Shipping ideas/recommendations

Hi all,

im looking to buy some 110 rear tub body parts from the UK and shipped to Australia. The company suppling them have been very helpful. Unfortunately the shipping quote of £3000 (and that’s before taxes, duties and fees my end) is making it unviable. I believe that was through DHL

any ideas on shipping options to reduce this crazy cost?

cheers

Have a look for sea freight forwarders.

It will not be cheap as it is volume...

But, put upright on a pallet, in a corner of a 20 / 40 ft. containers should be less than that..

DHL would likely be doing the international part of the shipping by air (they have five air cargo operations) and the tub would take up a whole pallet spot in the aircraft, hence the price.  Having it sent by sea inside a container as a sub-load (ie shared container) should be much cheaper.

We take large SUVs on double-pallets as well as other cars.  A 110 hi cap tub might push the limits for a single pallet if laid horizontally or on its side, but a 110 utility tub would fit a single spot and a hi cap would fit stood vertically in a 747 or 777 upper deck, (not likely in a 757 and probably not in an A330, which are the bulk of their fleet -they are just starting a 777 fleet out of the UK).  Big tangent…

What parts are you trying to ship?  If they aren’t enormous, I may be able to help.

You can send sea freight which is cheaper but slooow or air freight which is quick - have a look on transglobal express as an example to start weighing up prices. If it can be properly paletised on a standard size pallet life gets easier and there are lots of online pricing websites for global pallet shipping.   Also have a search for freight forwarding agents offering LCL (less than container load) and get some quotes, and have a cruise through some of the overland groups & forums on FB etc - plenty folk ship thier cars for travel or even expats sending personal effects that might be glad of using some container space to recover some costs.  I would also search for UK-Oz specialist shipping agents (a lot of agents specialise in certain routes) and see if they can arrange some space - when I was bringing containers back from Africa I'd have been happy to sell a bit of floor space.

Those panels would take up very little space and could easily be laid atop other packaging on an air cargo shipment.  I could probably bring the end panels and any small brackets across myself, but the side panels are a bit big for my suitcase!  Let me know the dimensions of the brackets and end panels and I may be able to bring them back from STN to DXB on my mid October flight and then on to one of the Australian destinations (except SYD - that’s the other fleet) when I get rostered a trip or try to convince a colleague to take them for me.

Emirates Sky Cargo ship from LHR, LGW, Manchester, BHX and GLA to SYD, PER, ADL, BNE and MEL and I would expect them to be happy to combine your load with another onto a pallet, separating them on arrival.  Might be worth an enquiry.

You could speak to Britpart. They import a lot of stuff from Aus

Return load costs

I could, but considering they couldn’t give me basic technical information regarding their Alcon brake upgrade at £2000 I doubt they would help some random punter. It’s just not worth their time unless it makes economic sense

That's because sales isn't technical. But that's common in most big parts suppliers.

How about talking to Fulcrum about their shipping of SuperPro stuff to Europe and if they have room on a return load. They use Eibach stuff and Bilstien stuff
