pgrbff
Drove my son to school this morning and when I got home I could smell gas. Smell is oil that has leaked from the hub, but where from? Have spare caps but looks like a lot of oil.
miketomcat
Thats coming from either the rubber cap or the drive flange gasket. I have the same on our 110, I changed the cap which reduced it I now need to change the gasket. Mike
Bowie69
Plus check the axle breather is clear, otherwise as it gets hot, the oil will be forced out. But yes, teh cap and gasket need looking at, from what I can see it is most likely the cap.
pgrbff
Thank you. The cap did come off, Iàm not sure how, but I was surprised at the amount of oil. Is this diff oil?
FridgeFreezer
Yes, diff oil (EP90), it will smell of rotten eggs. The caps can split & fall off, genuine rubber ones I've been told are the best as others can degrade quite quickly.

I had fitted cheap ones in the past that were supplied in a blue packet. They were quite brittle and didn't last long before they started to leak. I replaced them with genuine ones and the difference was night and day. They are not brittle and have been on for a few years now leak free, including being taken off and on again last year when I replaced the swivels. It seems they are made from veg oil (rather than crude) these days, as are a lot of other motor components. A few years ago I had an lengthy saga with the local foxes chewing the end caps to the point they'd leak and/or fall off.
pgrbff
At this price level, I wouldn't dream of using anything other than original.

pgrbff
I have a feeling that if there was an oil seal separating diff and swivels it has been removed. Whenever I change the oil in the swivels it takes much more than it should.
Stellaghost
Definitely should be an oil seal when you get sorted you could try the one shot cv joint grease instead of oil as this assists greatly in the reduction of leaks
