  1. I hear what your saying but its the fact that its never done this before.
  2. Hi all how are we now that we are nearly at the end of the first month! Right down to it, my farther has got a R reg 300Tdi defender 90 with a factory fitted rover alarm and immobilizer. Dad never sets the alarm but is locked, all he does is unlock it put the key in the ignition turn and go, this has been the case for years. Now for the problem, recently after putting the key in the ignition and turning it a light that looks like a car with a key in it flashes (I assume this is the immobilizer light) and it wont start. The only thing to do then is push the dis-arm button on the key fob then it will go, stop it, get out and you have to do it all again. This auto arming is a real pain when it never used to do so any help would be great
  3. Also does anyone know what and where the internal differences are as I've been told that the pistons are the same for both 2.25 & 2.5 and the blocks look pretty much identical.
  4. Thanks for that, its the serial number was the bit I was after as there are no manifolds or fan on it.
  5. Hi all it's been a while but hope every one is well. Question. I have a land rover petrol engine that I have been told that it is a 2.5ltr but can not be sure of this. Does anyone know how you can tell if its not got things on it like manifolds and stuff. I dose have a spin on oil filter and a pre engaged starter motor. I was always sure it was but when I was recently given a very large genuine workshop manual that seems to suggest that early defenders could have been fitted with the 5 baring 2.25 I'm now not so sure. Any help on this, engine numbers and the like when I've found it would be good Thanks Mark R
  6. Hi, a slight of topic question but here goes. Is it possible to set an output on ether Megajolt or squirt to become active at a cirtin engine load. The reason for asking is I want this to control a set of relays to switch some of the fuel injectors off on a V8 when only light throttle or engine loads are present like cruising at speed. Any thoughts has it been done. Mark
  7. They are called hotspots if I remember correctly, but deffinatly not a thingy. These can sumtimes brake up but cant drop out as they are only half in the cylinder area the rest is pinched under the head. The bits from this could/maybe hole a liner, but I would have thort he would have spotted that when rebuilding it.
  8. Iv Just changed my swivel seals and its defantly a 14mm ringer.
  9. Watched the vid. It sounds like shes got valve blow by or the head gaskit has gone beween cylinders. Had it happen to a fergi 35 tractor (yes the four cylinder one for thows in the know).
  10. I would also check that there is no voltage at the solenoid after the key is turned off. I've seen in the past voltage leaking through the alternator, through the alt warning light and holding the solenoid open for a while. Just a thought Mark
  11. Also remember you are removing the low speed, high rev cooling from you intercooler as well.
  12. Did you have the inlet manifold skimed as well after having the heads done as the angle of dangle will have changed. This may be letting air in. Mark
  13. maybe mine at 70-80 is about right then.
  14. For some reason I already have a toothed CV in my 96 plate Defender and I'm only the second owner and I didnt fit it and I dont think the previous one (Seven Trent) did either?
  15. I should think that the front axel is quit simple to convert, its just trigger wheel type CVs; sensors and top swivel pins drilled or changed to tack the sensors. I don’t know how they did the back axel though.
  16. Ye it looks like it, no servo and no separate pump/valve unit. I like the way that LR did this as usual it goes against the common grain but I like it. The only thing that I don’t like is that if the unit fails you loose all you brake assistance.
  17. Thanks for the reply, is the vehicle yours and have you got any further. Also if this master cylinder setup is providing your brake assistance as there is no servo, how can you turn it off.
  18. Do the brakes on my 90 so that I have some. Happy new year
  19. Hi all, Happy New Year to everyone for later. In theory would it be possible to fit axils from say a RRC and the brake master cylinder/pump unit to a defender 90 and have anti lock brakes. Just an idol thinking to pass the time, it may have already been done of course. Mark
  20. Go on ebay (if I can say that) and pick up a new electronic Dizzy for about £50, pritty good.
  21. Thanks David The truck is worked hard from go to stop, having let it warm up properly first of course. The sender is screwed into the sump plug hole as I believe this is better but will take longer to react due to the volume of oil its reading. I used to work for a generator manufacture and we screwed the sender into the oil gallery on the engines and I always thought it over read; probably due to it reading block temp rather than oil. Mark
  22. First I hope every one had a good Christmas. Do any of you know what the running oil temp of a 300tdi engine is. Also what is the temp when the oil thermostat opens and what if any are the signs that its not working or stuck open. I do have an oil temp gauge in the sump and it never seems to get much over 70-80C even on a realy hot day and its working hard. Happy New Year Mark
  23. I just typed in topgear and it was the second down. Bloody good telly watchin.
