  1. mine is modified, everything listed, heated seats, heated front screen, roof lights, rear work lights, front spots, jackable sills, 2 inch lift, winch and bumper, 2nd batt, mss box in back, remap, led lights apart from headlights, different rear spare wheel carrier - you get the idea, NFU have been perfect, laurencekirk office in aberdeenshire
  2. second the jack wheel up a tiny bit, spin shaft until lines up easily. prop shaft tool and i used my impact driver recently, those nice new dewalt ones have some serious grunt and lighter than a proper full size impact wrench!
  3. if i didnt have a winch i would be buying that. i run with a second battery, and got the battery cables on winch altered a lil so dont need to open up winch to disconnect it, figured a lil more water resisitant. Also a winch cover is a good idea i reckon, keep road debris out. david does all cables etc ever needed if you ask.
  4. i have two methods set up, i have anderson sockets on each batt and keep a lead with respective sockets so i can just plug and play batt to batt. Also just set up a chunky isolator so i can link batt to batt, either for self start or give winch a real kick. both work well.
  5. sigh..... there goes the piggy bank again!! hope to be there
  6. i fancy the dewalt 18v one, so be intrested in following this topic
  7. I would go for a nice thin oil and pour in every possible hole until its totally full, food bags and zip ties to seal open holes as you go perhaps. Fill until coming out of rocker cover at top. maybe turn over by hand weekly to keep all moving,
  8. i am with nfu and winch was no problem at all, remap suspension lift etc were all fine. All through a local office.
  9. cheers for info, will get looking into these options over weekend. funny how holidays always seem to get busy...
  10. hey donald, I do want to be using stainless. I plan to look at the remaining three calipers as i reckon if one was poor rest may not be perfect. Figured better to have kits here first so we can crack on with it. Hoping to do once for a long time kind of job, then next on the list is a pressure wash underneath then a mountian of waxoil - if it ever dries up!
  11. oh dont worry there will never be anything britpart fited - thats just not happening.
  12. thats perfect for the job and my budget! just need ideas on piston and seal kits now. kind of hoping when i take other 3 apart its better news but since i am meant to be saving for tyres i bet all will need rebuilt!
  13. So recently in last week or so i noticed front driver wheel had an awful lot of brake dust on it, like huge amounts, so today i got wheel off, pads out and pumped brake pedal a bit to bring pistons out. hoping i could clean up with brake cleaner and then grease etc to make slide nice - cue some swear words!! outside set moved in and out ok, inside set took a lot to pump out a lil, then wouldnt retract! Got garage to pop in new pistons and seals in a hurry as i need car in morning. so my question is whats recommended kit for seals and pistons to rebuild the rest - can anyone point me in right direction please. Garage also used a red grease called rubberlube in rebuild before sticking in pistons, dont want to buy a huge tub of this - any ideas on other solutions or a small tin that wont break bank. i did try a google search and the amount of options was huge so looking for ways to narrow down. 2003 td5 defender csw so vented on front, solid on rear. thanks
  14. did mine with a cheap puller. soak with penetrating fluid day before. put puller on, wind up tight - tap arm few times with hammer, tap not belt! repeat slowly increasing tightness of puller half turn or so each time and it should come, took me half an hr like that. for love of god keep all body parts clear of area below it cause when mine hit floor it hit scary fast and would have hurt.
  15. check interior lights too - i went through very same stuff which was cured by all new door switches and new interior lights, little corrosion in each but took me longer to figure out interior lights... this was in a 2003 td5 so i imagine its pretty similar, damp slowly worked in and upsets stuff.
  16. thats what i do with my 03 defender, fill new filter with diesel if you have some prior to fitting then into the ignition purge cycle until it settles. easy job
  17. short of opening up the non led units and disconnecting one side at a time to see if fault goes away i am at a loss for ideas.
  18. well thats new socket fitted on landy, all packed with grease and much heatshrink etc on wiring to try and keep dry. bad news is although tester plug i have shows all working fine on landy whenever i connect to trailer and turn on stuff all the lights work as should but when hazards are on the side markers flash at same time. side markers are led and been on a year with no bother so hoping its not them. fog light unit on trailer is corroded but works, so just ordered a new led one to replace it. number plate lights on trailer are led and work fine, no flashing etc. going to wire new fog light back to junction box on trailer to rule out a peice of old wiring. any ideas for an electrical idiot?
  19. cheers western, sadly i am totally rubbish with electrics so doesnt help me too much. any guesses on sidelights mix?
  20. since been out and played with meter, next question is will it matter if i get l and r lights feed mixed? or does somebody know how to see which is which?
  21. Hi All, So following the discovery of odd not working properly lights on my trailer i opened up the towing socket on back of my 90 and found it quite corroded so as first point thats to be replaced - way i guess is not worth going further until thats known good. now its a genuine kit thats fitted and having opened up plug where it joins loom it looks fine, so a small smear of grease and all back together there and taped up to be sure. the problem comes in that i dont know what wires do what for sure as its landrover colours, what i have is below pin 1 L Green with red trace Pin 2 54g Red with yellow trace Pin 3 31 Black Pin 4 r green with white trace Pin 5 58r red with orange trace pin six i dont know as either fell out on my clumsy removal or wasnt wired Pin 7 58L red with black trace Pin 8 58b green with purple trace so i dont know about pin six, Is it safe to just use that wiring numbers with a new socket rather than buy new kit? trailer has a fog light fitted - its kinda corroded so once rest is working i will replace with a new unit. Need to do this job mon or tues so any help is greatly appreciated
  22. i got a local blacksmith to make mine years ago. very solid as in i can only carry one at a time. gets 90 about 18 inches off ground. good couple inches wider than tyres and were below £100. Much sturdier than anything i had seen on market.
  23. oooooooooooohhhh how i wish i had seen that post a lil earlier fridge - guess who placed order a lil while ago. ahh well next time. they do seem to have a fair range, and given i need engine and hyd oil also for log splitter yearly could be a happy camper. Lets see how quick delivery comes because thats a big issue up here, often couriers stop 14 miles away overnight even if thats at 2pm.
  24. So its that time again for fluid changes and sensibly i didnt keep a note of where i had bought oils from, spoke to garage who say only use shell or other high end oil but thought i could get opinion here. its oil for both transfer and main box on 2003 td5 90 csw previously used comma but garage says this is bad oil. need to order today for doing on sunday. so whats everyones thoughts please?
