  1. I have an as new MSS rear door cooker cabinet shelf for sale, due to a change of plan. Let me know if you are interested. John
  2. Some expedition travellers have been known to slow cook guinea pigs in foil on the manifold. Useful when it's a long day on the road. John
  3. Dave Welcome to the forum. Here's a quote from GBMUD that offers sound advice to beginners. "Your local County Council Rights of Way and highways dept will be able to help you identify legally drivable routes and where the TROs are. Alternatively you could join a local club and go on some of their green lane days. There are also private companies who will take you out for a fee or groups like GLASS or CRAG who get involved in green lane maintenance and also do green lane driving days without charge for their members. Many people are fairly reluctant to give out details of ROWs publicly or to someone they do not know - astonishing as it seems there are some people who choose not to treat the countryside and ROW with respect which gives us all a bad name." John
  4. Mike I have found the £8-10 Ever Ready Energizer LED Head Torches to be very reliable they use 3AAA batteries, all in the head unit, 3 light intensities and a red for night map work. So light I don't even notice it's on my head. Don't spend a fortune, LED's are constantly improving, with newer better models appearing constantly. I'd wait until the development phase levels out then buy once mass manufacture brings the prices in range. John
  5. Speak to Rakeway in the UK, they know a thing or two about uprated clutches. John
  6. Yes it is the "normal" M&D uprated clutch c.£200!! They said they had not had any problems with over a 100 sold! Have ordered a Rakeway version said to be much stronger. John
  7. Tony Flywheel was clean with no marks. Clutch cover plate had a few small heat marks. "Uncle Les" was in charge so I am sure the change over was done correctly. John
  8. Replaced the clutch 3/4 weeks ago on my 110. 2.8TGV engine, R380 gearbox, Rocky Mountain overdrive, 33" tyres, vehicle is quite heavy with expedition kit/winch & bumper, guards etc. Concerns - Light juddering in first and reverse, from installation of new clutch, an uprated AP version with additional clamping force from M&D Engineering. When driving at 60mph in overdrive and 5th gear a vibration occurs in transmission when meeting a hill or slope or strong head wind, engine is at 2000rpm, if I drop to 4th gear and accelerate vibration ceases. Similar but not as noticeable vibration is also present if out of overdrive when meeting a hill, again around 2000rpm. There is no evidence of clutch slip under any conditions even when trying to induce them when attempting to determine symptoms of the vibration. It's not tyres out of balance, UJ's are all tight etc. Fitted correctly, no oil leaking from crank seal, propshaft put back as was, engine/gearbox mountings sound, Rakeway solid alloy thrust bearing fitted, gearbox input shaft not hung on plate when mating etc etc. The old clutch (a 130 H/D Borg & Beck with 18000 miles since new) used to slip on uphill sections in overdrive 5th at say 50mph when more power was applied, otherwise no slipping. On removal the plate was in good condition, the clutch cover plate did show evidence of hot spots where slippage had taken place. With the additional clamping force of the new clutch cover plate +25% (according to M&D) is it possible that the plate is not slipping but the power/weight/gearing is causing the plate springs to vibrate/chatter causing the symptoms? Rakeway can provide an even stronger plate and cover from AP Racing (different company to AP), may have to go for this option, but would like to know why first! Has anyone had similar issues or can suggest what might be the cause. John
  9. I have a VSR fitted, same as Matthew and Luke, for a number of years, excellent product designed for the marine industry, very compatible with wet Land Rovers... John
  10. Odyssey, I have a pair 2250 main 2150 acessory. Massive CCA's and able to handle deep discharge, with quick recharging capability. John
  11. Glad it was you Les that recently adjusted mine! John
  12. For our pending Morocco trip I'm booked Brittany Ferries Portsmouth - Santander with a 110 up to 2.6m high - out end of March return mid April - total return fare with driver £450/vehicle plus cabin or couchette. Two vehicles going with one driver each, share a cabin for £65 each way. Then drive to Southern Spain 10 hours to Malaga. Family fly down to Malaga 3 people £200 return with Ryanair. This is a cheaper option, not having to feed and entertain enroute and avoids the "how long until we are there" questions every half an hour, let alone all the pee stops and other distractions! I doubt the difference in cost compared to driving all the way from Calais will be more than a £100 after taking account of all the extra expenditure feeding and accomodating passengers and paying tolls if pushing on. That's a £100 well spent for the peace. The numbers only work if the ferry is reasonable which they are for me in the Spring. July and August I would do the long drive and incorporate the time into the holiday as others have suggested. Mind you I would not be heading for Morocco at that time of the year. John
  13. Here's an option - http://www.motortech4x4.co.nz/prt.php PRT - Portable Rescue Tree. Don't know who sells them in the UK nowdays. John
  14. I've had one fitted for 4 years, works without fault. I do wonder given the Xbrake's holding power if the Land Rover hand brake cable will match it. Cable was new with the Xbrake, which can hold a lot more weight on a slope than the old drum brake could. Does anyone know the break limits of the cables? John
  15. Don't export it to Spain without having everything correct in the V5C, once the DVLA remove it from their register there is no way they will amend anything retrospectively and if something does not tally the Spanish will not let you register. Happende to a friend 5 years ago and still has his 110 off the road in Spain. John
  16. As Si says above but also have a tray/bucket to drop the bag into, depending if you are working from the top or the bottom. John
  17. Paul Why not make a note of this event in the forum calendar (see top left) you can also make a note of the series dates there as well. This also helps others planning events, to avoid clashing with yours & vice versa. John
  18. Why not speak to Rakeway, they are well used to coming up with solutions for unusual pairings. John
  19. twizzle the day/date of the funeral might help those thinking of attending John
  20. Last years Mac 4x4 involved one night's camping in a campsite with plenty of time to erect dismantle etc. The second night, most booked into a hotel, a few camped or snatched some sleep in their vehicles. It was all pretty tame really. Nothing hard core! For contingency you could each take a campbed and a bivvy bag. Mind you it's early March so the snow could come back! I used a rooftent and arranged for the hotel barman to fill a couple of hot water bottles Warm as toast! John
  21. It's rude to shout, especially after so many have tried to help and understand your problem. John
  22. James If your starter motor is the original supplied with the TGV it is most likely to be a Prestolite version rather than the Bosch Genuine as supplied on 200/300tdi. Prestolite starters have a poor reputation, mine is playing up and I intend to change the whole thing for a Bosch. So the LR relay may not fit! John
  23. I have upgraded recently and am selling a Toshiba Portege 3500 Tablet with Memory Map loaded. Let me know via PM if you are interested. John
