone else wanting to book please post your interest and I will PM you. John
  23. Turbo - 2 nights - Friday/Saturday As there are now 5 people interested I will contact the Wild Pheasant for a reference that I can post here which you can quote when you book, to ensure you get the prices quoted above. Paul - thanks, it's the White Waters Country Hotel a mile going north out of town. No rooms available that weekend! Will you be able to recommend some routes please, as I know you are not free. Perhaps you could come up one evening while we are there to say hello. John
  24. Kev any advice you can give is most appreciated Are you planning to come with us and if so would you be able to lead a group or give us some advance guidance as to routes, so we can see the best of what the area has to offer please. Thanks John
