  1. Attaching the strap to the axle before would mean it probably getting caught on things. and where would you put the ends? if they're onto the bumper/body then you risk restricting the articulation.
  2. If you are keeping the current transferbox mounts you will not need to change the prop shafts
  3. It has to be asked... how would you fit them in there?!
  4. Well surely that defeats your previous point then, its the condition of the chassis, not the fact its a tow bar
  5. Errr, I'm sure Elbekko isn't refering to a standard bumper, but one with suitable recovery points. And yes a towbar is perfectly adequate for a recovery, unless its bolted to a rust chassis in which case its no good for towing either!
  6. To be fair, I wouldn't worry about the bushes.... they're designed for all the shock loadings of driving along! But, I still don't see any merit in recovering using an axle rather than a proper recovery point. Unless a vehicle doesn't have proper points.
  7. I think its LRO that has a reasonable price guide in the back of it. No idea how accurate it is though.
  8. What kind of tent were you looking at Jason? My sketches for a teardrop I want to build incorperate a sort of trailer-tent style tent. Or a Rooftent with awing round the back of the T.D. EDIT: and the above sketch, I'd move the wheel arches further back down the body, unless you're planning a very long A frame?
  9. Scott, the rear door could be the knackered spring. Pop the badge off the handle and get some WD40 in there, and have a poke about.
  10. Problem with that for Neil is his being a 200tdi with the engine snorkel on that side.
  11. Damn work and blocking youtube, means I have to wait 'til I get home
  12. Oh not to worry . How much of the car did you have to dismantle to get the box out? If you haven't sorted the breathers yet, I bought a great little manifold off ebay for mine
  13. Neil, could you take some pictures of the process while you're doing it please? Mine is also full-o-splendid and I think seized too. When I eventually sort it out I was thinking about running a second snorkel for it.
  14. Thanks for that Ralph, learn something every day
  15. Surely the best thing there would be to pull it out the other way, or winch it?!
  16. I thought the ones like that for going behind the Bedfords had a larger hitch? or am I wrong?
  17. Thanks for the offer Jon, but I have a panto set to finish building and then get the lighting set up so I won't be there
  18. The Halfords one is a lot shorter than that, and also isnt a ball end. I think I might have to invest in one! Is it an 8mm one and have you got a part number?
  19. I have the allen key bits you mention, as I have the large Halfords set. Problem comes with the fact the bolt is that close to the pipe, it doesn't fit! Tried it with tape round it, then tried this evening with dad turning it while I supported the UJ and it still wouldnt shift So pending weather/panto set build/motication I'll be cutting the downpipe for better access!
  20. Yeah, its far from the best idea just if you're making your own you might take something from the idea. Even if its to do nothing like that!
  21. Yeah it was the prop I was thinking about... knowing how fast they have to spin . wouldn't want to get your trousers caught in that!!!!
