  1. Nigel's looks like it would require a lot less fabrication - not to mention welding - than mine! Someone (Tony?) used a TD5 rear tank protector (I think) which just bolts in place and looks very similar to Nigels. On mine, the middle of the crossmember was rotten as a carrot and so I combined replacing that bit with making a winch tray. I'll see if I can find the photos! Si
  2. How about curved polycarbonate? Si
  3. I have to admit I have an uneasy feeling at the moment (nothing to do with my dinner) and am uncertain who to believe, or more importantly, who to follow. I think we need a 'truth & reconciliation' thread. It may even be worth hosting it on another forum to ensure impartiality so we, the forum(s) members can make an informed choice over where we should be next. If this (or something similar) does not become evident, there is a strong risk of us all loosing faith and going our separate ways and what is, in my opinion, a most excellent group of people, being separated. This issue means a lot to me - I value you all a great deal as friends and people whose opinion I trust. Si
  4. Calm down Fi! ;-) I can see that there could be some delicate negotiations going on to ensure our future which may not benefit from being aired in public. I have no idea what's hapening - but I don't think waiting a few more days to find out will make my head explode! It's just like Christmas really! Si
  5. Might be! I was just looking at Tony's post about the quantocks wrecking his car - and thought he might appreciate something like that! I was surprised at the cost of such items - and thought I would have a look at the actual production cost & see if I could do better! The rivet positions were just to minimise the number of extra holes you have to drill in your tub - so long as they are all accuratly the same. Si
  6. Thanks Mark - first class job! Si
  7. Is there a copyright issue with the image formerly used for the LRE sticker? One way or another - it's a bit cheeky. I'm getting a clearer idea who to flame now! Si
  8. I'd try clamping the front flexies as suggested. or try swapping the lines coming out of the master cylinder - since the front's seem to work. If this does not help, look to see which type of balencing valve you have. There is one type which bolts to the chassis and another which bolts through the drivers footwell. The latter type are prone to jamming - even when new. They operate when there is a pressure loss in either the front or rear - a shuttle moves to seal off whichever line has the lower pressure. Sometimes bleeding, particularly with an 'easybleed' is enough to cause this problem. You can un-screw the ends of the valve & poke the shuttle back to the middle to fix it. The type which bolts to the chassis is much better (it has a shuttle which moves forward by it's momentum on braking, increasing the pressure to the front). These can jam too - tapping with a hammer often fixes. Si
  9. If you get a spare couple of mins! I've measured these bits on a number of vehicles and found a small difference in some measurements. Just want a handle on the min & max across a wider range of examples. 1. Distance from rear of vehicle to start of rubber around alpine light. 2. Width of Alpine Light measued at outside of rubber at widest point. The rear tub has a row of rivets just below the capping on each side. these are about 20mm above the fold where the body bulges out. I would like to know: 3. Distance from rear of vehicle to first rivet. 4. Separation of each of the other rivets from the previous one. 5. Length of rear tub (door to rear of vehicle) Could you specify if it's a 90/110 and what body style it is. Any help will be much appreciated! Si
  10. Thanks Tony. OK, does Bigfoot have some association with LRE? Who is currently funding the old LRE Fourm? Has Trev just volenteered to run the thing? From my point of view, there is not enough info in public to decide who to support / flame. Si
  11. Could someone tell me who Trevor Cuthbert is? Is he just one of us who has stepped in to the fray - or is he associated wih LRE? I'm happy here by the way. For donations, how about setting up a paypal account and use their shopping basket code (which I believe has a donations facility) on a page linked to from a sticky thread. That would make it pretty easy to donate and I suspect would raise more long term than sending cheques to Tony (who incidentally gets my vote for Treasurer). Si
  12. Consider yourself lucky it wasn't an auto! Eh Trev? Si
  13. You don't want to be reversing the polarity of your crystals - mate! Si
  14. What about a skip truck? There was one at one of the JBS events which just lifted the 90 by the cage on to the back - like it was a skip! Very neat I thought! Otherwise, buy a trailer. Many events are 2 vehicle so take it in turns which one tows and which goes on the trailer. Last sugestion - a giant catapult? Si
  15. Do you have a part number for higher power sealed beam lights? Someone told me some RR ones were higher - but all the stockists said they were the same wattage! Last weekend made me tempted to go Halogen - driving to tony's at night through lots of pitch black little lanes. The lights on my SV are supurb - and they are halogen. I would like to keep the waterproofness though (even V8's get wet sometimes!). Si
  16. I've heard say that the climate patterns in these parts have become less granular and more chaotic. It used to be that you could predict the weather fairly accuratly for hundreds of square miles. These days, although the prediction may be accurate on average over that area, there may be more exreme weather in some localities. In other words it is more chaotic. This is my current favorite wearher prediction site / model. Good at long range forecasts and seem to get it more right than the met office. http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/HOME/? Si
  17. Geoff, Thanks for your efforts in putting it right! I presume everyone else was sent an email this morning saying that the old LRE FOrum was back on line? I had a quick look but I was the only one I knew on line (there were only five or so people) - so figured I'd wait till here was back. Si
  18. Very cool! - Well done John! Si
  19. Pressure relief valve rattling. Increase revs - valve stays open. Not seen it on power steering - but I have on other hydraulic kit. Si
  20. The picture of Jay sat in the drivers seat - him and the LR covered in mud is a classic! Most of us have felt like that! Chris - you didnt mention getting recovered? Last I heard, you 'drove everywhere' I think it was? Another batch of cool photos. Si
  21. Brilliant pix Steve! Particularly like 'the sky at night'! Si
  22. I've been reasonably impressed with other peoples Tmax & cum up winches. Certainly as good as the old X9's and the like. Probably pretty good value if you want to buy new. I'd still look out for a used husky / 8274 which should cost you less than £250 if you hunt around. Si

  24. Best Birthday party I've been too! Tony & Val, Sorry I didnt't get a chance to say goodbye - it was all chris's fault, hurrying us along to leave ;-) Thankyou very much for the weekend. Simon & I had a fab time! I engoyed teaming up with Tango - must be one of the most stress free people I've met, even when everything is going wrong! Roll on next year! TTFN Si
  25. You never know! It hasn't started yet! Si
