JeffR
Thinking go fitting an oil pressure gauge to 110 200tdi, so as title suggests, mechanical or electric, which would be best
Stellaghost
Went mechanical with mine, worked champion Regards Stephen
Snagger Posted yesterday at 03:38 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:38 AM I have a mechanical Smiths one on my Tdi 109. I am not convinced about its accuracy, though I don’t think it’s far off, but it does get a tiny amount of oil vapour inside the gauge, presumably from a tiny leak somewhere internally. The real concern is that a rupture could cause a stream of hot oil into the cab, posing a real injury risk, not just making a big mess. That can’t happen on an electrical gauge. Routing a wire is also easier than routing a capillary tube.
FridgeFreezer Posted yesterday at 08:30 AM Share Posted yesterday at 08:30 AM Depends if you like electrics or not - either will work fine all else being equal. That won't stop a 10 page internet argument about the pros and cons though
elbekko Posted yesterday at 08:51 AM Share Posted yesterday at 08:51 AM I'd go electric, as @Snagger says you're just adding more failure points on your high pressure oil side. And routing it into the cab.
Stellaghost Posted yesterday at 11:07 AM Share Posted yesterday at 11:07 AM My set up, obviously due to my aversion to electrickery Had this over the last 25yrs, used for V8, 200tdi and will also use it for 1uz. Never had any issues Regards Stephen
Anderzander
Either. If it’s as easy for you to route the line for the mechanical one as it would be to run the wires .. then just go with which ever you fancy.
fmmv
This is @JeffR asking . We don't want him to come to harm. If he goes mechanical how long before an incident involving hot oil being sqirted at his nether regions? ( or similar, you know how it goes)
