  10. i did this to my defender years ago, declared with nfu and cost me very little. year or so later i chipped it and again very little. They do seem like a good company and certainly i wont be moving in next years renewal.
  11. from what i know 300's just wont tolerate boiling so doing a gasket is wasted time. Turners seem to be popular place for a new head. or find a known good 2nd hand engine for sale
  12. i know of a virtually perfect disco chassis for sale, right now its got 300tdi engine, gear box and axles on. Was in storage dry for years. been painted. just outside aberdeenshire scotland.
  13. x lites the e x eng ones are well enough done on a defender no bonnet issues, and combined with some bumper mounted spots give amazing light all areas.
  14. As somebody much wiser on wiring than me always reminds me, never good practice to see bare copper wire like that, trim end to fit connector and perhaps heat shrink to make tidy.
  15. i hate to say anything good about britpart, it hurts! however i am a lazy guy and never bother to take boilersuit off at work when getting into 90 unless really really bad so i go through waterproof seat covers at a set a year or so, and thats with washing them. for fit, washing ok and being functional the britpart ones work fine
  16. that work ok on td5? know westerns one is older but not sure what you have mo?
  17. so kit has arrived, looks nicely made. another question before i get into fitting tommorow if weather is nice, did you find a live feed under bonnet or run live all way back to battery?
  18. just ordered the boomslang kit to resolve this, will pop up thoughts on kit when it comes
  19. cheers folks yeah saw they came with instructions, know what like always nice to see if somebody else has used first. Aware the bulb wattage is issue so figured see if can protect switch a bit better. do you think the loom will be fine with the 90/130 bulbs, i have no idea how to work it out on current draw etc?
  20. Hi, Hoping for some advice here from wiring knowledgeable folks. 2003 td5 defender issue. Keep melting headlight switches, i know this is a known issue as such and its not helped by the bigger headlight bulbs i have in, 90/130 Have heard of folks putting in relays etc but i suck at electrics so need a pre made kit to lessen the chance of burning car down! did a little searching via google and found some hits related to here using the boomslang kit http://www.paddockspares.com/boomslang-performance-headlight-loom.html has anyone used one of these that can comment, how easy to fit etc would be good. Do have spots etc but they are all wired via relays so shouldnt be adding to switch woes? many thanks davie
  21. set of bfg muds ordered today, piggy bank well ruined.. get fitted pre xmas hols i reckon that be mine well worn out
  22. big hammer and the tightest fitting irwin you can beat on there, should work perfectly
  23. interior light was issue on mine, its linked to alarm system. typical defender water leak into it and corrosion
  24. having bought a new winch bumper at peterborough many years ago off an seller i wont name, i can honestly say some folks dont test bumpers at all before selling. the tray for winch was off square - a fair bit! had to have it cut and welded once home wasnt seam welded all over, and no re enforcement so when i had a tiny bump with a car last year the bumper twisted upwards and inwards and did a ton of damage to 90 so i would say if you can get square, make it solid and not insane heavy then theres a good market for them.
  25. http://www.powertoolsuk.co.uk/power-tools/cordless-power-tools-drill-drivers-combi-drills-impact-drivers-angle-grinders-impact-wrenches/cordless-impact-drivers-cordless-impact-wrenches/dewalt-dcf889m2-impact-wrench-2-18v-4ah-li-ion-batteries.html i have that one but spent a bit more and got it with 2 5ah batteries - its amazing! mate uses one daily - quarry fitter and he abuses hell out of it, great. Way better than the milwaukee i had
