  1. My F250 runs about 330bhp and 570 ft lb... I'll not be going back to a LR since having all that power The axles are a heck of a lot stronger though. G
  2. LOL @ the UK ! Here's a picture from Zimbabwe. This is a fuel que There was no fuel in the country and when it came in it was in small batches. Word would get out a couple hours before that a certain fuel garage was expecting some and then the que would start...leading to something like this ! This was just before i left in about 2000. It isn't too bad now. But financially things were different back then with black market trading etc. G
  3. If you have an old one or can find an old one. Take a picture / stencil of it, my dad will be able to make you them. He did all the LR4x4 stickers some time back. Have you got a picture you could post on here to give me an idea. He's in Macclesfield so not that far from you Gordon email him and tell him you're from this forum http://www.gavinsgrafix.co.uk/
  4. I tell you what i'd like in the workshop and thats a beam crane with chain block. If i wasn't renting the place i'd have put one in by now
  5. Mick, The box only has one drive shaft coming out of it, 4 forward gear and 1 reverse. The transfer box then selects either High or Low. If you get a borg warner then it's got the viscous centre diff lock, if you go for Lt230 then you can select diff lock or not. G
  6. I've asked about high steer arms before, but didn't find anybody that had really done it to a LR hub. So we've decided to give it a go. What a pain in the bu++ !!!!!! Below is a picture showing what we're doing, but the hubs are a right pain to weld to. The person welding them up is a fully qualified tig welder and does it for a job, so i have no doubt that he is doing everything correct. I guess it'll either work Or not An idea for home made DIY clevis', not yet finished : I fly out to work tomorrow so shall have to continue when i'm back. Thoughts / Ideas G
  7. Gordon, this is not on a LR but in answer to your question it's just above my rear bumper and angled so i can just see the tow ball. Here is a dodgy phone video, you can't see the camera picture due to the glare but it is working. At about 7 or 8 seconds into the video, I take it out of reverse and you see the problem i'm having.
  8. That'd be much appreciated please Si. My original plan was as you said, have the camera switch on by taking a feed from the reverse lights. It's how i wired it today to test all my wiring. BUT The mirror, which is from a Ford F150 looks like a normal mirror - you'd be none the wiser it had a screen. This has a reverse signal feed (as well as 12v and earth for the auto dimming). When you select reverse the camera switches on as well as the screen - giving you rear view - all good so far. But when you engage forwards, for some reason the mirror keeps the camera screen 'live' for about 4 or 5 seconds. However the camera is off, so you get a fuzzy then blue block due to not having a video input. If the camera could be on that little bit longer then i'd not get this. Call me tart, i just don't want to have it looking like a bodged job As mentioned in the first post, Ford keep their camera on all the time. G P.S. reversing up to the trailer is going to be dead simple now ! Wish i'd done this with the P38. Prior to this i had a bog standard mirror with no electrics - not even dimming. Edit : What about something like this : http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2c63d28059 how do they work ? I had a look at RRC courtesy lamp relay today but it had 9 wires coming out of it, so couldn't be bothered to try work them all out
  9. Morning, I'm sure i've seen a post about this on here, but i can't find it From memory it was DaveW that wrote how to do it ? *i think* I'm putting together a reverse camera system which switches on the screen when you engage reverse. But my screen stays live for about 3 or 4 seconds after reverse is unselected. The oem recomendation system is to put the camera on ignition live so it's 'always ready'. But i don't trust my £10 ebay special to stay on all the time so wish to power it from the reverse signal. So.... What is the easiest way that i can have the reverse signal switch on a relay and then keep that relay live for say 10 seconds after the switching 12v is stopped. I'm sure there must be an interior light relay or something that i could use....hmmmm ? Thanks Gordon
  10. Liverpool is a big area. Got a postcode ? And how big is the item ?
  11. Anybody else remember the 'Gods Must Be Crazy' scene where he parks the old series to open the gate whilst leaving the woman sat in it ?
  12. I run a small master cylinder to operate my handbrake caliper. Looks pretty similar to an x-brake, but i've used a LR rear caliper and made my own disc mount by machining up an old drum. Like the above comments, my problem was the cable filling with **** and thus sticking. My truck only gets used for challenges then sits in the workshop for weeks without really moving, hence stuff siezing up. *This is not a road legal vehicle. If i drove a landrover on the road, i'd have an x-brake G
  13. Just to put a small spanner in the works. What happens if / when he find a serial number ? I've probably got 3 or 4 TF boxes either fitted or in storage. I wouldn't have the foggiest as to what their numbers were. G
  14. Thanks. I sent them a powerstroke injector today which is hopefully faulty. He seemed to understand what i was on about when on the phone. Just hope they can sort it G
  15. Evening, Just wondering if anyone on here had dealt with AP Diesels before ? Based in Surrey. I was on the phone to them today and found them very helpful just looking for opinions of others. G
  16. Just out of interest how much are you guys paying for veg at the moment ? I've not bought it since i sold my pajero a good 4 years ago ! Got myself a little golf today i wish to use it in G
  17. *How long is a piece of string ?* Is this a p38 one ? I've got a spare if you need, swap it for that transformer when i eventually get round to popping round. I'll give you a call tomorrow. G

  19. Cheers. Back's up what i thought. Next question, looking at helicoil kits they have a "special" tap that comes with them. Are they actually any different to a normal tap ? I've got a good selection of taps G
  20. Morning, I bought my winches second had and found that they had helicoils in them. I put it down to the previous owner being a bit rough handed and stripping threads, then helicoiling them. But speaking to AlanK a couple weeks ago, he said from factory they came with helicoils. What would the reason be ? For those that don't know the winch, they've got aluminium housings / end plates, and the mounting bolts screw into these. They are drilled and tapped (unlike other winches which you put a thin nut on the inside of the casing. Could it be due to them being ally ? Meaning the thread that you're constantly working on is steel and the helicoil isn't removed meaning the ally thread is not 'worked' ? G
  21. Mick, I'm still offshore for another week. So not touched the yank, but had some parts arrive from the US whilst i've been out here. I'll sort that t/f out then. I paid about £2.5k second hand for mine. Why buy new ? If it's in good condition save a few pennies. The only problem with an 18ft bed is the back of it scraping along the floor when you're driving through bumpy fields - i.e. most campsites LOL. I didn't think the bateson was any wider than mine, i'm sure it's the same. From memory BJ and Bateson both make the same width / lengths. I don't think you can get bigger (unless it's a custom job). G
  22. Mick, My BJ tilt's are spot on. I've got an AD series 16ft bed, which i initially bought for loading sports cars. It fits my landrover with normal wheels on, but not with wide boggers I then got an 18ft x 7ft wide beavertail tilt bed tri axle. My fuel economy went down compared to the above twin axle - but it is beautiful to tow ! this is good for 3.5 tonne on paper. Probably more if you looked at each axle rating. I'd not consider a non tilt. G
  23. Why not a tilt bed ? Really quick to use
  24. Mick, my trailer has an 18ft bed and another 5ft A frame. My trucks wheel base is 156in. Have you committed to the bateson? i went to their place near your work and i honestly wasn't all that impressed with their finish quality compared to Brian James. I've got 2 x BJ's if you wish to pop round to have a look what they're like. G
